Day three of rehearsals has come and gone. We saw Nathan Trent from Austria walking on the moon. We witnessed Romania’s Alex Florea falling off (what we hope is) a confetti cannon. And we looked on as Irishman Brendan Murray floated through his song on a hot air balloon. We asked our readers to pick their favourite rehearsals from Tuesday’s lineup and only one could triumph. After counting 9,246 votes, we can now reveal that our readers think Dutch girl-group OG3NE came out on top with their song “Lights and Shadows”.

Our team of wiwibloggers in Kyiv agreed that it was an impressive rehearsal. The three sisters of OG3NE — Lisa, Amy and Shelley Vol — worked the stage with confidence and poise well beyond their years, owing to the immense stadiums they’ve already played and knowing those tight harmonies through and through. And man did those harmonies shine! Each note was sung perfectly, and it paid off with a slick performance deserving of a grand final berth.

The staging is simple and classy. Their chicly dressed outlines sparkle under blankets of black, blue and golden lights from above as well as the the LED wall behind.

The inspiration behind the song and its refined staging is being attributed to the sisters’ mother who has been battling cancer for the past several years. The song itself evokes a picture of hope and inspires the strength needed to overcome life’s worst obstacles. OG3NE’s tightly bound harmonies and meaningful staging reinforce this important message.

OG3NE took the top spot in our poll with 32.77% of the vote. In second place with 18.66% of the vote was Ireland’s Brendan Murphy and his pop ballad “Dying to Try”. Romania’s Alex & Ilinca stomped the competition and partied through their feel-good song “Yodel It!” to 10.30% of the vote, earning our readers’ third place finish.

Poll results: Who had the best first rehearsal of May 2?

  1. The Netherlands: O’G3NE, “Lights and Shadows” 32.77% (3030 votes)
  2. Ireland: Brendan Murray, “Dying to Try” 18.66% (1725 votes)
  3. Romania: Ilinca & Alex Florea, “Yodel It!” 10.30% (952 votes)
  4. Austria: Nathan Trent, “Running On Air” 8.99% (831 votes)
  5. Malta: Claudia Faniello, “Breathlessly” 8.68% (803 votes)
  6. Denmark: Anja Nissen, “Where I Am” 6.61% (611 votes)
  7. Hungary: Joci Papai, “Origo” 5.89% (545 votes)
  8. FYR Macedonia: Jana Burceska, “Dance Alone” 5.42% (501 votes)
  9. Serbia: Tijana Bogicevic, “In Too Deep” 2.68% (248 votes)

What do you think? Did O’G3NE deliver the best first rehearsal? Let us know below!

The Netherlands….like time travel…back….Unoriginal song and boring performance. Soooooo old fashioned!!!!
‘Eurovision’ should be renamed……’International Copy Vision’.
Original songs and performers are not welcome!

Netherlands will qualify: the juries in particular will love it, its not as strong as 2014 but it should qualify on the strength of the harmonies.

Well. The chances for the sisters have grown this week. But still not sure if they will qualify. If they get their story told in a good way they will get to the final. And if that happens OG3NE will land between 15th – 20th place. Best voices for sure, but a boring, old fashioned production.

Well, Conchita also sung a boring old fashioned production back in 2014….

Conchita had a damn good song, while this song is common, boring, flat… No potential big hit or winner, that was the difference. Conchita’s song reminded of the famous James Bond themes, while OG3NE reminds of Wilson Phillips – “Hold On”, but on a bad day of them…

The Netherlands has low chances to qualify…. I’d rather see: Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Denmark, Belarus, Israel, Estonia, Hungary, Norway and Switzerland.

I see small chances of qualification for: Serbia, Ireland, The Netherlands, Macedonia, Malta, San Marino, Croatia and Lithuania.

Just because there are countries that you would like more to qualify, doesn’t mean that our chances are small. X

The first two are not justified and won’t even qualify (especially Ireland). I have a big question mark concerning The Netherlands, too…

Well, Og3ne does have the most YouTube views for their rehearsal by a long mile, so people wanna see them…
They currently are at 270k – with Greece coming in 2nd at 174k and Poland in 3rd with 162k.

Netherlands will qualify for sure and they will end up in top 3 in this semifinal.
They will be THE big surpise of semifinal 2 and i even predict a top 10 in the grand final.

Croatia 2000…remember? Also a 3 girls group (Femminem) with a great song (ever better than Og3ne, which I find it flat and boring… although they;re singing well, but the song counts, too)….but failed to qualify. And remember, Femminem were a fan favourite in 2010 and yet… So don’t count on the press poll or the betting odds.

You mean Feminnem – “Lako je sve” (Croatia 2010), not 2000. And yes, they failed to qualify although they were a fan favorite and bookies darling that year. Everything’s possible, every year a surprise song sneaks into the final while some favorite songs don’t pass the semifinal….

Results from the past are not a guarantee for the future, so Og3ne will be the first Girlgroup to break that curse. And by the way don’t compare them with “Femminem” because Og3ne is from a very different level.
I understand you don’t want them to qualify because they may be steal a spot in the final from your favorite (own) country, but they will qualify honey, they will…

song contests now are more at the whole package, and the backdrop is important i think

for me best stagings so far are from Georgia, Latvia, Romania and Portugal, which really suit the song the most
