Earlier today, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — started our tour of Switzerland in the stunning city of Zurich and began discussing the contestants participating in Die Entscheidungsshow, the national selection for Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Today we are taking a look at “Kiss Me” by Naeman. Are we willing to pay a buck to kiss him at the kissing booth? Read on to find out…

Naeman – “Kiss Me”

“Kiss Me” reviews

Bernardo: I’ve listened to “Kiss Me” a thousand times. And no, I’m not talking about this track. This clearly gets a “generic” status from me. While Naeman’s voice seems very controlled and full of sass, the lyrical composition doesn’t follow the same trend. It’s weak and it relies on a good hook to work. I wouldn’t be surprised if this won, but I wouldn’t be happy.

Score: 6/10

Bogdan: Reductive, lyrically weak and vocally challenged, “Kiss Me” fails to impress me on any level whatsoever. Despite its supposed radio-friendliness, the track doesn’t elicit even the slightest positive emotion throughout and is instantly forgettable the moment it ends. This is fast-food music at its worst and Switzerland would be a definite NQ should they send Naeman to Lisbon.

Score: 2/10

Deban: Staying true to his street performance roots, Naeman injects much-needed life into the Swiss national final. Upbeat, sassy and sung with clear diction, “Kiss Me” approaches the contest with a different vibe. Whether this advances to the Eurovision final or not, Switzerland still needs an anthology of musically diverse entries.

Score: 7/10

Jovana: And we have this year’s favourite with teenage girls – Naeman. “Kiss Me” is just a perfect radio-friendly bubblegum pop track sung by a cute guy – and when you are 13, what else do you need? But not everyone is a teenage girl. The quality is there; it is modern and well-produced. However, I just fail to see the substance behind it.

Score: 6/10

Robyn: Go on, Swiss Bieber! “Kiss Me” is a bop and wouldn’t sound out of place in Melodifestivalen. It’s a little generic, the sort of song that could slot into any Western European national final. But if Switzerland just wants to get into the grand final, this could do it. And if Naeman can deliver some pop charisma, they could do very well.

Score: 7.5/10

William: “Bodies sweating, shoulders bare” — he’s ready. Unfortunately I’m not sure this song is going to help him grab the moment or the lady of his choice. It sounds overproduced, slightly sleazy and like a track Benjamin Ingrosso would have rejected. I appreciate the strong sense of genre, but I can’t stomach this.

Score: 4/10

This song feels unoriginal. I don’t really like the lyrics, the music is generic and the style is so american.

It’s nice… but definetly gives a “filler” vibe. Like Anton Ewald but the off brand diet version. Good spotify filler… not so great for the stage.

For what this is, it’s quite good. There are some catchy hooks, although the language is more North American than European (“Imma keep you honest”?). Since this song is actually about leaving the singer “hanging” for sex, the choreography is going to need to deliver something sexy. Something tells me that won’t be a problem for Naeman Meier. 🙂 7/10

Hmm… Switzerland once again doesn’t have a very strong selection imo. This is aswell nothing really Special, but it’s alright and I enjoy it. Not my favourite to win, but it’s okay. 6/10

It’s my favorite from the Swiss selection.

I’m not saying it’s good, just the others are garbage.

Started well but became very generic soon!! He clearly didn’t finish what he started and probably even the girl ran away when he finished. Not bad but not good either.

Sounds like a poor man’s Bruno Mars with lyrics full of clichés and nothing outstanding about it. Also I don’t hear any supposed radio-friendliness lol.
