Romania’s Ilinca & Alex mixed Alpine yodelling with inspirational hip-hop. Bulgaria’s Kristian Kostov sang amid a monochrome dreamscape. And The Netherlands’ OG3NE served Wilson Phillips realness with their pitch-perfect harmonies. And in the end of Semi-Final 2 all three of them qualified for the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. They’ll be joined by seven other finalists from: Belarus, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Israel, Norway and Austria.

  • Belgium
  • Belarus
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia

This may be late, because I stayed up all night watching the recorded broadcast (I was at work during the live broadcast); but here is how I scored the 2nd semifinal: 9.58 Hungary (Joci Pápai: “Origo”)+ 9.53 Romania (Ilinca Bacila and Alex Florea: “Yodel It!”)+ 9.51 Bulgaria (Kristian Kostov: “Beautiful Mess”)+ 9.50 Denmark (Anja Nissen: “Where I Am”)+ 9.44 Estonia (Koit Toome and Laura Põldvere: “Verona”) 9.43 Netherlands (O’G3NE: “Lights And Shadows”)+ 9.41 Austria (Nathan Trent: “Walking On Air”)+ 9.36 Norway (JOWST and Aleksander Walmann: “Grab The Moment”)+ 9.35 Israel (Imri Ziv: “I Feel Alive”)+ 9.34 Malta (Claudia Faniello: “Breathlessly”)… Read more »

A much better semi-final than the first one. Firstly, everybody sang their song well, we didn’t have poor vocals, like 2-3 acts from the first one. Than, much more staging for lots of entries. Biggest winners of this semi-final: Austria (impressive interpretation and charisma from that guy), Romania (maybe the greatest show from this semi-final and the most energy), Hungary (so emotional and strong interpretation), Ireland (the guy did all he could with the song, but the song itself didn’t have enough power) and Croatia (no words, simply impressive). Bulrgaria, Belarus, Norway… exactly the acts we’ve expected, no plus on… Read more »

9/10 but pretty big mistake about Croatia and Ireland :)) Let’s be honest, Ireland had no chance in the beginning. The live interpretation got a bug plus, but it would have still been a surprise to go through. While Croatia was a certain favourite to qualify from start, such an unique moment can’t go unoticed, I think it was top 3 in televoting, if not even the winner. I have to admit, I didn’t think that Estonia wouldn’t go through, I thought it can win the semi-final :))

And so they`ve killed our Verona. Ukrainians did it with their technical blunder. Koit did it with probably the weakest performance and biggest smile of his life. Koit`s girlfriend did it with the awful make-up for both of them but Laura seriously suffered. It hurts me as a fan to say it but they`ve ruined their performance themselves. Their song is still beautiful. The main reason of their elimination was a very unclucky draw. Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Sweden and Russia, who usually give Estonia decent points were all missing and that meant doom for the Estonian entry.

Whoa! Estonia needed THAT many countries to get through? I always knew they needed Finland real bad, just as Finland needed Estonia real bad. That being the case, this makes it back-to-back years that Estonia has sent fairly-decent (and qualification-worthy) songs, only to come up on the short end, 3 of the last 4. Finland is another story. Norma John’s “Blackbird” was definitely worthy of qualifying, while Sandhja’s “Sing It Away” was dead on arrival. This makes it 3 years in a row (a hard-rock trainwreck, a retro-R&B clunker and a chamber-pop dark ballad) that Finland has failed to qualify.… Read more »

For everyone surprised/outraged by the elimiation of Estonia: On a hear-to-heart level, I am sorry, as I know how bad it felt when Finland was eliminated. On a level-headed level, I am not as surprised and definitely not outraged. They have no chemistry, never had and it was obvious. Vocally, they were good and the song itself is nice, but in a competition as strong as this, they weren’t in my top 10 either. Koit especially came off cheesy on stage and it all seemed like some sort of telenovela tribute act. I don’t think they wanted to present it… Read more »

After yesterday’s results, I think Estonia won’t even bother staging Eesti Laul next year, they’ll just internally select Kerli! As for Latvia and Lithuania, they’ll be fighting over Aminata! 😀

I was joking, I know Eesti Laul has become something of a tradition in Estonia so I wasn’t really expecting them to ditch it. In any case, if Kerli participates again, I think she’ll win easily because of the perceived injustice against her this year. Same for Aminata, if she tries to represent Latvia or Lithuania again.

Kerli needs to win over the public. If she enters again, and someone else brings a song and a stage presentation that had proven to be successful at Eurovision in the past (as was the case this year, with Koit and Laura emulating Mørland and Debrah), she might find herself 2nd yet again. Once more, she needs to worry about Rasmus Rändvee, who nearly crashed both their parties at Eesti Laul with his energetic performance.

What is happening this year? First Finland, now Estonia?? This is insane! It’s my 2nd shock after what happened at semi final 1! I mean… Croatia qualified and Estonia didn’t? We’re obviously speaking about an open 2nd semi, so everything was possible! There would be surprises! I’m really happy for Belarus and Hungary! Still shocked that Serbia and Switzerland didnt qualify but i can tell why. Switzerland had perfect vocals and a nice song. But the staging cost them the qualification…what were they thinking? Bright yellow dont match with that song. Serbia was kinda weak and again thr dress and staging were poor. And Fyrom (btw thanks for puting “fyr”, you respect Greeks that way) had a good song and staging but it was pretty clear that the song was dragged by the backing vocalists. Even countries with no neighbour voting -like Switzerland and Fyrom- can get to the final with the right… Read more »

Estonia was a guilty pleasure – unbelievable cringe-cheese, but it will be missed in the final. I thought FYR Macedonia had the best song of the competition by far – admittedly it was a flat performance, however still worthy of a place in the final as the second semi-final was full of so many dreadful, dreadful songs. And Switzerland? She was robbed! How did that annoying wet song from Austria qualify over these three?

Having said all that – yay that Romania went through as it’s so much fun – and those cuties from Belarus were amazing.

Norway and Denmark qualified. This is great. it means that Nordics points will split.
Seems that this year it is between Italy, Portugal and Bulgaria for the win.
Too many Swedish composers like songs. They ruin Serbia, Greece, Azerbaijan and countless others that have much more interesting songs that what they send lately. And more countries should dump English, it is very much worn already and if the singer is mumbling or chewing English – not knowing it perfectly… hmm. Really not works.

Voted for Israel 5 times, glad they made it. Otherwise lots of mediocre songs in this semi. Serbia, Switzerland, Estonia should have qualified. Austria, Denmark, Croatia were boring and should not have qualified, and Hungary’s “jalla balla balla jalla” gargling was terrible too. Romania and Israel were the only ones to cheer us up. Great performance by the Dutch girls but a very mediocre song.

This was always going to be a tough semi-final and I’m pretty happy except for Estonia…I can’t believe they missed out! This was one of my favourite songs and I thought it would finish in the Top 10 for sure. As much as I love Norway, I would take them out and replace them with Estonia as I thought their song fell a bit flat tonight. Very happy that Austria, Belarus and Croatia all got through. One thing about the running order from the 2nd semi-final : since 2013 and the influence of producers on the running order, draws n°6 & n°18 (or the last country to perform in a SF 2) are the best ones for countries in order to qualify for the final. These spots have a 100% qualifying record (since 2013) and this years the 6th country to perform was The Netherlands and the last country to perform (18th) was Israel. Generally predictable results, I personally got 9/10. I only missed on Norway which I thought was borderline and thought that Estonia would qualify with ease. But I must say, I wasn’t very surprised as their performance wasn’t one of the 10 best ones. Laura was vocally a bit off and Koit’s look was between creepy and hilarious. It deserved it as a song but not as a performance. Got it right with Belarus and Croatia which were not surefire qualifiers. After Jacques killing that performance Croatia couldn’t have missed out. I love the Estonian song, was sure it would qualify, saw it in the top10 in the final. But their performance today was really bad: it was too staged, completely unnatural, their looks and smiles. I believe if they just stood there nearby singing the song with not so much camera work, they would have qualified. I also like their dressing in their official video or in the video of the italian version of the song much much better than on todays night. What a pitty, they messed it really up with that staging today.

Swap Croatia and Hungary for Switzerland and Estonia!!!

If Italy doesn’t win the whole thing, there is no justice in this world.

Re: Press Conference

The guy asking Kristian what his “secret” is, just a rude and pointless innuendo. Let the boy be, he performed amazingly!

Also: Nathan Trent, so so cute! So glad he is through.

I hope Estonia make a complaint to the EBU and somehow make it to the final! A man can dream

My cousin and I laughed at the funny staging and the acting. :p But, actually it is an impressive vocal achievement to sing this song; I would like to try to sing it myself some day. So yes, I do like it. 🙂

I like Croatia performance, song is actually not my cup of tea, but I’m not surprised at all with their qualification, well deserved.

I like the Croatian song too, tommy you are not alone 🙂
The song is underrated…mostly ppl laugh at him because of the staging (his face on the background etc etc) They sounded much better than any other entry tonight, they were flawless !!! I don’t get why they hate him so much….it’s much better than Portugal…

I know what will: maybe a song that is not a reject from the Azeri national selection from 2 years ago (which Apollo was)?

Though they wanted Apollo back then, they just couldn’t find a singer.
