Eurovision You Decide UK 2018 acts

Late night revelations, y’all! On Tuesday, the BBC announced that the Eurovision: You Decide acts would be released today (January 24). Now, just after midnight, all can be revealed. We now know the six artists hoping to represent the UK at Eurovision 2018!

The list comes without the actual songs yet. They’ll be played later today on the Ken Bruce Show on BBC Radio 2 , from 10:30-13:00 CET. But with the names comes more information — and a sense of what we can expect!

Eurovision: You Decide 2018 Entries

  • Asanda – “Legends”
  • Goldstone – “I Feel the Love”
  • Jaz Ellington – “You”
  • Liam Tamne – “Astronaut”
  • RAYA – “Crazy”
  • SuRie – “Storm”

Asanda is a former Britain’s Got Talent finalist. In 2013, she reached the live final of the show, aged just 11 – wowing judges with her performance of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” along the way.

Goldstone are a girl group, made up of singers and stage stars Aimee, Helen and Rhiannon. Jaz Ellington featured in the first season of the UK’s edition of The Voice.

Another former Voice UK alumni, Liam Tamne is a stage star who has performed in shows including Wicked and Hairspray. RAYA (aka: Raya Clark) is a multi-talented threat: singer, actor, dancer and DJ. Her song “Crazy” was written by none other than Greta Salomé!

Finally, SuRie is a stage star and has Eurovision experience. She was a backing vocalist for both Loic Nottet and Blanche — could she replicate their fourth placed finishes?

Eurovision: You Decide will take place on February 7, hosted once again by Mel Giedroyc. She’ll be joined this time, however, by Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw.

The show — directed by scriptwriter Edward Af Sillén — takes place in the historic Brighton Dome. Of course, that’s the venue where ABBA won Eurovision in 1974, with “Waterloo”.

What do you think of the You Decide lineup? Do you have an early favourite? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

We could actually do good this year (compared to the years 2012-2016)

The UK needs a cute boy with a good voice to get back into the competition.

Enter Liam Tamne…

That said, he needs to edit his use of the falsetto.

I’m liking the singers’ background. All have experience with being in front of a big live audience and most of them have been on The Voice and BGT. Good to see some have been involved with ESC in some way. I hope their songs will be great too.

If this was Ireland’s selection we would have been torn to piece’s by now and made absolute fun of by everyone. Surprise surprise the UK are given exception.

Obviously it seems to have been released pre-deadline but I like Storm if that’s the one she’s submitted. I don’t know how well it would do but hopefully it indicates we’ve got songs with character to come, the issue in previous years of You Decide was everything was so generic.

If that is the one she has submitted it will be removed, released atleast a year to early.

Well Liam Tamne audition on the voice is really great so with a great song he could be the one to watch!

I hope the BBC publishes the results of their nf this year rather than saying ‘here’s the winner’, it’s really corrupt- the jury should be accountable the same way as in esc or else what’s the point of voting

Aren’t they doing it Eurovision style this year? With a scoreboard?

Having a song by Greta makes Raya a favourite for me and Liam has an interesting voice if he can keep it under control. His song being “Astronaut” is at least intriguing! If SuRie’s “Storm” is the same as the one she already had, it needs some serious cutting as it drags far too much.
Not as good a lineup as last year.

What a racist comment.

How is that racist even? Would it be racist if the commenter were black?Probably because it was completely “white-washed” last year.

Because this is about music not about race.

Do not be ridiculous. It is most certainly not racist to celebrate diversity – in fact it was the slogan of the most recent contest, or have you forgotten already?

Lineup seems promising. Given that the UK were able to turn a mediocre song around with great singing and staging (and a revamp that actually improved the song) last year into a decent finish, I’m cautiously optimistic.

Unless its a completely new song i dont think Storm can be eligible?
Says it was released on an album in 2016 and a professional live video on youtube from July 2017

Ah someone else got there before me..I guess we shall see tomorrow. It was 4 mins 20 so it may be dramatically altered to meet the rules.

Doesn’t it also depend on how wide an audience it’s had? If barely anyone’s listened to the song before 1st September, it doesn’t really have much of an advantage. I think that will be the deciding factor if the song wins You Decide (and if it is the same song in the first place).

I agree but i thought that was for small live peformances filmed on someones camera. Whereas even though it has less than 1000 views it is commercially released to Spotify. I thought commercial releases were not allowed.

To be honest, the rules seem to always bend here and there every year that it’s getting hard to keep track of what’s actually allowed or not!

SuRie’s song seems to have been out since late 2016? It’s on Spotify… really doubting she has two songs with the same name here…

Could be the same or a re-arrangement; it wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened in a national final.

Just from looking from the names. Jaz and Liam stand out. I remember them both very well from the voice. Very much looking forward to the songs.

I’m holding my breathe for the songs but I am hopefully for something special. All of these artists can sing.. that’s one key point. Just hope for better songs and less mediocre music!!! It’s time for us to be back at the top!!

I need Britain to get a left-hand side of the scoreboard result just so that the pressed woe-is-me ~Europe hates us~ people can stop talking nonsense. I hope these songs pull through a bit.
