The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has journeyed to the beautiful city of Minsk to check out the 10 acts competing in Eurofest 2018. With the national final on February 16, each act is waiting in the wings for their performance.

The next entrant up for review is the super suave Alen HIT with “I Don’t Care”. What will we think about his entry? Will we care? Read on to find out!

Alen HIT – “I Don’t Care”

“I Don’t Care” reviews

Anthony: If Alen can entertain the judges with his choreography and stage presence in a tiny audition room, then he clearly has the confidence to deliver it to on a larger stage in the final. “I Don’t Care” may be a catchy, well-produced entry from Alen, but this is more of a stab in the dark for Belarus if they wanted to build on their semi-final qualifying momentum.

Score: 6/10

Chris: Thankfully Alen is good enough to deliver a strong live performance of “I Don’t Care”. Otherwise, it would be a total disaster. There’s nothing particularly new in “I Don’t Care”, but it hits the right kind of mark where, in the right circumstances, it could qualify from a Eurovision semi-final. For Belarus, that’s always a positive.

Score: 6.5/10

Lukas: This is your typical Eurovision song which would do well, maybe ten years ago. There is just nothing special about this song. It is catchy and the beat is nice to move along to, but that‘s about it. Just like the title says, “I Don’t Care” is how I feel about this song.

Score: 6.5/10

Robyn: It’s a good sign that Alen’s performance of “I Don’t Care” brought plenty of energy to the bleak live auditions studio and avoided the dreaded “spasibo”. He’s a slick performer and is very much in his comfort zone with the R&B of “I Don’t Care”. At times it does sound a little ’90s, but the overall energy lifts it beyond any looming retro shadow.

Score: 7.5/10

Sebastian: Alen’s “I Don’t Care” is a very welcome addition to a fairly tame national final. As one of the only entries designed to get you moving, its simple lyrics (whether a strategic goal or not) allows the song to transcend borders. Alen sells it strongly in his performance – a far better representation of the act. But, in reality, “I Don’t Care” is the poor man’s “Tonight Again” from 2015. Fun, upbeat, and dance-worthy — just done better before.

Score: 6.5/10

Nice start, good production, his voice sounds good. Up-beat dance song, at last. I kinda like that. It’s good for a big stage. However, I’m not sure the song is strong enough to make an impact.

I’s SO easy to poke fun due to it’s title. And it’s kind of true. Still, bonus for sassiness.

How does he expect me to care if he doesn’t care? Not a good title. The song is OK.
