As Eurovision 2017 draws closer, we continue to focus on Norway and Melodi Grand Prix 2017. Today we turn our attention to Jowst and their song “Grab the Moment”. Does their song make us want to grab our phones and vote for them? Read on to find out…

Jowst – “Grab the Moment”

“Grab the Moment” reviews

Chris: Genuine excitement upon the first few beats goes straight downhill. It’s not-quite-rap in to not-quite-singing, ultimately leading in to a chorus that has no impact. The tune is definitely there but it feels like this one would need a complete rewrite to get anywhere. Maybe they can sell it live, but in the studio version this doesn’t get my blood pumping. They might be trying to grab the moment, but they’re a few inches short.

Score: 4/10

Robyn: This didn’t make any impact on me in the snippet stage, but I’m really enjoying the full-length version. The middle-eight is especially strong, and offers a perfect moment of reflection before the song picks up again – which is exactly what the lyrics are about. “Grab the Moment” manages to sound modern without falling victim to production gimmicks. There’s a really good song in there.

Score: 8.5/10

Josh: It’s a shame that “Grab the Moment” nosedives at the first chorus because the first verse builds nicely. Something that sounds contemporary and modern quickly becomes dated and cheap. Jowst wants to grab the moment, but it’ll slip out of their hands pretty quickly. Disappointing.

Score: 4/10

Sami: While I enjoy listening to “Grab the Moment” from Spotify, I find it hard to see it on the Eurovision stage. I hope they come up with some original ideas for the staging, as the song isn’t really anything groundbreaking. I would enjoy watching Joakim and Aleksander for even more than the three minutes, but I think just them on the stage together might not be enough to impress the Norwegian public.

Score: 7.5/10

William: He wants to grab the moment, but Jowst slips up in the process. Riding the synth-pop wave, this is packed with electro everything — and the wholly artificial sound lacks charm and warmth. No shape, a forgettable chorus, a total lack of soul — this will be forgotten.

Score: 4.5/10

Bernardo: “Grab the Moment” builds to a presumed pop explosion that never comes. Actually, we’ve seen this so many times this national final season. It sounds 2017, but lacks a decent production behind it. I like it but after the three minutes I struggle to remember the melody.

Score: 5.5/10

Zakaria: “Grab the Moment” has potential but it really needs to be reworked before sounding interesting. It’s those kind of entries that you can’t really put your finger on. You really want to like it but there’s definitely something holding you back. Maybe the live version can elevate it?

Score: 4.5/10

Florian: The song builds up interestingly, however it doesn’t hold up to my expectations in the chorus, turning into a mediocre pop song we have heard many times before. It’s not a bad song, but nothing worth the win.

Score: 5/10

@Austrian Ari Yeah, who doesn’t love Trump? 😀
btw, I completely agree, Ammunition are my favorites too, I really hope they will be the ones chosen. They have the best song, it’s catchy, and it’s a quality rock song as well, so it will definitely stand out in a positive way. If they nail the performance, it could end up in the top 10.

I totally understand Alex. Donald is an inspiration to us all. 🙂

The only act grabbing thus year’s Eurovision ticket will hopefully be Ammunition with Wrecking Crew. Already downloaded, already digging it. A clear choice in Norway. However, so was Laila Samuels last year, in my opinion.
