Interviewed by Radio Nostalgia recently, Francesco Gabbani talked about the Eurovision Song Contest, the musical extravaganza that will take place in Ukraine from the 9th to the 13th of May.

It’s too early to call, but at the moment the odds are in his favour and Italy is ready to take the opportunity to snatch the iconic microphone made of glass with “Occidentali’s Karma”.

After talking with Francesco about Sanremo and his new album, which he’ll release in the coming weeks, the interviewer Andrea Secci asked the Italian representative which language he will sing in at Eurovision. His answer leaves little room for doubt.

“We’re still thinking about it, so I can’t give official news. The main question is: ‘Will Gabbani sing an English version of the lyrics or will he keep it in Italian?’ At this time we are more likely to stay in Italian for one reason: if I must represent our fantastic Italian music, singing in English could show me as an apple-polisher, trying to wink to the European audience. I would be proud to bring on stage these lyrics that were born and have taken root in Italy, and so I would like to sing it in Italian. Anyway, we are still under evaluation”.

He’s listening to fans as well. After all, they are the ones who crowned him the winner of Sanremo, which has gotten him to Eurovision in the first place.

“I’m honest, I’m careful about the opinion of my fans, the people who follow me. I must say that, actually, their observations go in this direction: sing it in Italian”.

He’s gonna have to trim the song down like Il Volo and Francesca. I think his team needs to be careful not to remove any important parts that made the song already great.

Phone cover for the ”Honorary members of the selfie-addicted anonymous”.
It’s a little ironic after readings the lyrics (I’m not saying that everybody is selfie addicted just because owns a phone).

Oh, I love these t-shirts so much, the monkey illustration is super-cute. I’ve just sent to my husband the link hoping he will get the hint for a “spontaneus” gift (object of the mail: yellow, size xyz – not writing my real size here haha) If he doesn’t understand the hint I’m gonna change husband. 🙂 Guys don’t be nasty. If you rationally think about it, right now Italy’s entry is the easiest one to pictoralize and the hype about it make it easier to merchandise. Maybe in a couple of weeks we’ll have merchandising for another entry, there is… Read more »

Oh, please! They do the same thing every year, but still nobody seems so negative about it when it’s for Sweden, Russia, Australia, the UK or other fan favourites. This year, and at least for now, it’s Italy’s turn being the pre-contest favourite, even if it’s not your favourite song or your favourite nation at Eurovision, get over it. I’m pretty sure Wiwi will create stuff to support other nations too, if they send something competitive.

Italy was probably one of my top picks. But this merchandise push puts a bad taste in my mouth, that wiwibloggs is taking sides way too early. Like 30 songs and three months too early. This song is likely going to drop down my list. Sad.

I don’t know what to feel about this. Yes I do! People will find all kinds of ways to help Italy win. And media is hyping this one up! That’s for sure! This article is not very neutral.. Now I hope that.. no I’m not going to say it..

@William: doesn’t the title make it seem like wiwibloggs is campaigning for Italy?

Might not be a problem — but normally Wiwi sounds more impartial than encouraging the purchase of merchandise…
