Last year she left Eurovision fans LOL-ing with her ignorance of European geography and her description of Jamala as “sad tree woman”. And on Wednesday Suzanne from Atlanta did it again by watching and reacting to the Eurovision 2017 Top 7.

Suzanne, the older sister of wiwiblogger William, doesn’t mind embracing American stereotypes. She knows what she knows, and isn’t afraid to flaunt what she doesn’t.

For this video — the first of a series we’ll be publishing in the coming weeks — the 43-year-old beauty slips into a Slay by Wiwi tank top and sounds off on Portugal, Bulgaria, Moldova, Belgium, Sweden, Italy and Romania — the top seven acts in this year’s grand final.

American reacts to Eurovision 2017

Her brother may run wiwibloggs, but Suzanne doesn’t have time to follow the contest. Besides working a full-time job and raising a dog and a cat, she’s an amateur body builder so is usually in the gym or at yoga class. And even if she wanted to watch Eurovision, she can’t: The performances are geo-blocked in the United States.

All those distractions make her the perfect person to watch and judge the show. She’s not inside the Eurovision bubble and has little context of the various European stereotypes that may influence European voters. So she can rate each act simply as a music lover. Yasss, queen.

Among other things, she mishears Romania’s yodel-eh-ee-oh and thinks the song is about a ukulele. She can’t get over Blanche’s occasionally expressionless expression. And she’s convinced one of the acts is wearing a toupé.

In any case, you can watch the full video above. We’ll be uploading Suzanne’s reaction to all 42 entries — and Russia’s Julia Samoylova — in the weeks ahead.

I would have liked to see another american reaction.. not William’s sister. She definitely knows what’s going on with Eurovision as she’s following her brother’s blog and you tube as well. Therefore, the reaction looked a bit forced for few of the songs..

Maybe the Moldovian was wearing a toupe, but how can you tell, if you see him for the first time in your life?

Everything I wanted to say others already said. Suzanne is a breath of fresh air, her interaction with William is so charming and I fully enjoyed hearing her opinion on the songs. Having Italy as a winner does show good taste. I’d love to hear her opinion on the other songs too.

Suzanne needs to comment on every song, every year!
Liking Bulgaria and Italy is a sign of good taste, of course!

William: 1) Thank you so much for asking her about Bulgaria’s location again 😀 2) On the YouTube comments, you weren’t sure about the compliment “I like the cut of her jib”. It’s a nautical colloquialism from the Age of Sail, where how the various sails and rigging were set up would indicate how the ship would handle, to a practiced eye. The jib being one of those sails, with a lot of associated rigging and neighbor sails, “I like the cut of her jib” is effectively saying “I like the way she’s put all that together”. (It usually refers… Read more »

To be fair, most British people would have the same confused reaction to questions about obscure Eurovision contestants as Suzanne does,

I like that she cares a lot about the lyrics, even if are not in english. Last year too, she was interested in lyrics about unconditional love, but shared love, not just sad like Amar pelos dois. And I love what she said about Portugal lyrics, move on, nostalgia is just a chapter in life, that ruins the song.

She didn’t say it ruined the song. She just said that it makes her tell him “move on”, which is entirely different. The fact that it is a sad song, doesn’t make it bad… Otherwise you would have to rule out practically every Blues song every composed as bad…

I showed some Eurovision 2017 songs to a friend and he really liked Sweden, Bulgaria, Norway, Austria and Spain.

5. How shocked she was when she realized Italy actually finished 6th. I was too! At least top 3 y’all!!
6. She liked Portugal. Salvador is building bridges and crossing borders. He touches hearts worldwide.

Highlighs:
1. ?he frontman of Sunstroke Project wearing a toupé.
2. Romania’s “gross guy”. Yeah, he’s not the most adorable guy.

AngieP, I know a few people (men and women) who would disagree with your description of poor Alex. Including me, I may yet go to Constan?a for my holidays.

I picked up on what she said about Alex, too. Everyone was saying how sweet and nice he was, but this horrible kiss and his statements after the ESC shows that his niceness was only a façade.

Suzanne slays! She’s great! And tanned! Too much sunbathing or is it always sunny in Atlanta, Georgia?

The fact that she knows little about Eurovision as well as her spontaneous reactions make these videos more interesting and fun.

There will be more videos? Yeeeeeesssssss!! Looking forward!

I’d love to see what she’s thinking about favourites which didn’t do well (ex. Finland, Estonia, Switzerland) as well as strange acts like Croatia and Montenegro.

Great video! Always love when non fans reacts to Eurovision, it offers a new perspective. Suzanne has that adorable energetic persona almost only Americans can have: Energetic without being tiresome.

And William looks and acts very Jim Parsons-esque! And I find it so cute:)

Actually Suzanne I think your opinion counts, because it’s people like you who decide the result every year. Not people like us who watch every last preview video and play all the songs constantly in the lead up to the contest. And if you had been voting, you could have done so for both Bulgaria and Italy in equal amounts. But Alex Florea “gross”? Tough crowd.

Suzanne is wonderful in a Reese Witherspoon-style adorable way.

The two siblings look so much alike – at least we can all stop wondering what William would look like in drag (oh, that was just me?) – anyway, I can’t wait for the next installment!

ImpressiveInstants (new video on link)

I was surprised she said all that about Romania and still placed them 5th. I do believe it was a bit of a trainwreck, especially him. LOL.

Italy on the other hand was a little sloppy on stage for me. I love William’s face when she praises the graphics lol.

Great video. What strikes me is that the pre-contest favourite Italy made the biggest impression on her. So, what went wrong? 6th place is a crime.

Whenever I show anyone Occidentale, I always show them the San Remo version. That was the one that caught my imagination. The Eurovision staging just was disappointing.

Agreed. If the Eurovision version had been as good as the Sanremo version, Italy would at least have been at the head of that tight pack of 3rd-through-6th-place, rather than at the back end of that pack.

*This

6th place for Italy is lower than expected, as well as 15th for the UK. I wanted to see UK in the top 10 and Italy to win. But… Italy did nab top 10 (almost top 5), while UK made a middle of the scoreboard with the best result since 2011.

On the other hand, Finland… Why? How? No fair! 🙁
