And in a nod to that French Eurovision legacy, Alma gave us life covering France Gall’s 1965 Eurovision classic “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” at Sidaction 2017 – the annual French fundraiser for HIV/AIDS charities.

Working a pink 60s-style mini, and joined by a squad of neon-wigged backing dancers, France’s Eurovision 2017 act threw it down.
She sparkled during her note-perfect performance, working her microphone stand for all it was worth, showing off cute kooky dance moves and giving one of her lucky backing dancers the honour of kissing her hand. Ooh la la, Paris is burning, y’all!
Alma continues promo for “Requiem”
As well as supporting AIDS charities, Alma took the opportunity to continue her domestic promo trail for Eurovision, giving another performance of “Requiem“.

The chic chanteuse took centre stage in an LBD and took us to the moon and back. All focus was on quality of song and quality of voice here. Unlike the Eurovision version of “Requiem”, homegirl kept it real for her home audience and performed straight through in French.
Amir serves up Sinatra
Alma wasn’t the only French Eurovision star on stage at the Moulin Rouge for Sidaction either. Eurovision’s Next Top Male Model 2016 finalist Amir served Sinatra realness in a tux, performing classic “New York, New York.”

The “J’ai Cherché” star jazzed things up, with a legion of sparkling backing dancers. But all eyes remained on him, proving he’s a true showman.
What is Sidaction?
Sidaction 2017 was filmed at the Moulin Rouge on March 20 and broadcast on France 2 on March 25. Sidaction has been held since 1994 to raise awareness and collect funds for HIV/AIDS. Donations are allocated to organisations in France and around the world.

@Charli Cheer Up : You have bad informations about ESC in France. Last year the Grand final of the ESC beat the final of The Voice France in term of viewers. The semi-finals of the ESC are broadcasted on France 4 channel and the Grand final on France 2 channel since 2015, which is one of the biggest channel in the country (before it was on France 3, a smaller channel).
@Aria: The key seems to have been lowered for the live performance, although the tempo seems near enough the same to me. If it is a tiny bit slower, my assumption is that it was done because there’s not enough time for Alma to breathe properly in between the phrases. (Either that or the transmission was slowed down when it was converted to YouTube for uploading.) Yes she had lots of joy singing poupée de cire, poupée de son de France Gall ! For Requiem it’s just the French version for us for her album, she’ll sing the Eurovision version in may! The two-semis are broadcasted on France 4 and The Final on France 2. Since Amir’s good place last year yes some have regained interest, it’s almost a miracle ! Black horse for sure. Alma is more possible to beat Italy than Belgium,Bulgaria, etc…And her’s Eurovision version is much better than Italy’s. If Francesco sings at first half and Alma at the second half, we might see ESC 2018 in Paris.

She is without a doubt much better at singing “Requiem” entirely in French. I don’t usually care so much, but this year I would prefer the song without the English bits. Also I agree that the spectacle of the dancers defying gravity will somehow need to be replicated at ESC, otherwise what was the point of introducing that visual cue in the first place.

In my humble opinion, focus on stage should be only on her (like Amir last year)..
in France we bet a lot on sports contests, on horses race, but we don t have the philopsophy and the reflex to bet on ESC…I don t know why, and I don t know why Amir was too good place last year in odds, because this year I feel and I see a biggest interest and commitment for the ESC…..

I don’t think this is possible, France will sing in second semi, outside competition, and France can vote in that semi.

Even though the song is great, I think France’s chances of doing well mainly depend on the visuals. If they are able to create something close to the preview video, they can go high.
I am not really convinced by the above visuals, I hope the Kiev choreography will be much more classy and “tango in Paris”-like. In fact, I think it would have even looked better without any dancers at all.
