This year, the songstress behind the Danish selection for Eurovision hails from Down Under. The Voice of Australia winner Anja Nissen will be performing “Where I Am” at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The song is an epic pop power ballad perfectly suited to showing off Anja’s gymnastic vocal prowess. It allows her clear voice to ring through in the verses and blast through the soaring high notes throughout the bridge and final choruses.
“Where I Am” is a love song through and through. Anja is letting her lover know exactly where she stands and with whom her heart lies, even after what seems to be a very painful parting of ways. Anja isn’t afraid to letting out her emotions, as she sings “Tonight I’m gonna hold you closer than before/So you know where I am, so you know where I am”.
It’s heart-rending and desperate in its delivery – her last chance to proclaim how she feels. She’s held back before keeping her feelings hidden, but no more. She’s letting the world know now – and with a stunningly executed high note near the end of the song nonetheless.
