It’s been just three days since we last checked the odds, but things have shifted quite dramatically in the Eurovison 2017 odds. We not only have a different top ten, we also have have a different top three. The Eurovision bookmakers have been busy taking bets and keeping the fans guessing.

Since our last update on 2 May, Sweden has drifted ever so slightly, falling in fourth place. Portugal is now sitting pretty in third position, despite Salvador Sobral not yet being present in Kyiv for the rehearsals. Italy and Bulgaria still lead, with the first still boasting very comfortable odds to win next Saturday despite not having rehearsed yet.

The biggest shake comes from Romania, who, following a well-received first rehearsal, has jumped four places to the sixth position. The yodel/rap duo Ilinca feat. Alex Florea must be doing something right — it is the first time since 2006 when Romania has been so high in the odds to win Eurovision. Obviously, they are expected to “Yodel It!” to the grand final without problem.

Romania passed Belgium, now in tenth place, and Australia, who has fallen five positions to 11th place, despite very decent first and second rehearsals.

Another significant climber is Finland. Norma John‘s “Blackbird” has finally hopped into the top ten and is now singing happily in eighth place — further consolidating Finland’s chances of advancing from the first semi-final. Speaking of the first semi, Azerbaijan also jumped two places to the seventh spot in the top ten.

Despite not having rehearsed yet, France has climbed one place to the ninth position. Greece, who had been edging the top ten, has now fallen four spots to 15th.

I think Romania, Armenia or Belarus will win in Eurovision 2017. Portugal is so boring and oldfashioned. I hope Salvador won`t win because next year will be inspired his performance.

Yes really! – and our singer is an indigenous Australian. Given that on in four of Australians was born overseas, we continue to have close ties with Europe. And we are loyal Eurovision watchers, nearly won it last year and we write damn good music!

Dont care about the odds, I would be interesting to see who bets and for whom. Anyone supporting Romania has (and dont mean to be rude, sorry) NO music taste, despite the good staging.

I find it very hard to believe that Romania and Finland will make the top 10.

France & Belgium may be top 10, but they are far from certainties. Further, I’m not even sure Belgium will make the final.

I also find it hard to believe Portugal will be in the top 3, although a top 10 finish is still possible.

I still think Greece is being under estimated.

When we get the results of the OGAE poll or of the Wiwi jury, everyone gets mad and goes digging their results from 5 years ago to point out how wrong they were. And yet when the betting odds come, it seems that no one minds that they are almost always wrong too! I guess people just like to read what they like and filter out the rest… 😉

I wouldn’t say the betting odds are “almost always” wrong. Very often people look at the betting odds too early. You can’t accurately predict who will do well based on the studio versions of the song. Rather, people need to wait until after ALL the acts (or almost all the acts) have had a live run-through during a rehearsal on the Eurovision stage. Thus, nobody should really take the odds seriously until AFTER all the semi-finals. Also, the odds may not get everything right, but about 7 of the 10 songs they have ranked in the top 10 will actually… Read more »

Not wrong, but the exact same can be said for the OGAE polls (they got seven out of the last ten winners in their top 5), and yet in all OGAE articles people were bashing it, comparing the full Eurovision rankings with the OGAE ranking for the past ten years, etc. But the odds? Oh no, everyone is sipping on them like milk. 😉

Ern

Reply to  Racal

To be fair, the odds are a bit more accurate than OGAE. Much of that has to do with the fact that OGAE votes BEFORE the dress rehearsals, thus they never get to see the song actually performed live. By contrast, the odds are constantly changing. They even change DURING the actual contest, as they did the year Conchita won. Going into the final, Sweden was expected to win. But during the show, Conchita suddenly was elevated to having the best odds of winning. Still, there are surprises. Last year was a total surprise, since it was Russia that was… Read more »

I disagree that it is boring and dated – Eurovision has its peaks and falls, granted, I know last year was a peak year for good songs for example, as was 2009. But there are always good songs in the competition every year, and half the fun is picking out your favourites. Besides, it’s only a one night event in the end for most viewers, so why not let people continue to enjoy the fun. Eurovision is a huge thing for many people and I know there are plenty of people who want to see it continue to grow and… Read more »

Yes, fun is fun but even fun can be to much sometimes. A contest that’s only “fun” soon loses steam, that’s what happened last decade. It’s not much to build on.
A perfect ESC should have a mix of fun and serious. Both dance hits as well as slow ballads.
That’s a ESC.

May be off topic, but do we see a pattern here? Seems that Romania does well with duos male/female.
The duo reminds me of Paula and Ovi (2010) and the staging reminds me of
Romania 2005.
…..I like Croatia so much…..
If Italy will win, it will be because melody and stage presence. Give me a break about lyrics. I know the lyrics and if Italy wants to win, it should hide those stupid/offensive/arrogant lyrics. And they hide them under italian language. Let them that way, don’t speak again about lyrics.

I agree that Denmark is way too high… not (only) based on my personal opinion, but on Observation. The song is not very popular in polls or reviews, it has not even charted in Denmark… I don’t really see why so many people put down money for this to push it up in betting odds.

Polegend Godgarina

The gap between Italy and Bulgaria is abysmal, it’ll be a scandal if Italy doesn’t win. Portugal is about to overtake Bulgaria also, talent is prevailing! Odds below 20/1 don’t mean anything anyway, so I guess it’s between 4 countries this year.

Ridiculously overvalued entry. A tip from a professional bettor: there’s no value in betting Italy with those odds. Personally I wouldn’t place a bet on Italy if it was 20/1. I just can’t see it winning. The perceived “hype” (more local than global) won’t carry into final and there’s 4 underdogs with huge odds that are capable of taking Italy’s throne. The only value bets: Hungary, Finland, Armenia, Portugal.

Adam

how is the hype with Italy local? It doesn’t have 100,000,000+ views on youtube, or win OGAE voting all thanks to 60~ million Italians.

There’s a reason it has hype: people actually like it, it’s a good song that makes people happy and feel good. His energy is infectious. People can hate or whatever but they should just stop pretending they don’t know why MANY people like Italy this year.
