It’s one of the biggest award shows on the planet. And this afternoon organisers published the full list of nominnees for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2017. American superstar and Jedward botherer Taylor Swift leads the pack with six nominations.
But in between other global names like Shaun Mendes and Ed Sheeran, there’s plenty of Eurovision interest.
As ever, the EMAs are mostly decided by audience vote, and each country also gets to vote for its best local act. These categories usually attract a few nominations of recent Eurovision acts, with Lena, Marco Mengoni and Daniel Kajmakoski winning for their countries in recent years.
This year’s lot sees many stars from Kyiv, a couple from previous contests and a scattering of national final stand-outs. Let’s take a look.
- Nina Kraljic (Croatia 2016) — Best Adria Act
- Sara Jo (Serbia 2013 with Moje 3) — Best Adria Act
- Loïc Nottet (Belgium 2015) — Best Belgian Act
- Francesco Gabbani (Italy 2017) — Best Italian Act
- Margaret (Krajowe Eliminacje 2016) — Best Polish Act
- Freddie (Hungary 2016) — Best Hungarian Act
- Gabi Tóth (A Dal 2017) — Best Hungarian Act
- Joci Pápai (Hungary 2017) — Best Hungarian Act
- Magdi Rúzsa (Hungary 2007) — Best Hungarian Act
- Amir (France 2016) — Best French Act
- Elena Temnikova (Russia 2007 with Serebro) — Best Russian Act
- Jessica Mauboy (Interval 2014) — Best Australian Act
- Static & Ben El Tavori (Judges on The Next Star for Eurovision 2017 – present) — Best Israeli Act
Voting for all the above categories and more is now open at MTVEMA.com. The awards ceremony itself will take place at the The SSE Arena, Wembley in London on Sunday 12 November. Kosovo born British popstar Rita Ora will be the host for the evening. Of course, she infamously withdrew from the UK’s Eurovision selection process back in 2009.
Who is your favourite artist on the list? What Eurovision acts should have been nominated but weren’t? Let us know in the comments below.
LOÏC NOTTET has my vote(s)!
I agree completely with Polegend Godgarina. Anyone from outside the North American market are treated as second class. They are not true Europe Music Awards, are they? And is there a separate category for all 50 countries?
I agree with Polegend. It’s a joke that Europeans have to award an American song as the Song of the Year. That’s why I like the EBBAs, the European Border Breakers Award because they showcase REAL talents from all over Europe: https://www.europeanborderbreakersawards.eu
I mean, just look at Best Pop. In the nominations you have:
– Lady Gaga (hasn’t had a hit in Europe since 2013)
– Miley Cyrus (hasn’t had a hit in Europe since 2013)
– Demi Lovato (Sorry Not Sorry was a moderate hit in the UK and Ireland)
– Taylor Swift (came back six weeks ago from a two-year hiatus)
– Camila Cabello a.k.a. CaCa (who?)
This just doesn’t make sense. They might as well call them the VMAs hosted in Europe.
Who from Portugal? No Salvador Sobral?
Francesco gabbani
Loic Nottet’s album is freaking great!
Yes, Welcome to SELFOCRACY … 🙂 Ans his concerts on his SELFOCRACYTOUR are just awesome 🙂 🙂 🙂
Go Francesco!- what a great year 2017 is turning out to be for you.
Great to see Amir nominated for the EMA and the NRJ Music Awards 😉
Good luck to everyone!
I voted for Amir, it’s just been so amazing to see how much of a star he’s become in France since Stockholm. He’s also nominated for another NRJ Music Award for Francophone Duo/Group of the Year due to his collaboration with OneRepublic on the song “No Vacancy”
Why are Static and Ben El nominated?!?!
Cheap catchy music or as Salvador said:”Fast food music”
(I’m Israeli)
it’s called pop
Most useless award show ever. They would rather nominate American artists/songs who had little success in Europe, than successful European acts in the main categories. Remember when Taylor Swift snatched awards left and right for Bad Blood in 2015, as if that song was a hit in Europe?
“little success in Europe”
Sure Jan.
European Countries Bad Blood reached the top ten in:
United Kingdom (#4)
Ireland (#8)
Hungary (#10)
Slay, I guess. A very representative multi-award winner for the European music scene.
This is a sick joke. How dare you to say this?He is alive .
ff; he said it because he wasn’t nominated. Y’all are so transparent.
with all that’s going with salvador the comment, regardless if it was meant in the way you said or not was completely unnecessary
He wrote that on other posts as well.
Mods, please delete this kind of comment.
please tell me this is a sick joke
Did he die? What did I miss?
