Eurovision may be a battle of songs, but usually the winner has one hell of a voice. And so do the acts that finish further down the scoreboard. This year the United Kingdom’s Lucie Jones hit the high notes before a stunning starscape. Croatia’s Jaques Houdek worked extreme registers from baritone to soprano. And Denmark’s Anja Nissen unleashed all her power while laying down her armour. But in the end our readers felt that one act out did them all. After counting 6,810 votes, we can now reveal that OG3NE has won the Vision Music Award 2017 for Best Live Vocals.

With precision, power and, above all, harmonies, the Sisters Vol proved that three is better than one. Lisa, Amy and Shelley honoured their mother’s brave fight against cancer, delivering a wall of sound that smacked of strength and class.

Just hours before the grand final, we couldn’t stop singing the praises of their nuclear sound.

Their song “Lights and Shadows” has faced criticism for sounding like a 1990s song from Wilson Phillips. But Dutch trio O’G3NE pull their number firmly into 2017 with subtle but effective staging that arouses emotions and honours the perseverance of their mother, who has been battling cancer for several years. A standout moment comes when the camera looks down on the ladies from above and they nod to their mother with the outline of a woman projected onto the floor. They do it with their name, too. O is their mother’s blood type, and their genes unite them. Their harmonies are nuclear and their simple but sassy dance moves are performed in perfect unison.

The trio follows in the footsteps of 2014 winner Ruth Lorenzo from Spain, 2015 winner Aminata Savadogo from Latvia and 2016 winner Michal Szpak from Poland.

Too few spots for nominees, sick competition regardless of songs…
I’d place Kasia and Anja lower for certain reasons though. The winner thing is betweem Lucie and OG’s for me, the first one just got visuals taking focus away from her skills (and too much acting).

It can’t be the best live vocals for me. Technically they are good, but expression-wise there is not much to get from their performance, sadly. It sounds all too clean, and there’s a clear lack of dynamic variation. That makes it pretty impersonal.

Omar Naber’s voice is remarcable.

Lindita (Albania) and Ilinca (Romania) were very good too. All these polls are about taste, and it’s all right.

Well deserved! Then again, any of the nominated acts would’ve been a good choice. 🙂

Croatia last in this category!?!? Really? I mean, you dont have to like the song, but noone can beat Jacques when it comes to vocal range!
This is a joke….

Deserved winner, but Kasia was overrated imo. She sounded good live, don’t get me wrong, but her voice sounded a bit harsh at times. All of the contenders in this category sounded better than she did, as well as others who weren’t nominated (Lindita, Tamara, and Norma John for example). Deserved winner though. Congrats to O’G3NE!

Fans kinda had no choice … who the hell belted those octaves with equal prowess while performing a boring already-done-before uptempo song? Exactly, as Mariah Carey once said, “f**** nobody”.

No choice? They had Salvador, Kris and Jacques, yet they voted for O’g3ne, Kasia and Lucie. Diva style as always.

I don’t know why, but Kasia’s
vocals just seem so forced and harsh.Lucie or Anja should be on 2nd place, Kasia on 7th, but I agree with other results. But where are Claudia, Tamara, Lindita and Omar they had ballads, but still amazing voices, at least two of them should be on this list.

Fans did not vote for them cause they didn’t like them as much as everybody else in this top 7 … I mean … that should be clear, right?

Talent WON. Kasia didn’t even deserve to be nominated as her song was in no ways vocally challenging–literally something Taylor Swift could sing as well!

It’s time for you to take your pills. hahaha
Judging from the nonsense you’re sharing with us, you’d better take twice a normal dose.

I’m not saying Kasia is on Taylor’s level (she’s obviously better vocally), I’m just saying that the vocal effort needed for Trashlight is pretty low. You sound like you only know Look What You Made Me Do from Taylor, check her older material out before judging her, she’s a very talented artist.

@Polegend Godgarina I don’t really agree with you. Kasia’s song was very hard to sing, considering extremely low register in the chorus and the amazing 15-second lasting high note she hit at the end of the song during the SF1. Glad to see her at the 2nd place! 😉

AND don’t forget she was ill and on antibiotics during both SF1 and final. You can listen to her singing at Ukraine’s NF, where she is sooooooooo perfect! <3

The three sisters have already gone thru hell seeing their mother dying, but they still don’t understand everything a mother is living. Only when they will become mothers themselves, they will understand that giving birth is facing death…you don’t know how will end.
