Lithuania, Ieva Zasimauskaite, 2

Lithuania’s Eurovizijos atranka 2018 continued with the remaining 12 qualifiers from the four heats — including a heavyweight clash featuring all four heat winners of Ieva Zasimauskaite, Saules kliošas, Greta Zazza and Monika Marija. Let’s get ready to rumble!

And it was the first heat winner Ieva Zasimauskaite who went on to win tonight’s show as another six acts will join last week’s qualifiers into the semi-final: Monika Marija, Saules kliošas, The Roop, Marija and Gabrielius Vagelis.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Živile Gedvilaite, Audrius Petrauskas, Agne Michalenkovaite, Ruta Loop, Elizabeth Olshey and last year’s finalist Greta Zazza.

Ahead of tonight’s show, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — had plenty to say about Ieva. Wiwiblogger Natalie said:

Awwww, Ieva! This girl seriously knows how to build a ballad. I really love this song because it’s pure sweetness. It doesn’t have any glitter or fireworks, there are no gimmicks to convey that this is a beautiful song. It just stands on its own young feet as a really pretty emotional ballad. And yes, it is sung incredibly wonderfully. I’m not sure it could win, but I really wouldn’t mind this representing Lithuania at all.

Eurovizijos atranka 2018 – Show six running order

Živile Gedvilaite – “Melody”

Audrius Petrauskas – “In My Bones”

Ruta Loop – “Positive Thoughts”

Marija – “This Love”

The Roop – “Yes, I Do”

Elizabeth Olshey – “Bejausmis”

Monika Marija – “The Truth”

Gabrielius Vagelis – “The Distant”

Ieva Zasimauskaite – “When We’re Old”

It would be a good surprise if they finished the selection and sent Ieva to Eurovision.

Ieva doesn’t sound good live. I’m a singer and to me her singinging sounds really messy. It seems like she doesn’t really have a singing technique and focuses more on showing fake emotions.

I like lots of the songs in Lithuania’s national selection this year. Ieva’s song is the best she’s ever had and gabrelius’s song is still giving me some good vibes. I’m quite happy that monika and marija qualified but I don’t get the Roop at all. It would have been nice to have Elizabeth in the semi final. But overall my winner of the selection has to be kotryna, she would slay at Eurovision!

Kotryna – American music is not interesting for Europe.

To all the Lithuanians out there, don’t listen to these people who are trying to say that Paula, Greta, Ieva or Marija should win. They all suck and the people who say the opposite just want to fool you or don’t know anything about music. Trust me I know music. They all have really typical songs and wouldn’t make it to the final in the Eurovision. KOTRYNA, THE ROOP AND GABRIELIUS are the ones who could represent your country. Kotryna is an amazing, proffesional vocalist who knows how to entertain. The Roop has a really beuatiful, memorable song with a… Read more »

Lmao you music snobs are hilarious. We’re aware they have typical songs but that’s not necessary a bad thing. How did not so typical Fusedmarc do last year huh? I bet you defended them because their song was sooo original. Paula and Ieva will easily qualify if they win. 1 2 3 is a good, catchy pop song and with great performance it could do very well. Kotryna’s song is basic and not groundbreaking, it’s also too American to do well at Eurovision, music expert.

I didn’t like Fusedmarc. I wanted Kotryna to go last year.

Yeah, all the Lithuanians will listen to YOU, because your opinion is what matters the most. Sure. Though I love “The Distant” and I like that you like it…

I really like Ieva’s song and performance. It’s very rare for a performer to be able to captivate without anything on stage. But it’s just her and her song and darkness and a single spotlight, yet somehow I’m captivated. I honestly think it’s a beautiful song, she has great emotion during it, and the juries will eat it up in Lisbon.

Well, this show was really stonger than previous week’s. Had Greta performed last week, she would have qualified to the semi-final without doubt. I wonder, why LRT decided to make one show with all those who were winners of previous 4 heats and other favourites while the other show consisted of various borderline qualifiers, joke acts and there were basically no decent songs 😀

Did you really want Greta to make it to the next round? I’m happy she’s out cause her singing technique was really bad. She doesn’t even know how to belt high notes! She’s lucky to even make it so far in this contest cause her song is really bad too.

It’s very very weird how Marija was dead last with the juries, bur first with the audience. (also, what kind of stage name is Marija? It’s just the slavic version of the most common female name in the world…) Also, Saules kliosas changed their song title. Ieva’s song is a very safe entry, but it sounds nice. I still have no idea who will win this show, but I would be fine with her. Two questions: 1) There are apparently three shows left, but the semifinal (which features all remaining contestants, which is a bad idea) is next week; What… Read more »

It looks like the juries have priority over the televoters in the event of a tie throughout the entire show, not just the final.

I somehow expected Lithuania to do s.th. like that. Getting rid of Greta and voting for so much cr*p. Greta should try next year for another country, she’s too good for Lithuania…

That’s your opinion. I think she is a great performer – maybe not the best singer, but she makes up for that on stage – and that the song was way more listenable than the other bunch of the Lithuanian NF…

up! You need to do some research about vocals and music cause Greta is nowhere near good. I don’t even consider her an artist. She’s an awful performer.

I really would appreciate if people in here were able to accept and respect how other ones feel s.th.
I acknowledge that Greta is not the best live singer, but for me, she makes it up with her performing skills.
Again: MY opinion, MY perception, MY feelings, MY disappointment. That doesn’t make me or you right or wrong, that’s just a matter of perception. Please respect other peoples’ reactions even if they don’t correspond with yours and don’t write that they “suck” like you did in your other post. That’s just rude, egocentric and indecent.

Well I said these artists suck cause that’s what I truly think. I respect your opinion, but if a singer can’t perform well live, they’ll never make it far in the competition. Greta should get a good vocal coach and practice and if she’s not willing to improve (which is probably true cause she’s just as bad as last year) then it means that she’s not even passionate about singing. You’re just overexaggerating by saying that Greta is too good for Lithuania.

I feel like she’s better than most of the songs in eesti laul and supernova, but that doesn’t exactly make a difference. I thought most people liked her song and I’m surprised to see that people are unhappy with the result. Also shocked that Greta zazza didn’t make it through

You can count Ieva as 2nd, because that girl who won the televoting yesterday did it not because Lithuanians love her song but because her BFF is social-media influencer and told her teenager fans to vote for Marija

Lukas

So Marija got a 0 from jury, but 20 minutes into the broadcast and a thousand euros later, she gets 12 points from televote and progresses to the semi-final. Nothing fishy and worth fixing by LRT here. (If you’re not familiar with Nacionaline Eurovizijos Atranka’s specifics, the shows are not live, they are taped on Tuesdays, and jury’s verdict is semi-publicly-known on Wednesdays, so Marija just bought a couple of Instagram’s influencers here in Lithuania to promote her.) Also, the announcer mentioned some “very important news to come on Monday”. Last time after these words, they pulled off a wildcard… Read more »

Well, Marija has a best friend Igle, who is Lithuanian X Factor winner and who has a lot of influencers, and she encouraged all her fans (that’s basically 12 year old teengirls) to vote for Marija. What can LRT do about that ? Of course, the jury votes couldn’t be revealed so early but it wouldn’t change anything since Marija would still know that she got 0 pts from jury and her BFF would still make posts about voting for her… In any case, LRT will start doing live shows from next weekend, we will see whether not knowing jury… Read more »

Some money of the televoting is given for the mobile network operators, while the other part is said to be used for the performance in Lissbon, so don’t be so pesimistic. Also, if they take some money from teenage girls’ who vote not for the best song, but because their Instagram diva told to vote for her best friend, that is actually very good

Marija is a cheater. She only cares about her own career. She definetly doesn’t care about winning The Eurovision Song contest. She just wants to go there so she gets 3 minutes of fame.

Predictable, she’s lame and so is her song. Saules Kilosas (especially since it’s in Lithuanian) and Kotryna have great songs that sound fresh, I’d love one of them to win, sadly that’s not gonna happen. Lithuania always makes terrible choices
