SunStroke Project and Friends concert in Chisinau

Hey Mamma! On Tuesday night, SunStroke Project celebrated ten years of activity with their friends from Eurovision 2017 in an electrifying concert. Moldova‘s Eurovision fans were happy to welcome acts from as far as Israel in the south to Sweden in the north; from Belarus in the east to Spain in the west. It was a brilliantly put together show which, under the title SunStroke Project and Friends, brought the Eurovision dream to Chisinau.

The show started with SunStroke Project’s collaboration with Olia Tira, “Run Away” from Eurovision 2010. The song that put SunStroke Project on the map and Epic Sax Guy on the viral memes list was the perfect upbeat song to kick off the party.

One by one, the international acts performed two songs each, creating a Eurovision 2017 reunion experience. The concert featured performances from IMRI, Nathan Trent, Artsvik, Slavko Kalezic, Manel Navarro, Robin Bengtsson, Ilinca ft Alex Florea, Dihaj, Naviband, Jowst and time Timebelle.

Ilinca ft Alex Florea, who’d popped over from neighbouring Romania did their own take on Paula Seling & Ovi’s 2010 entry “Playing with Fire”. Ilinica impressed the Chisinau audience by able to hit all of Paula’s high notes.

The hosts (and guest of honour) SunStroke Project sang nine songs in total, including their latest single, “Sun Gets Down”.

The one song however that made everyone in the audience dance and clap along was the song that made the entire thing possible: “Hey Mamma”, which placed third on the grand final scoreboard and showed that Moldova is an underrated but dangerous contender for the Eurovision trophy.

The show was hosted by Eurovision 2017 host Timur Miroshnychenko, who also reprised his role as Green Room host and interviewed the stars in the first row. Although he spoke in Russian to the audience and in English with the Eurovision stars, there was another host, Lucian, who spoke Romanian, so the show was trilingual.

One of the most emotional moments came at the very end, when SunStroke Project frontman Sergey Ialovitsky expressed his hope that the show, which ran almost without a glitch, proved that Eurovision can be brought to Moldova. As confetti and balloons fell to the floor, the audience erupted into applause and at that moment you could really feel the optimism of the public that, indeed, such a thing is not unlikely.

What do you think about SunStroke Project turning ten years old? Would you like them to return to the Eurovision stage for a third time? And do you agree that Moldova could win Eurovision one day? Let us know in the comments!
