Halló, velkomin til Reykjavíkur! The final of Söngvakeppnin 2017 takes place this evening in Reykjavik’s Laugardalshöll arena, and gurrl, we are all kinds of excited and nervous.
Tonight we will discover which of the seven finalists will earn the chance to get Iceland back to the Eurovision final, following two successive non-qualifications. The Wiwi jury has already had its say, but this time it’s all about you.
For the past week, our readers have been voting for the act they want to see win Söngvakeppnin 2017, and the results are in. Who are your two superfinalists? And who do you think will win the whole thing?
Söngvakeppnin 2017 – Our Readers’ Two Superfinalists
With 1,682 votes cast in total, we can now reveal that Svala Björgvinsdóttir has slayed the pack, receiving 697 votes, a massive 41% of all votes cast. Y’all must be feeling like “Paper” because Svala won over twice as many votes as her closest competitor.
“Paper/Ég veit það” was also the Wiwi jury’s favourite entry for Söngvakeppnin 2017. It scored an average of 7.89/10. The electro-ballad received praise for its “sublime chorus” and “great production”, and Svala was deemed “the epitome of cool”.
And judging by Twitter’s reaction to her performance in last week’s second semi-final, it seems that it is not just the House of Wiwi who loves The Voice judge.
Iceland is more relevant than Sweden this Saturday.

In second place, with 304 votes (18% of the total), is Söngvakeppnin newcomer Aron Brink with his tropical banger “Hypnotised/Þú hefur dáleitt mig“.
Aron is the son of Sjonni Brink who tragically passed away in January 2011, just before he was due to enter Söngvakeppnin 2011 with his song “Coming Home”.
Aron’s song”Hypnotised” scored 5.97/10 with the Wiwi jury. The “bouncy summer vibes” and “carnival feel” were a real draw for many of the wiwibloggers (who are slightly tired of ballads). Perhaps some tropical sunshine is exactly what Iceland needs?
Social media too was awash with support for Aron Brink after his super fun semi-final performance on Saturday.
Team Aron Brink all the way! #12stig

With only the top two advancing to the superfinal, that means that our readers think that Aron Hannes, Hildur, Rúnar Eff, Daði Freyr Pétursson and Arnar Jónsson and Rakel Pálsdóttir will make a swift exit tonight. The battle for third place was close, but with only two superfinalists and ultimately one winner chosen by the end of tonight, close simply won’t do.

And Svala’s going to Kyiv!
Dadi or the duet for me! ‘Again’ will be beaten by Finland in the semi, so I root for Dadi. His entry is unique and fun to watch. To be honest, I like all songs in this final except for Hildur’s
I find myself bewildered by the belief everyone here has that “being uptempo” is what makes a song sound modern … really? It’s almost like “sounding uptempo” is a brand new thing never heard before ever in our lives … as if 2000s Eurovision never even existed … Come on, people. I know how disgusted everyone is with the idea that ballads exist and are invading Eurovision against your will causing a serious traumatizing effect … but rooting for something a 10 year old would go for at a school party … come on … we gotta be better than… Read more »
@#SpreadTheJoy: Honey .. joy and happiness … whatever explaination your psychiatrist gave to you … is still not a musical criteria to assess music. Be happy, have fun, but … try to remind yourself that this is about the BEST song and not what entertains you and makes your forget your depressive sad life.
So Iceland will root, for the second time in a row, for a song or act because … again … the passing of Sjonni Brink. Right … what a criteria to actually consider a certain song as the best. As if Sweden wasn’t offering their own Swedish Bieber-wannabees … do you really have to do this, Iceland? Seriously?
Aron looks like something that Iceland would eventually choose, he will go in Kyiv, bomb in the Semi and go home with the first flight the day after.
That’s a song straight from some elementary holiday celebration. C’mon kids, raise your hands up! 🙂
Svala Björgvinsdóttir and Daði Freyr Pétursson are my favorite for superfinal.
I hope Daði Freyr Pétursson win tonight. Svala have good song but I m disapointed with her performance in semi final.
Aron Brink’s song could stand out in Kiev. It’s pure perfection. It’s so up-lifting and fun. The most catchy song i’ve heard this year. I also love his stage performance! #SpreadTheJoy
I hope they will get it down-right-right tonight and choose Aron Hannes.
If Iceland is smart they won’t send Svala. She’s not gonna stand out in a semi among Belgium (winner of this semi), Azerbaijan, Poland, Finland or Cyprus. We have many dark songs.
Dadi has the most impactful entry.
There’s nothing similar to Arons, so it would be a good choice as well.
Svala’s song is perfection. I can not stop listening to it.
@Briekimchi – I wouldn’t complain about that scenario. Aron Brink’s song is SO good and Dadi emerged as a dark horse with probably the most interesting staging of all.
Svala has to win. She is perfection! #TeamSvala to Kiev, Eurovision 2017.
Here is her new video, just released some hours ago:
https://youtu.be/9CHsdrtqSqw
Here is a fresh and new Carpool Karaoke. Svala driving and singing with the great Eurovision divas, Yohanna who came second in 2009 with “Is it true” and Selma with “All out of luck” in 1999. The divas sing all of the songs together!
https://youtu.be/QDcvAdSlR7E
Svala, only option. Song is wicked, so much like Banks!
Aron Hannes with “Tonight” or nothing
Daði Vs. Aron B superfinal and we cannot lose!
Svala is another Icelandic semi-final casualty waiting to happen.
Svala’s song is outstanding, but she needs to revamp her stage performance. Both Arons put on a great show in their semi-finals and could upset Svala if she doesn’t do an excellent job tonight.
Dadi for the win!!!
Aaron Hannes has in my opinion the best song. It’s very modern and fresh and could do really well even after the contest is over. I can totally picture it playing at a beach bar in summer!
I would love to see Daði in the super final, his performance to me is by far the most unique and entertaining!
I’m rooting for one of the Arons and that’s not because my name is simlar!
