It’s the country that won its only Eurovision crown in 1986. But after years of under performing, Belgium is fast becoming something of a song contest powerhouse.

And its artists continue to excel long after the final curtain call in May. The nation’s two biggest music award ceremonies are scheduled for January and Blanche (2017), Laura Tesoro (2016), and Loïc Nottet (2015) are all up for gongs.

The French language broadcaster RTBF announced the nominees for the D6bel Music awards on Monday, while Flemish broadcaster VRT revealed the Music Industry Awards (MIAs) shortlist earlier in December.

All three singers are nominated in multiple categories, although Blanche is the only one to receive nominations from both events.

Music Industry Awards (Flanders)

Blanche is nominated in the following categories:

  • Public vote:
    • Breakthrough
    • Hit of the Year (for “City Lights”)

Laura Tesoro is nominated in the following categories:

  • Public vote:
    • Best Pop
    • Best Solo Female

D6Bels Music Awards (Wallonia and Brussels)

Loïc Nottet is nominated in the following categories:

  • Public vote:
    • Best Solo Male
    • Best Pop
    • Biggest Hit (for “Million Eyes”)
  • Music industry vote:
    • Best Concert
    • Best Clip

Blanche is nominated in the following categories:

  • Public vote:
    • Best Pop
    • Biggest Hit (for “City Lights”)
  • Music industry vote:
    • Biggest Revelation.

It’s exciting times for the trio. We’ll find out in the new year if they take home one (or more) gongs.

The winners of the D6bels — pronounced Decibels — will be announced by RTBF on Friday 26 January 2018. Shortly after that we will also discover the MIA victors — VRT will reveal them on Tuesday 30 January 2018.

However, all three may struggle to find space to store their prizes. Laura and Loïc both won industry awards last year. While in November Loïc picked up a MTV Europe Music Award. In the same month, Blanche took home a European Border Break Award. Can their trophy cabinets hold any more silverware?

What do you think? Which prize would you like to see to go to Blanche, Loïc and Laura? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

I hate awards shows and this is no exception. I do love Laura though. ‘Whats the pressure’ one of the best openers ever.

Still love listening to Laura’s song and watching her performance. She didn’t deserve to open the show but in doing so gained a commendable position.

LOÏC NOTTET is my favourite in all the categories. His album SELFOCRACY is the best album ever. He can sing, dance, compose and he’s great on stage. His concerts of the SELFOCRACYTOUR are just amazing, even better than the concerts of the so called American/British popstars. That boy is so talented. TOP, TOP,TOP 🙂

Their 2015 and 2017 entries were just amazing, staging of 2016 was spectacular, one of my favourite countries in recent years.
I remember felling in love with Loic back than and still love him so much <3
Hope their 2018 entry will be as interesting as the previous ones.

It’s good to see that their domestic career is progressing. Belgium is on a roll, one my favorite ESC countries in 2010s.
