Italy, Francesco Gabbani, 3

Ten countries are still to reveal their votes in the OGAE Poll 2017, but the point of no return has been reached. With the points revealed from OGAE Serbia, it is now no longer possible for any other country to beat Italy’s current total of 383 points. This means that Francesco Gabbani‘s song “Occidentali’s karma” is the winner of the OGAE poll 2017!

OGAE Serbia was next to reveal their votes. It was business as usual, with the top votes going to fan favourites — 12 points to Italy, ten points to Sweden and eight points to France. Serbia also had five points for Hungary.

On the overall scoreboard, Italy now has a total of 383 points. This puts it well ahead of Belgium, in second place with 264 points. With only 10 clubs left to vote, this means it’s now impossible for Belgium — or any other country — to earn enough points to overtake Italy in first place.

But the rest of the positions are still unconfirmed. Sweden is still closely following in third place with 253 points and could easily slip into second place. France is in fourth place with 213 points and Estonia still rounds out the top five on 175 points.

The OGAE Poll

The OGAE poll has been running since 2007 and is based on voting from the member groups of the Eurovision fan organisation OGAE — Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l’Eurovision.

Sometimes the winner of the OGAE poll goes on to win Eurovision. Previous winners have included “Molitva”, “Fairytale”, “Euphoria” and “Only Teardrops”.

But in other years, the big OGAE winner has less success at Eurovision. In 2014 “Undo” was the winner, the following year “Grande amore”, and last year OGAE favoured “J’ai cherché”.

Srsly??? I can’t stop laughing….
When Italy sent Il Volo to ESC with a great song they didn’t win
and now you tell me that this will win?
Music industries are falling so low every year….
Over the years we’ve seen other countries on polls being 1st
and at the end they were in last spots.
Don’t have high hopes …
and w8 for all the countries to represent their songs on the stage.

I want Albania,Azerbaijan, Bulgaria,Hungary or Switzerland to win for a change and their songs are so much better than Italy! Italy is the worse song this year! 🙂

Interesting. Two of my top 10 (as of my 2nd evaluation)didn’t make the OGAE top 10: Hungary (12th) and Norway (15th). Belgium (my #12) and Israel (my #21) made the OGAE top 10.

As for those who have yet to receive a single point, I can see only 2 countries capable of defying the OGAE outcome: Malta and Moldova. Will they finish anywhere near Latvia’s final outcome in 2015? Not likely. On my scorecard, I have Claudia and Sunstroke riding the razor’s edge in qualifying.

A lot of people say it won’t win but don’t say what can beat it. It’s not my favourite song but at the same time, realistically, nothing I prefer is going to get enough points.

France didn’t win the OGAE poll in 2011.
Instead, it’s more likely going to be like Denmark 2013: early favourite, top of the odds from February to May, OGAE winner and, eventually, ESC winner too.

Well, I guess we have to admit Italy is going to win. I feel like OGAE predict the winner if the predicted second is behind. Loreen was favourite, Alexander Rybak was favourite… in 2015 it wasn’t clear Måns would win and Il Volo was fan favourite.
You can see where this is going.

I only hope Italy has a curse on them when being fan favourite. #BlancheFTW

“Italy now has a total of 383 points […] ahead of Belgium, in second place with 264 points. With only 10 clubs left to vote, this means it’s now impossible for Belgium to earn enough points to overtake Italy in first place.”

Wait – wouldn’t it be possible if Belgium got 10 x 12 points and Italy nothing from all the remaining clubs? Belgium would then have 384 points.
Or am I wrong? (I know this is more than unlikely, but still…)

Racal

You’re almost right, but OGAE Belgium still has to vote so they can’t give their 12 to Belgium. That means Belgium will have 0 from at least that club and can’t catch up.

Public is always right? OMG You can not achieve the nonsense you are saying! Not even with an example. In music, if it were for the public, then, for the majorities, classical music was dead, jazz was annihilated, not to mention groups and singers that did not please the masses. Do you want more examples until you understand?

This is a popular contest so public has their saying 🙂

Last year, I didn’t like Russia at all.. but it was the majority’s choice, so it’s fair.

Eurovision is not about personal taste XD
Winners are voted by every country so it’s fair 🙂
This is how it works cause again it’s a popular event 🙂

I believe we need the jury and the televoting, 50/50. However, the jury needs to be better structured. There should be more people in the jury panel (with random ages, music styles, composers, singers, journalists…).
Also, they should have in their hands a translation of each competing song, to give a fair opportunity to all songs.
…And for God’s sake stop overrating Sweden and Australia.

Maybe he win televote, but I don t think that he will be in TOP 3 with juries. And we saw that Gabbani in begining of San Remo was on 4 th place in first night when he present the song to audience, than we was to time on 3 rd place and only in fnal we won televote in both round of voting. Many people watch only Eurovison final and heard and see the song for the first time.

It was a big surprise to see him winning, since this type of song is, usually, neglected by the juries in San Remo. The fact that the juries didn’t ranked him low reflects the quality of his song.

The full package!! Occidentali’s Karma is the best song to come out of Eurovision in decades. Much, much better than Euphoria with a more charismatic singer. The only thing lacking is Francesco’s command of English in interviews. 110 million views on Youtube before the contest and climbing. Great marketing — releasing his new album on Apr. 28th.

Obviously a deserved landslide victory for Italy (in OGAE). I really hope that reflects the actual results in Kiev, but who knows. The chance is, the winner is among the highest ranked 10 songs here, but even that is debatable. OGAE is actually a really small population compared to all the people who will vote in few weeks.
