She’s the Belgian teenager who made all of Belgium proud when she placed fourth in the grand final of Eurovision with her song “City Lights”.

And on Wednesday Blanche had even more reason to cheer, as her song went platinum in Belgium after clocking up 20,000 sales.

Not bad for a singer who only turned 18 on June 10!

Blanche — known to her family as Ellie Delvaux — managed to live up to all the pre-Eurovision hype with her very respectable fourth place finish at Eurovision.

But, perhaps more importantly as she forges her career in the years ahead, she’s proved to be a huge commercial hit across borders.

Her song, written by Pierre Dumoulin, climbed the iTunes and Spotify charts in almost twenty countries.

As the downloads and streams picked up across Europe, Blanche was busy studying and finishing school.

But she did take some time out to appear on the German show ZDF-Fernsehgarten, where she performed her song to an adoring audience on June 5.

The show, which has also welcomed Eurovision 2016 star Serhat in the past, clearly made an impression on Blanche.

The singer, who rarely posts on social media, shared a series of pictures from the show on her Facebook account, writing: “Took a little break in my studies to say hello to Germany and I had a great time with two really cool guys! I’ll be back sooooon.”

Serhat, you’ll remember, also made two appearances on the show.

Germany’s televoters gave Blanche 10 points during the grand final.

Her success in Europe is still going strong as she remains in the iTunes charts in Austria, Belgium, Lithuania, Sweden and Switzerland.

Next up? Her debut album, which will include “City Lights” and nine other tracks. More details coming soon…

Are you looking forward to hearing more from Blanche? Let us know in the comment box!

A hit is not always liked by Eurovision fans. Frans “If I were sorry” has currently 75m listenings on Spotify and Blanche only 1m. Frans song was a real hit and he is genuine artist as well. But Eurovision fans did not like him.

His talking about Eurovison fans not final ranking. Final rankings are not the reflection of Eurovison fans’ tastes. If that would be the case we would completely different outcomes. See OGAE poll for instance.

He even finished high on the televote for that matter!! OGAE is only a subset of the Eurovision fans. I don’t think its fair to discount the other voters though they may just have been casual viewers……but they are fans nonetheless.

Blanche has 10 million. Robin and Francesco have 17 million. Salvador 7 milllion and Sunstroke Project 13 million. But I do take your point and I don’t think that those numbers indicate more or less talent, as someone here said.

‘City Lights’ will always be the Euphoria of ESC 2017, you can say what you want but Blanche and Sunstroke Project are the only acts this year with a hit.

Sorry but they were not hits. I live in Belgium and very rarely have I heard City Lights in the radio (much much less than I heard Loic’s sing) and Sunstroke Project never ever. As I said, why should that matter anyhow? Is not that Eurovision produces world hits…

Kris

And that’s the attitude we are striving to change!! Vote for quality songs with the potential to be world hits!! People instead vote for performers’, their demographics , their backgrounds, the stagings instead!! Every year we do have great songs in the competition and many of them are sung well in the competition too!! But Alas people have a different criterion to vote and I as an individual can’t do anything to change other people’s mind other than to put my point across and hope that they agree. City Lights and Hey Mamma are charting in multiple countries other than… Read more »

I do understand. I just think that ‘staying power’, as you put it, is not necessarily dictated by sales. I am sorry to disagree but Portugal’s did not have anything else than the music and that is the true staying power.BTW Amar pelos dois is still charting in multiple iTunes Charts.

Kris

Kris

Not sales…..Staying power is determined by streams though(people’s want to listen to the song again). Portugal had a lot going on apart from the Music. It had a conspicuously unkempt singer with quirky/perceptibly unusual gestures and motions and a life-at-stake background story. And that’s a lot to sway away the casual viewers from solely focusing on the song/music. I don’t think the i-tunes are representative charts. It’s use is only limited to the entitled/non-tech savvy. For example if 10 people in my country ended up downloading a song on i-tunes I think that’d be enough to put it in the… Read more »

Ok I understand your point of view, which I don’t agree with. But ok. I only thing is funny that the pre-contest months many fans were saying that his gestures and presence was off-putting and he would never win because of that. Now you are saying it gave him the victory… On health, enough has been said. Don’t want to get back to that topic…

Why is it that almost every single post people make it about Salvador even if he is not the topic?… Are you not tired of always making the same points? And why compare City Lights with Amar pelos dois, Ocidentali’s Karma or Hey Mama? So different songs with completely different genres. I for one find those four very good songs and I don’t care a little bit if they chart or not. That doesn’t make a song good or bad for me.

City Lights and Hey Mamma are the only entries that can still be seen charting in multiple markets. The public has spoken, ladies!

I find it quite weird that that one Swedish label wanted to sign Kristian Kostov despite his song disappearing from every iTunes and Spotify top 200 on the face of Earth. The real star here is Blanche.

You do understand that for the purpose of ESC charting and selling records does not mean you are the winning song … it’s a whole different thing … Blanche may be enjoying success with her song but that does not mean that such success had to be mirrored in Eurovision … remember … the public also spoke loud and clear about Salvador’s song … and they majorly went for it … and there was no need to chart success and spotify streams or whatever … specially for such a non-commercial non-pop song … it should be applauded that people still… Read more »

And saying ‘Amar pelos dois’ has musical significance!! Wow!! That’s new!! Significance is determined by the ability of the song to stay in people’s mind. You can be happy about liking a song with your reported great meaning and emotions. But a bad song(in the sense of low staying power) will remain just that. Music is not about meaning unfortunately. Music is about expression. And a meaningless song like ‘Sanomi’ is much better than a song with low staying power but great lyrics. And if you are of the perception that songs with meaning have to be dated and useless… Read more »

What a stupid comparison. You are just pissed because a non-English non-Nordic song won the contest for once. People voted for Amar pelos dois and that is a fact and those 12 and 10 points from the public came from many different countries that don’t even understand the lyrics. The lowest score was a 5… how is that for negative?.., So it is about the music, stupid! It’s if you don’t like it but invent all sorts of ridiculous theories about music is just sad. If I were you I would do a anti racist training course as you clearly… Read more »

A vote in ESC is not necessarily a vote on the song unfortunately. And I’ve explained this already in my comment. By comments on the song , I mean comments on the actual song ‘Amar Pelos dois’ and not on Salvador or Portugal. Also how you don’t even know the meaning of ‘racism’ or ‘xenophobia’ and yet go about using these terms bothers me.Better you make a Google search before advising me to take a lesson. If only you’d taken the time to understand a comment before mindlessly trying to show your deriding self to others you could have saved… Read more »

I know very well the meaning of those words, much better than you ever will. Your comments reveal do much hate that I can only believe that are motivated by the fact that Portugal won the contest and that is xenophobia.
Saying that the vote for Amar pelos dois was not about the song is so inconceivably ridiculous… if it was not about the song what was it about?!… Neighbors? Gimmicks? Staging? Nothing of that influenced the victory.

Aria

Aria

Oh my!! You really are delusional!! So much so that you are commenting under two different names under the same article and in all of them chastising other people’s opinion.

BTW Amar pelos dois hit the record of streaming in Spotify of any Portuguese song ever. 7,1 million listens, 6 million coming from abroad. These numbers may not be big for international standards but mean a lot for a small industry as the Portuguese. So there you have your ‘staying power’. And besides, it will stay in the heart of the Portuguese for ever!

Charts isn’t a measurement of talent. I guess you consider Frans talented too? Cause his song has the most listens on Spotify out of any ESC participator. Jamala barely charted and she’s horselengths more talented than Frans.
