The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — continues to review the six acts competing in Czechia’s national final Eurovision Song CZ. Next up is the rock band Eddie Stoilow and their song “We Rule the World”. Did we feel under their command? Read on to find out!
Eddie Stoilow – “We Rule This World”
“We Rule This World” reviews
Sebastian: Where Coldplay meets Chainsmokers, Eddie Stoilow’s “We Rule This World” provides an interesting paradox. Lyrically, it’s meant to empower and energise. Audibly, however, it’s dreary, sleepy and nonchalant. And here is where it’s problem lies. Maybe we can rule the world, but… we’ll get around to it, maybe tomorrow.
Score: 5/10
Jonathan: Eddie Stoilow are giving me shades of Imagine Dragons, though maybe closer to one of the American band’s album fillers rather than chart-topping hits. “We Rule This World” is a pleasant listen and I enjoy it while its on. Although I would be happy for the song to come up on shuffle, it’s not one I’d choose to put on repeat. There’s definitely potential here, but I worry it might come across a bit lacklustre on stage.
Score: 7.5/10
Robyn: This is meant to be a positive, uplifting song, but musically it’s such a tired sound that it’s very hard to buy into the message. Everything about it just sounds bored and resigned, like a shallow attempt at a Eurovision entry. Any aim to being inspirational is undone with the dreary tone of the song.
Score: 4/10
Deban: A sleepy pop tune padded with aspirational lyrics makes an uncomfortable juxtaposition. As much as Stoilow’s message will resonate with many listeners, the stifled delivery comes off as lazy. He couldn’t even rule my world for three minutes!
Score: 4/10
Mikhail: Even though it is nice, I can say that I’ve heard it all before. I can’t tell exactly where, but the chorus sounds so familiar. In addition, it is quite monotonous and might help you fall asleep if you are struggling.
Score: 4/10
Natalie: Ugh, the clichés and forced rhymes in this song churn my stomach. I know it’s trying to be really beautiful and understated and romantic, but in reality, there’s no subtlety to this song. It’s so formulaic that it breaks my heart. Sure there’s effort here, and it’s not a bad song as such, there’s just nothing that could inspire the whole of Europe.
Score: 4/10

It’s not a bad song, but I won’t remember it after a while. Also, it’s monotonous and it’s all the same through the end.
4/10
Maybe it is unimpressive and soft, but I still like it. I’m loving his voice. It deserves better I think.

7.25/10
I like Deban’s comment ” He couldn’t even rule my world for three minutes!” that really sum’s this song up really. It is quite a pleasant song, not a winner for me though.
Lazy stuff. If they’re not putting any effort into making it, I’m not putting any effort into listening.
Pleasant to listen to, but monotone like a flat line.
5/10
If only the song was about a memory, or was trying to be ironic, this could work. Unfortunately, it’s only half there. 5/10
Funny but first time I didn’t stick to lyrics and it felt enjoyable. Then you see it doesn’t really fit. Flow is fine but there’s chance to get a snooze.
6.5/10 as I doubt it will be lifted by anything.
It’s a great song and I’ll download it to my iPod and listen to it many many times – but I still hope this won’t get chosen.
the lyrics put me off, describing something as a sensual ritual :X
It’s completely unimpressive. I agree with all of you guys.
The worst of their selection
Anyone know when the jury vote results are going to be revealed? They were supposed to be released yesterday.
Today – they already revealed the jury. They’re all former contestants: Dami Im, Iveta Muku?jan, Jalisse, Liora, Nathan Trent, Naviband, Norma John, Robin Bengtsson, Sanja Vu?i? and SunStroke Project.
This song is very… limp.
It’s too loud to be chill and it’s too soft to be anthemic. It’s just very… there. Not good for the contest, where you need to really make your mark.
4/10
I like the happiness and anthemic tone in the song. It’s a pleasant listen but won’t urge voters to pick up their phones. But I can totally listen to it …..
A 6.5/10
