Eight acts will perform in Linköping this weekend during Andra Chansen. But only four will survive their Second Chance to reach the final of Melodifestivalen 2017. If the betmakers at Sweden’s UNIBET have it right, then FO&O, Lisa Ajax, Boris René and Loreen will live to sing another day.
These odds are accurate as of 22:00 CET on Thursday 2 March. Now let’s take a look at this heat by heat…
Andra Chansen 2017: Preview
DUEL 1: FO&O VS. DE VET DU
No women allowed! Or so it goes in this heat which sees the boy band formerly known as The Fooo Conspiracy taking on YouTube stars De Vet Du.
And in this all-male showdown the bookies give the edge to FO&O, laying down odds of 1.45 for the trio to De Vet Du’s 2.55.
During the semis FO&O soared on an Eric Saade inspired spacecraft, while De Vet Du worked quick and frenetic camera angles (all the while showing off DJ HUNK’s gym-honed body). When set against each other, who do you think will shine brightest? And more importantly, who will snatch those Swedish votes?
DUEL 2: AXEL SCHYLSTRÖM VS. LISA AJAX
Call it a battle of the Idols. Lisa Ajax shot to fame after winning the series in 2014, going on to make the final of Melodifestivalen last year. As a teenager Axel Schylström survived a near fatal accident that left him with third degree burns on 70% of his body. He turned to music and placed fourth on Idol in 2015.
But there’s only room for one of them in the Melodifestivalen final. She’s serving girl-next-door-with-attitude with her mid-tempo number “I Don’t Give A”. He’s giving us danceable pop with plenty of moves with “När ingen ser”.
If the bookies have it right, then Lisa should walk this. She currently has odds of 1.40 to Axel’s 2.70.
DUEL 3: BORIS RENÉ VS. DISMISSED
He’s easily the most famous former footballer-turned-singer in Sweden. They’re an avant-garde pop-rock group who turn the stage into a runway all their own. Together they’re ready for a showdown of total opposites — solo versus group, male vs. androgynous, dance-disco vs. rock.
The bookies see 2016 finalist Boris winning over the Melfest debutants, with his odds of 1.40 to the group’s 2.70.
DUEL 4: ANTON HAGMAN VS. LOREEN
She’s a former Eurovision winner whose highly artistic performance has caused quite a stir in the Eurovision fandom, with some heralding it as a potential Eurovision winner and others screaming, “WTF?” He’s a YouTube sensation who has won over fans with his singer-songwriter number and those puppy dog eyes.
As you’d expect, the bookies don’t see this as remotely close. Loreen has odds of 1.25 — the lowest of any act in Andra Chansen — while Anton has the highest odds of anyone at 3.50.
