They’re the twins who represented Ireland twice at Eurovision, finishing eighth on their debut and are known for their distinct look, complete with sky-high quiffs. But Jedward came looking for a fresh new look on Thursday night’s episode of the Channel 5 programme Celebrity 100% Hotter.

Stylists Daniel Palmer, Melissa Sophia and Karen Williams were left mortified when the boys turned up as the Jedward we knew from their X Factor UK and Eurovision days — suits, high-top trainers and their trademark quiffs. They then explained that the image is a brand, especially to their fanbase and compared it to maintaining a well-run car.
Jedward’s worst case scenario would be having their hair shaved off, “Ireland already have one Sinéad O’Connor, we don’t need three”. Then the action switched to Melissa visiting the boys’ house for a wardrobe check, describing one glittery suit as “a walking Christmas tree.”
Unsurprisingly, Jedward were given a harsh reality check by the public survey and were only awarded a total average score of 2.9 out of 10, before Karen had an in-depth interview with the boys.
She then gave a few recommendations to Edward, who wasn’t feeling pleased with the baggy jumper, “It’s like it’s been given by my granny.” John explained to Daniel the simple secret to their trademark quiffs — mousse and hairspray.
And then it was the moment of truth for Jedward, as they saw their new look for the very first time and were impressed. The twins looked suave in their sophisticated new threads, offering a relaxed yet stylish look.
Daniel gave the boys two very different hairstyles, maintaining Edward’s quiff volume, but with a more relaxed style, and a slick look for John. Melissa added a warm glow to the boys’ make-up by applying light, even skin tones.
After the reveal, the public were then surveyed again and Jedward got up to a whopping total average score of 8.5 out of 10. 100% Hotter indeed!

I’m not sure what to make of it really, as has been said I’m seeing shades of their Luminous and ferocious music videos there, which are looks they’ve already done! I think it was interesting, but it’s further confirmed that I’m very happy to know that John and Edward style themselves 🙂
I thought that would have had a bigger career after Eurovision than what they actually had.
I’m a bit confused by what they came up with – they had the perfect opportunity to give John and Edward a contemporary, street look* but instead they gave them something which looks like a cross between Steven Seagal and the costumes from their ‘Luminous’ (not to mention John’s hair) video.
