Madame Monsieur Mercy Destination Eurovision

Tonight’s the night. After months of build-up, rising expectations and two semi-finals, France will finally stage the grand final of Destination Eurovision. You can watch it live on the Eurovision France Facebook page.

Destination Eurovision has been praised by fans for the quality of the acts. The 18 semi-finalists represented a range of different styles of music and include some very strong Eurovision contenders. The eight finalists represent the crème de la crème…but only one act can win.

We asked our readers who it should be. And after counting 5,505 votes, we have a result.

Madame Monsieur, the winners of SF2, came out on top with more than 30% of all votes. Their song “Mercy”, which tells the true story of a child refugee, has won plaudits for its emotional depth and contemporary sound.

Following on in second with around 20% of the vote is Emmy Liyana with her song “OK ou KO”. Our readers think it’s more than OK — and indeed a knockout — and awarded her 1,106 votes.

No other act managed to earn more than 1,000 votes. Lisandro (“Eva”) rounds out the Top 3.

Well, that voting was nerve-wracking. Pleasantly surprised at how well Igit performed with the international juries. I feel sorry for Emmy, she looked so disappointed (I want another Slimane/Emmy duet ASAP), but happy for Malo who conquered the French public, and delighted with Madame Monsieur’s victory over Lissandro (Lissandro, come back next year with a better song). “Mercy” is truly a risky choice, I can see it bomb at Eurovision, but at least, it really feels like a French entry (who said, “yeah, a bottom 5 entry”? :-D). Good luck to Monsieur Madame!

I agree on everything; the praise for Mercy and Ciao, and on criticizing the internet connection.

Lisandro was sooo mad! He literally left and didnt go on the stage to congratulate with the others, poo sportsmanship. Looks like his fan base didnt save him

That’s not true. You can clearly see him walk out with the others, it’s just then he is obscured – he’s too small to be seen clearly, but he’s there!

It was kinda cruel to have them all go on the stage to dance in the background while the winning artists perform their song. A congrulatory props or a hug would have sufficed, and then get them off the stage. They are all feeling all kinds of emotions and it was not cool to get them to linger around for the world to see how sad they were 🙁

It’s best to show sportsmanship rather than feel bitter about it.

Alma is so beautiful and talented. I hope she has a second chance in Eurovision a few years from now.

She’s wonderful. A great singer, and lovely and “real” to meet in person as well. She can come back any time. 🙂

She really seems to be the nicest person. And based on her favorites songs of the night, I also like her music taste, even if she hasn’t mentioned Malo’! haha

1) Madame Monsieur 2) Malo’ 3) Lisandro Mercy is by far my personal favorite, but I have doubts about it getting a good result in Lisbon. I’ve seen too many great songs gone unappreciated. Malo’ is so talented and likeable, I have no idea how he would go down, but it’s worth taking the risk. Lisandro’s song is not great, but he is so talented and such a good performer I can actually see him doing very well, and I desperately want France to get a good result in May. His chorus was totally mimed though, so I wonder how… Read more »

When will they start counting the points? I don’t understand French so I don’t know if they said it.

I believe the show is schedule to end in less than half an hour, so it won’t take much time before they start counting the points.

What a great national final! The french must be proud about it. I have the feeling that the producers don’t have a clue about how to stage both frontrunners. With “Mercy”, they still haven’t found a way to translate the message and the power of the song into visuals. With “Eva”, they tried a lot of different things at the same time and nothing really worked. Emmy was the big highlight of the night to me. She gave a way stronger performance than on the semifinal. The idea of bringing “other Emmys” to the stage was brilliant and the execution… Read more »

Yeah, Malo’s live was better than in the semi. Songwise, I really like “Ciao”, “Mercy”, “Ok ou KO” and “Rêve de gamin”, so any of these would be fine with me. (I also like Igit, but I just don’t see it at Eurovision, especially so soon after a winner like Salvador.)

Malo has just blown my mind with his performance. That could REALLY win eurovision. It ‘s so unique and cool

I really like “Rêves de gamin”, and Nassi is always performing well within himself. Nassi might have a chance of winning this. Don’t count him out yet.

Amazing production. All songs are top. Watching it very early in Sydney. Still hope Mercy will win but quite happy with any of them

There’s really only two choices: Ok ou Ko or Mercy. None of the other songs come close and, as much as I like Ciao, it probably would be polarising.

Agreed 100%. Emmy has the staging and voice, while Madame Monsieur has the message and the hype. Wonder what will happen

Max did quite well in his own song, but he was too nervous in his duet. I hope he has a good career – he deserves it. They all do. 🙂

Emmy’s performance elevated the song which was already very good. I like that her staging reflected the song superbly. I like Mercy, but felt the LED’s were going a little too much into the refugee message of the song when they should’ve focused more on the hope aspect. And while I loved Lisandro is the semi, I was honestly shocked!! He’s a good singer but they made the playback WAY too loud to the point it felt he was lip-singing the chorus. Additionally, it seemed that they really overdid it with the Eva aspect of the song. Overall Emmy should… Read more »

I really, really try to get Eva, but I cannot. He ain’t Michael Jackson. The song is generic and disposable. And bringing a stripper on stage is such a tacky touch.

Purple Mask
Guest

It was a risk, sure. But in such a competitive national final, such risks are worth taking. I really liked the risk, and Lisandro is an outstanding artist with a great career ahead of him, whatever happens tonight. 🙂

The song is about a single mother who has to work as a stripper so that she can provide for her daughter.

He has more issues with his mic/playback than the staging. It felt like a Sergiy Lazarev 2.0 with his staging in a way. If he wins, drop the staging and start from scratch because he has some potential but it seems production is having issues with multiple acts tonight.

I think this might be my favourite National Final ever. (Sorry MelFest 2015.)

There isn’t a single song in the French national final that I actually dislike. So “bravo à la France”, no matter what they choose.
