With two successful shows behind it — the second live episode collected 9,687,000 viewers and an audience share of 47.7%. — Sanremo 2018 moved on to the third night.
The hours of broadcasting are endless, but they’re not lacking energy for sure! Here’s the proof:

Half of the 20 Campioni contestants — the big names from which Italy’s Eurovision 2018 artist will be chosen — performed their entries to the viewers for the second time.
Just like yesterday, the live show started with the performances of half of the Nuove Proposte, the category dedicated to newcomers, judged by televote (40%), the press centre (30%) and a demoscopic poll (30%).
Unlike last year, there were no eliminations as everyone is going to the final. These were the four artists and their songs:
- Mudimbi – Il mago
- Eva – Cosa ci salverà
- Ultimo – Il ballo delle incertezze
- Leonardo Monteiro – Bianca
A neverending list of guest performers caught viewers’ attention. Italian successful band Negramaro returned to the Sanremo stage 13 years after their debut in the competition among the Newcomers. At that time they didn’t go through to the final. Now, they came back as special guests to perform their latest single “La prima volta“.
The host and artistic director Claudio Baglioni dueted with Gino Paoli and jazzist Danilo Rea to pay homage to two extraordinary late Italian artists, Fabrizio De Andrè and Umberto Bindi, singing “La canzone del perduto amore” and “Il nostro concerto”.
But the highlight of the night was the duet between American legend James Taylor and Italian popstar Giorgia. The two sung an heartfelt rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend”.

SANREMO’S THIRD NIGHT
TOP
- Max Gazzè – La leggenda di Cristalda e Pizzomunno
- Lo Stato Sociale – Una vita in vacanza
- Ermal Meta & Fabrizio Moro – Non mi avete fatto niente
MIDDLE
- Luca Barbarossa – Passame er sale
- Enzo Avitabile & Peppe Servillo – Il coraggio di ogni giorno
- The Kolors – Frida (Mai mai mai)
BOTTOM
- Mario Biondi – Rivederti
- Giovanni Caccamo – Eterno
- Roby Facchinetti & Riccardo Fogli – Il segreto del tempo
- Noemi – Non smettere mai di cercarmi
We think you’ve now learned the lesson, but there’s always time for a quick reminder: this is not the definitive ranking of the third night. To keep us in suspense until Saturday, the organizers decided to show us just the results of ONE “voting jury” each night. For the third night it was again the turn of the voting jury poll.
Tomorrow evening, the 20 Campioni will sing their original entries together with other artists. Among the singers we’ll see on stage, several former Sanremo participants, such as Giusy Ferreri, Michele Bravi, Arisa, Paola Turci and Eurovision 1984 act Alice.
Also Scottish songwriter Midge Ure and Skin, leader of the rock band Skunk Anansie, are heading to the Ariston Theatre.
HOW WILL THE SANREMO WINNER BE PICKED?
Voting during the five evenings occurs through different combinations of four methods:
- Public televoting, carried out via landline, mobile phone, the contest’s official mobile app, and online voting.
- Press jury voting, by accredited journalists that followed the competition from the Roof Hall at the Ariston Theatre.
- A demoscopic poll, composed of a sample of 300 music fans, which voted from their homes via an electronic voting system managed by Ipsos.
- Expert jury voting, resulting from points assigned by eight personalities from the world of music, entertainment and culture.
The three voting systems will have a percentage weight so distributed:
- First, Second and Third Evening: 40% Public televoting; 30% Demoscopic poll; 30% Press jury voting
- Fourth and Fifth Evening: 50% Public televoting; 30% Press jury voting; 20% Expert jury voting
In the final part of the fifth evening, a new rank indicating the first three acts — determined by the percentage of votes obtained in this evening’s vote and those obtained in previous evenings — will be drawn up.
What do you think of the songs of Sanremo 2018? Who are you most excited for? Share your thoughts below!
Lo Stato Sociale will be another francesco but more underwhelming.
Don’t know how anyone could compare this out of tune rubbish with Francesco’s wonderful hit Occidentali’s Karma!
Ikr!!! It’s literally Chanel vs Walmart
Very apt comparison!
Lo Stato Sociale are the ones that would do the best at Eurovision.
Imo Luca Barbarossa has the best song of the season anywhere so far. Alas, he is always only ranked in the middle. Well, I can still download and listen to ‘Passarme er sale’.
I like this song a lot, too, and actually think it would do well with Eastern and Southern Juries. A bit like Gualazzi in 2011.
Lo Stato Sociale literally have the lyric ”an old woman dancing”, exactly like ”the naked ape dances”. I hope she likes the song and is not disturbing for her. I like to see her in Lisbon.
The first time I watched Meta & Moro’s performance it hasn’t caught my attention. But after getting to know the lyrics, I definitely can get it why they’re frontrunners. It’s good to see some love for Max also.
I like the lyrics, but I don’t like the way Moro half-sings/half-mumbles it through the entire song. It will be a tremendous flop in the Eurovision.
The only semi-suitable song so far is by The Kolors (the staging reminds me of Regina though)
I don’t think Moro would be a problem for everyone, but I see your point. What would worry me is that probably more people like me and Joey would only get into the song after reading the lyrics and listening to it again. Many people will just listen to it once and maybe the song wouldn’t call much attention. I like The Kolors (and as I posted before, I would bet that they would be favorites if all Europe could vote) but I believe they’re too indie for Sanremo. That’s what happens when you have a traditional festival as your… Read more »
Same. I was slightly underwhelmed when I first heard it on Tuesday but then after my 3rd listen I have been HOOKED and played it a couple dozen times already lol
In Eurovision the general public only has 1 listen, so the song should stand out or be ultra-instant.
Annalisa had better entries over the years, this one will do the Francesca Michielin’s 16th place if Italy chooses it for the ESC. It’s a decent song, but there’s no catchy hook, it’s not memorable enough.
Lo Stato Sociale is seen by many as Francesco Gabbani rip-off, a pop rock song with quirky staging (+ Coldplay’s ”The Hardest Part” music video comes to mind). This will be the Italian version of a Sebastian Tellier type of entry (France 2008).
Does Italy hate the Kolors or are they, hard-core traditionalists? Why do they keep ending up in the middle?
The lyrics are awful and bland. And “mai mai mai mai” (the chorus, trans. “never never never never”) is annoying. But probably Robyn is right though, they will top the televote.
Agree with you. But I think it’s a decent option for eurovision. if the kolors are chosen then the song will be in english since that’s the language in which they wrote the song first. So the lyrics and hook will be bland and annoying in english or something completely different, problem solved for me LOL
Amazing Sanremo this year,Baglioni brought real italian artists. Hoping for Ermal and Fabrizio to win and represent Italy in Lisbon.
They keep robbing The Kolors!!! Italy what the hell are you doing ? Italy are literally acting dumb this year. They have no taste at all this year
It”s the theme for this year
I agrih, the Kolors have the catchiest song.
The yellow zone is not that bad…the press is usually very unkind with singers or bands that come from talent shows
