OT Gala 11

Spain has just lived its most Eurodramatic night of the year (so far). Operación Triunfo’s Gala 11 is now over, and the country has gifted us the first four finalists of the show: Aitana, Alfred, Amaia, and Miriam. They — along with one other yet-to-be-determined act — will battle to sing for Spain at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon.

The juries and the academy’s teachers decided on the first four finalists during a three-hour show that included fabulous performances from the seven contestants (and one very dramatic elimination of Roi).

Amaia received the highest marks, securing a perfect 40 points out of 40, followed by Miriam with 36 points and Alfred with 35.

The teachers then decided to save Aitana, thus sending Agoney and Ana Guerra to the last elimination show which will happen next week. The stakes are huge: they will be the last contestants who leave the academy before the final.

But let’s now focus on the finalists! The act who received the best marks was Amaia. She’s always been the sweet girl, but tonight she oozed sexuality with her rendition of Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain”. Pitch perfect vocals and attitude? This Amaia is here to stay.

Miriam secured second place with an impressive 36 points. Her highly emotional rendition of P!nk’s “What about us?” gave us life! She felt the song as if it was hers and the audience went crazy. She kept her usual vocal control, and you could almost feel what she was feeling. Bra-va!

Last but not least, the jurors also placed Alfred in the final with 35 points. His performance was anthemic. He owned Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times”, and it was among the finest performances of the night. He brought on point vocals and added his personal touch to the song. This was just amazing.

After these three were saved, it was the teacher’s moment to save the fourth finalist. They decided to go for Aitana, who had finished fourth within the jurors’ ranking.

We are not used to seeing Aitana sing ballads, but she made everyone shed a tear with her emotional “Procuro olvidarte”. After a few weeks feeling out of place, Aitana shone bright with this song, which seemed to fit her feelings after Cepeda left the academy.

Meanwhile, Agoney and Ana Guerra will have to battle it out next week for the last slot in the final. The public will decide who gets into the final and who just misses out!

Do you agree with the result? Did anybody else deserve the right to be in the final? Are you happy with Roi being eliminated? How many finalists did you guess? Tell us in the comment section below!

Amaia has a really good voice and a great stage presence. I feel she wasn’t as solid as she should vocally, but she really delivered the song. Great job!
Miriam was also really good. I think she was overreacting at times, but it was a great performance overall.
Aitana was amazing! I had no idea what she was singing but I loved this performance!
Alfred’s performance was also so good!
All 4 finalists are really good!

I prefer Agoney over Ana Guerra, though he is a bit histrionic sometimes. Overall, all of them could make a great performance with the right song. They have grown a lot If had to choose from this 6, this would be my top: 1. Aitana. Cute girl, sweet voice voice. she should go with something like “Issues”. 2. Amaia. She makes everyhing look easy. She can perform any song. His voice is sweet too, but is also very strong. She could go with something like “Shake It Out” or something more relaxed and personal like “Con las ganas”. 3. Agoney.… Read more »

I love Amaia sooo much that I think she should not go to Eurovision. She is best suited for an international career where she could prosper. Same thing goes for Alfred.
On the other hand, Aitana or Ana Guerra for Eurovision as they have more personality and have that Eurovision attitude that we love.
Miriam I could care less and Agoney, although a perfect voice, is pure Eurovision Cliché although I would not mind him being the Runner Up to Amaia.

Amaia is definitely the favorite to win the whole thing, no question.
I think Ana Guerra is severely underrated and Miriam a bit overrated. Nothing against her, she has delivered it every time, but just can’t connect. There’s nothing special about her like with Amaia, Ana Guerra or Alfred.

As for Eurovision, Agoney is just a HUGE Eurovision cliché, he would be great in 2009, but this is 2018! The best choices for me are one of the girls: Amaia, Ana Guerra or even Aitana – it all depends on the song.

Ana Guerra is easily the worst of the entire edition, singing out of tune in every single performance since the very first one. I just don’t get how in hell has she made it to the finals with Marina, Nerea, Raoul and Mireya out.

Ana Guerra is the best of all. She’s the one who should represent Spain.

Over Ana Guerra? No way! Ana is infinitely better.

Agoney can dance, okay. His singing is nothing spectucular.

You must be joking, Tenu…. Agoney can dance, but boy can he sing! His technique and vocal abilities are just so much better than Ana’s. She has to the looks, the stage presence and the likability, but definitely not the voice. It was so obvious watching them last night, that both Roi and Ana are just not at the same level as the rest. Agoney deserves to be in the top 5 of Operación Triunfo!

ANYONE except Agoney.

Amaia is still my favorite.

They were all amazing tonight, what a wonderful show. Agoney did a great job but he definitely should not go to Eurovision unless he has a great song because he is just a huge eurovision cliche, Amaia is the best option by far, she nailed every single performance since the begining and there is something truly special about her voice and her attitude. Aitana was probably the best performance of tonight though, a pitty she isn’t nearly as consistent as Amaia, but she could be a great choice for Eurovision with the right song too.

MARQUE is not the same people behind the selection of last year, this time is GESTMUSIC the producers of the contest, i have to much hope beacuse the selector of the songs is MANU GUIX that is working with PAUL MCARTNEY 20 years. and the interpretation its on chage of the JAVIS the fashion producers of movies, musicals and more in spain.

Because everyone think he has to go because he is a diva and fits in eurovision, a 2000’s cliche

I’ll vote to save Ana War over Agoney. I’m so sorry, but Agoney has had his fair share of good performances but I don’t want a prototype, I’d like some personality on stage and Ana gives me that. #sorrynotsorry

So I’m guessing it’s a sing-off for the final place? Oh, the agony! (Or should that be agoney?) 😉
Jokes aside, it’s good to see Spain trying out something.

Do you really think the corrupeted guys in spanish broadcaster who rigged last preselection and are still on the same seats like if nothing happened wont make the same twice? Lol, they have been doing it for years, and they’ll continue, dont be naive. And even if this time the selection is made by a 100% televote, remember they’ll only say: and the winner, the most voted is… X. Which doesnt mean it is “what people wanted” (specially when people is using bots and changing IPs systematically to vote for their favs each week…, but primarly beacuse if they want… Read more »
