They’re two countries that haven’t always got in in terms of Eurovision. But with OGAE Armenia revealing their votes for the OGAE Poll 2017, they have surprisingly given four points to their eastern neighbour, Azerbaijan. It seems that Dihaj’s “Skeletons” know no borders!

Also revealing their votes was OGAE Slovakia. Like a lot of other counties, their 12 points went to Italy, with Francesco Gabbani continuing to rack up the points. But Slovakia gave their ten points to Bulgaria. It’s the highest score that Kristian Kostov has received so far in the OGAE Poll 2017. Slovakia was also generous to Norway, giving JOWST five points and putting them on the scoreboard.

OGAE Armenia gave their 12 points to France‘s Alma, and only gave frontrunner Italy seven points. They gave Portugal its highest individual score so far with six points, they continued the love for Norway with two points, and they put Georgia on the scoreboard with one point.

The big surprise came with Armenia giving Azerbaijan four points, doubling its overall score. The two countries have typically avoided each other at Eurovision, with political tensions overcoming any appreciation of the other’s music.

But it seems that Dihaj’s electro pop banger “Skeletons” has brought its boney goodness over to its neighbours and made an impact. The question remains — will OGAE Azerbaijan return the favourite to Armenia’s electro pop track when their votes are revealed later?

This article smells peace, love it. It is irrelevant to this article , sorry in advance ,but i need to get some advices from Armenian fans. Next month my girlfriend and I will be travelling to Tbilisi for vacation. We wanted to see Erivan as well-and staying one night in Vanadzor. As we are Turks I wanna know if those cities are safe and do we confront any problems passing through customs?

Armenia, Montenegro, Georgia, really? Last year those countries were great, I still listen to Iveta and the Young Georgian Lolitaz, they were amazing. But this year those countries sucks. Only 1 point for UK? Where the hell are any points for Latvia, Poland, Netherlands or even Ireland, Spain and Serbia? Are you telling me this is better?

I miss Turkey in the contest really after seing all the countries which never votes for their “enemies” Turkey was really polite and modern. In 2005 Turkey gave 12 points to Greece in 2007 Turkey gave 12 points to Armenia. Turkey gave Armenia every year the highest points ( funny fact is that Armenia was more successful in ESC when Turkey was participating, after Turkey left the contest Armenia also lost their amazing always being on Top 10 positions”.) Miss Turkey really in the contest.

Actually, ever since the introduction of the jury vote, Turkish juries gave Armenia 0 points every single year. And, Armenia went through a dark phase from 2011-2013, but that has hardly anything to do with Turkey being in or out of the contest. They came back strong in 2014 and have continued to be a strong presence.

Armenia giving points to Azerbaijan is commendable. It definitely is also a statement directed to Ukraine and Russia, who could not find at least a temporary resolution of their differences in the name of music. What I am interested to see is if this will also translate in real votes–from Armenian jury or public to Azarbaijan… if it does not, it really is a meaningful gesture–more like teasing than a genuine attempt to bury the machette.

Well, Azerbaijan is the one who’s land is stolen. So it would not be surprising that Armenia plays the peaceful card at this stage. But still it’s brave of them giving the fact that Azerbaijan is always last with both televoting and juries in real contest.

I wonder if you read the Kars and Moscow agreements of 1921. If you read, you will see how Bolsheviks gave Karabagh and Nakhijevan to Azerbaijan, as well as many other Armenian territories to Turkey. And it happened less than a century ago. Why did Turkey and Azerbaijan got scared when last year Russia declared it may not prolong the agreement? Remember that every 50 years this agreement is subject to prolongation.

Being a fan of the ESC since 2000, i could say that i know euroVISION even better than myself. I capslocked vision, because a huge part of the final positions will be influenced by the staging of the songs. So i could certainly claim that this poll is an absolute garbage at predicting the final results. As with every year some of the OGAE top 10 do not even make it to the finals. One of them, according to my opinion, is Israel. Furthermore, like it happened many times in the past, songs with 0 points in the OGAE poll… Read more »

Armenia seems to be more open-minded than Azerbaijan. Even after having its soldiers captivated by Azerbaijani special forces, it has voted in Azerbaijan’s favour. They also gave 1 point to Azerbaijan and 4 points to Turkey in ESC 2009.

Well done, Armenia. I really admire you. Hope, Azerbaijan will do the same and not ask people in for questioning for voting for Armenia instead, as its investigative services did in 2009.

But what’s the reason Armenia always votes for France?

France have a huge Armenian diaspora, and so have given Armenia lots of points throughout the years. With the increased quality of French entries recently, maybe Armenia feels the need to repay the favour?

To be fair, Turkey was a lot less political about ESC in relation to Armenia than Azerbaijan is today. History aside, Turkey and Armenia aren’t actively feuding, whereas there is genuine unrest between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding Norgano-Karabakh that persists today. They’ve called a ceasefire rather than an official peace. It why Armenia didn’t do ESC 2012.

Anyway, for me Artsvik is 10 times better, has a more original composition than Iveta.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia have great entries this year. If their juries are being fair and objective then they shouldn’t give each other last place every year. I think one Armenian juror put Azerbaijan 19th out of 25 last year, even that was progress! I lnow there is a complicated history there, with right and wrong on both sides, but it would be nice of they could overlook politics for the sake of a song contest. =/

That’s actually not true. Armenia gave points to Azerbaijan in 2008 (in the semi-final 2 points) and in the final of 2009 (1 point). It’s Azerbaijan who makes a big fuss about voting for the Armenian entries. Azerbaijan has absolutely politicized this contest and yet for whatever reason, people always keep saying Armenia and Azerbaijan should withdraw until their conflict is resolved. NO, Azerbaijan should either get it together or withdraw.
