Public Television of Armenia (AMPTV) has confirmed the 20 acts who will be competing to represent Armenia at Eurovision 2018. The 20 acts will compete in the national final Depi Evratesil — and there are some big names in the mix.

As we’ve long known, the Armenian-American singer Tamar Kaprelian is part of the lineup. She will perform her song “Touyn Ari” (Poisoned). Tamar has previously represented Armenia in 2015, as part of the supergroup Genealogy. She told wiwibloggs, “I want people in Armenia to know me as a songwriter, as a singer and as a social entrepreneur.”

One of the other acts, Lusine Mardanyan, is part of Tamar’s Nvak Foundation. The foundation is a non-traditional music education programme for young musicians.

Also on the list is Depi Evratesil 2017 contestant Asmik Shiroyan. This time last year, she was eliminated in the duel round of the long-running national final format. She is returning to the national final after getting encouragement from her fans. Asmik told wiwibloggs, “I even decided to ask my fans, Would you like me to be a participant in 2018? I was surprised that they reacted very positively, so I decided, Yes, I will, I’ll try again.”

The lineup also contains some heavy hitters from Armenia’s pop scene. On the list is Sevak Khanagyan, who won last year’s edition of The X Factor Ukraine. Also featuring is award-winning singer Hayk Kasparov.

Depi Evratesil 2018 – competing acts

  • Alternative (band)
  • Amaliya Margaryan
  • Angel
  • Arman Mesropyan
  • Asmik Shiroyan
  • Hayk Kasparov
  • Gata Band
  • Gevorg Harutyunyan
  • Kamil
  • Lusine Mardanyan
  • Maria’s Secret
  • Mariam
  • Mher Armenia
  • Nemra (band)
  • Robert Koloyan
  • Sevak Khanagyan
  • Suren Poghosyan
  • Tamar Kaprelian
  • Tyom
  • Zhanna Davtyan

The broadcaster has also confirmed that Depi Evratestil will involve three stages — a significant reduction from the 10-week process to select the act for Kyiv.

Depi Evratesil 2018 will begin on 3 February with the preliminary show. In the first stage, the 20 acts will perform their songs live. Then in the semi-final, the songs will be voted on by televote and by an international jury. The acts that have made it to the final will battle it out to win the position of Armenia’s act for Lisbon.

What do you think of the Depi Evratestil 2018 lineup? Who would you like to see represent Armenia in Lisbon? Share your thoughts below!

Tamar has the full package, yet I have a feeling like she is super underrated by the Armenian pubic and the fans here. She is a cool singer, whose mother tongue is English, perhaps with an uptempo-ethnic pop song…no need to mention she is a very beautiful lady. She can make a Poli Genova, and I bet that she can do better than the fourth place. Asmik or anybody else in this lot can’t even be compared to her. She is also quite different than the past Eurovision entrants of Armenia in a good way. Tamar Kaprelian for the President… Read more »

Well said! We need to wait for the songs Tamar seems to have everything that is needed for Eurovision. Gata Band and their music may stand out and Sevak also is very intresting artist but I’m not sure whether what he does suits to Eurovision !
I’m fine nearly with any name in this list expect Mher Armenia! And unfortunatly for some reasons I think he will win

All songs will be available on Depi Eveatesil’s YouTube page on January 15! So can’t wait. My personal favorites are Tamar,Asmik,Zhanna and Marina’s Secret. But we don’t know songs so we can judge by singers.

I don’t care what they are going to send, but hopefully they won’t win. We’ve had enough with Ukraine this year. No.

If Armenia won, the only thing different would be that Azerbaijan would not participate. That’s pretty much all.

But that’s the problem. That decreases the number of participants and Azerbaijan always sends good songs to Eurovision, we need them. Also I don’t think Armenia can make a good show, financially they are in worse situation than Ukraine. I don’t really see that happening very soon tbh.

@Jose – Actually, Ukraine has a lower GDP per capita than Armenia and they managed to produce a pretty decent show. I’m certain if Armenia wins, they will put together a great show. They did a pretty good job hosting JESC in 2011 when the contest was on its last breathe.

@Oganesyan – omg no. Azerbaijan is one of my favourite esc countries. That would be terrible if they withdrew. 🙁

I appreciate all the job Tamar does, and she is fighting so hard to win this competition. But we already saw her on Eurovision stage, and for me, as a Eurovision addicted fan, I’d so much want to see Asmik there as well. I pick her

I’m sorry guys, but its Asmik Shiroyan’s time. I love tamar and she would be great but i feel its asmiks time as she was done so wrong last year. I hope tamar will represent armenia as a soloist aswell as she was always way too good for a group. Sevak will be compeitition aswell.

Asmik is a strong vocalist. If only her song is as strong as she is, definitely will win the competition

They will probably send some Qélé Qélé 2.0. I do not expect anything good from them, but of course armenians will make a hype around their entries as they always do.

So you think Qele Qele wasn’t good?

Qele Qele was a cheap pop tune and there was nothing special about that. That’s beyond my comprehension how it came higher than Norwegian, Serbian, Portuguese songs.

The same cheap tunes, as you called (and your taste is), were “Shady lady” and “My secret combonition” and they also came higher than your mentioned songs.

And perhaps that’s the answer could be expected from an armenian. That was my opinion, I don’t care what you think, but you gotta respect that. And I never said I liked “My secret combonition”.

My top 5 for ESC 2008:
1. Norway
2. Portugal
3. Israel
4. Serbia
5. Ukraine

Bye. :*

Qele-Qele was an incredible entry. It was one of the best of 2008 and deserved actually to finish higher than 4th. People are free to express their opinions as they wish so you can’t judge music taste.

Other than Tamar, Hasmik and Sevak, I don’t see anyone else doing really well. Very surprised some of the big names in the Armenian music industry like Lilit Hovannisyan, Artem Valter, Sofi Mkheyan or Christine Pepelyan have not submitted songs to compete.
