WATCH: Blanche performs “City Lights” as she takes home prizes at both the MIA and D6bel music awards

She’s the Eurovision 2017 singer who brought Belgium its third consecutive top ten finish. And late last month, Blanche emerged as one of the big winners on the Belgian music scene, snagging gongs in both Wallonia and Flanders.

French language broadcaster RTBF revealed the D6bel Music Awards winners on 26 January. Days later, on 30 January, the Music Industry Awards (MIAs) victors became known in Flanders.

The “City Lights” singer was nominated in five categories across both ceremonies — Breakthrough, Hit of the Year, Biggest Hit, Best Pop and Biggest Revelation.

In the end she secured all but one of the five prizes. The De6bels saw her leave with trophies for Biggest Revelation and Best Pop while she won the Breakthrough and Biggest Hit gongs at the MIAs.

Fittingly, Blanche had the honour of closing the MIAs. She took the opportunity to debut a slightly re-worked version of her breakout hit while also rocking a new sartorial look.

The victories come mere weeks after Blanche joined Portugal’s Salvador and Bulgaria’s Kristian Kostov on the EBBA winners’ list. Despite all her success, the songstress remains grounded. Writing on Facebook after the D6Bels, she expressed her surprise and thanked fans for their support.

Blanche wasn’t the only Eurovision alum to receive nominations at the Belgian ceremonies.

Eurovision 2016’s Laura Tesoro was nominated for two MIAs — Best Pop and Best Solo Female — but she missed out on both.

It was a similar story for Eurovision 2015’s Loïc Nottet. At the D6bels, he was nominated in five categories — Best Solo Male, Best Pop, Biggest Hit, Best Concert, and Best Clip — but went home empty handed.

We doubt, however, that Loïc has much time to sob about it. The “Rhythm Inside” popstar just finished his Selfocracy tour. He performed in nine countries and made a  YouTube documentary about the experience. Meanwhile “Million Eyes” reached Gold status in Belgium and Diamond status in France. And of course, he also picked up an MTV EMA in November.

The Eurovision links didn’t end with Belgium’s most recent triad of acts. Max Colombie, the 2005 runner-up of Eurosong For Kids (Belgium’s now defunct national final for Junior Eurovision) also picked up some silverware. The artist who is now known as Oscar and the Wolf won three MIAs — Best Pop, Best Live act and Best Solo Male.
