moldova backstage sunstroke project first rehearsal

Their national final staging was crazy and outré, and a reminder that Moldova can do over-the-top better than most. And during their first rehearsal on Monday SunStroke Project once again brought their endearing antics and slick choreography, which translates very well to the bigger stage here in Kyiv.

Much of their performance will look familiar — including the easy-but-effective dance moves and Epic Sax Guy’s frenzied thrusts. But their LED takes this to another level with quickly moving blocks in black and white. At various points the LED features an infinite row of Epic Sax Guy illusions. The female backing dancers have traded in their wedding gowns for party clothes and at one point they move to the front of the stage to dance with their guys — accompanied by LED dancers. It creates a proper party atmosphere, transforming the stage into Kyiv’s hottest discotheque.

Ahead of today’s rehearsal we worried how the juries might react to this. But this is such a fresh blast of fun — and one that looks somehow expensive now — so the professionals are likely to show this some love, too. We already know that Europe will be tapping its feet and cutting up their wedding dresses for a wild night. Let’s do this!

They should qualify with this. It stands out a lot. Expertly staged and performed, it must be said.

I love this guys. The song is pure fun and very creative. I love the sax, the “Mamma, mamma” subject, the fresh sound. I hope they will qualify with some deserved support from the televote. I wish they could finish top 15–they deserve it, but of course, this is Eurovision and tough competition and politics work against them.

Moldvoa has been in my Top 3 all year. Fun, radio friendly, and a strong stage show. That foot tapping move, something about it is distinct and sets them apart. I have my fingers crossed for them to go through! They deserve it.

No joke here, this is pure fun! They nailed it 🙂 I’m always getting quickly annoyed by usual over-the-top stagings, with people screaming their guts out singing about the biggest issues in the world, while showing legs on high heels… Yes, very coherent… Never complain about simple amusement, people… We need more and more of this, not to take us too seriously, esc won’t change the world, it’s just a nice business, let’s stick to entertainment and music. It’s already too much of a political thing… Fantastic Moldova, they’ll make the arena move along. Hope they”ll be rewarded from audience… Read more »

what the hell is that? i want to kill myself now.
romanian language is the official language in moldova republic.
sunstroke project speak no romanian, but russian.
they also speak good english, but at the press conference they want to speak russian and they have a translator that speak english worst than them.
those are worse than yulia samoylova.
why? i know why.
they like putin and his slave dodon (now, the new president of moldova)

Members of SunStroke Project are from Tiraspol, Transnistria, plus their names and surnames suggest Russian and/or Ukrainian heritage. Russian is most likely their native language. So even if they spoke it, what’s wrong with that?

You know nothing about Ukraine, do you? Russian is the language of first use for half of Ukraine, if not more. It is still widely spoken regardless of the conflict. Your suggestion that Ukrainians would be triggered over it is simply ridiculous.

i know about ukraine but is always strange when somebody brings useless translator.
like it was when moldova pretended their language is not romanian but moldovian, and they pretended they need translator, when is the same language.
if you want useless translator, it means you want to make a point, to send a message.

I thought that Moldova wouldn’t make it to the final, but that clip changed my mind. it looks entertaining, but not stupid. Looking forward to the live performance.

These guys bring good show that’s for sure, but I’m not sure if it is enough to qualify..

I don’t know have anyone can like this.

Both the song and music video are pretty underproduced. The staging isn’t any better, a couple of comic book effects in the background. It’s also relying too much on the hype of the epic sax guy.

I am hopeful that people won’t be jokingly voting for this and it stays in the semi final where it belongs :/

It is one of my 3 favorite songs this year but this semifinal is so difficult… I really hope this is going through the final! I’m glad you guys in the video think these things about the staging and the song! I can’t wait to watch the performance!

Was one of my favourite song this year. The song can be performed with or without choreography. I’m more worried about how the vocals and the beats will translate at the stage. From the clip, it doesn’t look promising.

I absolutely want Moldova back in the final with this song, and it seems like their staging is on fleek! Come thru!

This song is a classic piece of party fun and there should be a place for material like this in a final …..to break up the ballad monotony….

Ughh. I really didn’t want this one to go well; (it’s one of my least favourite songs), but it seems that Moldova have gotten the choreography absolutely right. Typical.
