Ukraine’s Vidbir 2018 has proven to be one of the most competitive national finals of the year. Over the two semi-finals, new and familiar faces took to the stage to try and win one of just six spots in the final.
Ahead of next week’s final, we want to know who you think should win the show and represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2018.
In the second semi-final, it was Melovin, Tayanna and Kadnay who advanced. They join Laud, The Erised and Vilna from the first semi-final. All six acts will perform again in the final, on February 24.
You can watch all the semi-final performances again below. Simply click on each artist’s song title to watch. Then, you can find the
Ukraine Vidbir 2018 — Finalists
Kadnay — “Beat of the Universe”
Tayanna — Lelya
The Erised — Heroes
Laud — Waiting
Vilna — Forest Song
Melovin — Under the Ladder
Those are your six finalists in Ukraine. Our poll will be open until the day of the final, so make sure to get your votes in before it closes. Remember: you can vote for as many acts as you want. But you can only vote once, so make it count!
[polldaddy poll=9941601]You can also let us know who your favourite is down in the comments section below.
As always, the result of Vidbir 2018 will be decided by a split vote between the jury and the public. In the event of a tie — as has happened in both 2016 and 2017 — the public vote will break the tie. The show airs from 18:00CET on February 24.
Melovin is better! I hope I see him in Lisbon!
I want THE HARDKISS)))
Only MELOVIN!!
European viewer, MELOVIN is worthy of respect for me, because this guy fights for his dream! without money and sponsors and he does not have a producer. All that he achieved, only thanks to his work and talent. He has a desire, he has a dream and his idea. People love and support him for this, his main slogan is not to give up and go to your dream. Tayanna this paid project in Ukraine, the big communications in show business and money. She has a large team of pr-managers and sponsors. Ukrainians vote for the idea in their choice,… Read more »
I didn’t know any of the artist prior listening to all songs, “Under the ladder” is so much better as a song than “lelya”. I don’t know what exactly is going on in Ukrainian showbiz for people to like Tayana and hate Melovin so much, but for a person who is unbiased and unaware of their history, just judging by a song, I can’t bring myself to listen to lelya second time, it is brutal.
Ukraine please send Melovin. I would definitely vote for him
Tayanna 100%!!
Though I think that Melovin will win unfortunately ??- I think he’s a wannabe and all the fan girls will vote for him :/
For me:
1. Tayanna
2. The Erised
3. Laud
4. Kadnay
5. Vilna
6. Melovin
I really hope that Ukraine will send Tayanna or The Erised to Lisbon
Well, the guys I’ve been rooting for had better song last year. Can’t say I see clear winner here, but there’ll be a mess done by juries, trying to fix Melo-fans.
Overall by names expected a bit more, but have got kinda melfest’17 returnees vibe this time here.
Apparently Melovin is singing in English? Literally can’t understand a word
Ukrainian finalists are awesome. I like them all.
Neither Melovin, nor Tayanna can win Eurovision. So I want to see Tayanna in contest. Just to dance with her ???
Forest Song is amazing
People , you must here this. Wonderful
Probably top 10 in the final
It’s like ethno on steroids, seems fake to me.
My favorites are Vilna and The Erised. These are two high-quality songs performed by interesting personalities, and not the standard Eurovision fast food like Melovin and Tayanna.
Our only hope now are that the juries will somehow save this. It was apparent that the televoting was dominated unproportionallly by teen girls voting ‘en masse’ for the local “teen idol” Melovin, well listen here Ukraine: Europe will not give a damn who he is! It would be ashame if some local amateur gets the ticket based on irrational voting rather than the act that has a ready and professional package for Eurovision: Tayanna. It doesn’t look hopeful for Ukraine now, Tayanna should get the ticket to Lisbon, it shouldn’t even be a question since she’s above the rest,… Read more »
Only Melovin worthy of victory! We all believe in his victory! Melovinators always with you on the same wavelength!
I don’t know about your country idols, but after listening to all acts, Tayanna was more outstanding for me…. good luck
Melovin or Tayanna for me.
If its Melovin: he needs a revamp and improve his diction so that I can understand what he’s singing about
If Its Tayanna: maybe a bilingual version of the song. So long as it doesn’t ruin the quality of the song when translated in English.
Kadnay or Laud, I don’t like Tayanna and Melovin, both seems very pretentious, but not so original at all..
MeloWIN
I am sad that Kvitka didn’t get to compete. 🙁 That song would rock this NF. Or, if Kvitka was out, why not Syla taking it’s place? Either would be my 1st. I’m afraid I don’t feel Lelya as much thus far.
It’s still better than “Mirdvukkogfdgjj” or whatever Melovin says in the chorus. It would be cool to see this guy representing Ukraine, but is this really the song?
All the songs from that album were released earlier than September 1st.
Melovin thinks that “oh-oh-oh” in the chorus is enough. *sigh*
The juries and others must tell him about proper pronunciation if they gonna let him win.
I love both Tayanna and Melovin, I would like to see both of them at Eurovision… but considering how other countries will be sending slow ballads with deep messages, I think TAYANNA could do specially well in Lisbon.
Vilna-Forest song would be a distant third place.
I still cannot believe ILLARIA didn’t make it to the final…
Finally, I hope to see KAZKA one day at Eurovision, they have great potential.
What score you predict for Ukraine if Melovin or Tayanna represent them in May ?
Either would probably qualify just because Ukraine is one of the countries with a lot of luck in televote. Still, it’s unlikely that either of them would reach top 10. Melovin’s pronunciation of English would put him in odds with the jury, while Tayanna could do a bit better for using national language.
Melovin – probably 20th-23rd in GF
Tayanna – probably 14th- 17th in GF
As often, this guess could be way off, with either of them being a NQ or winning the contest. Eurovision can be very unpredictable and that’s the part of what makes it fun.
I don’t think pronunciation is that important. There are lots and lots of people who don’t speak English watching Eurovision and sitting on judging panel as well. Last year Illaria was among Ukrainian jury, and she doesn’t speak English. Think of Balkan and Caucasian countries, for example.
I don’t like Melovin, but I think pronunciation isn’t a big issue.
I am from the Balkans and I can differ proper English from mumbled one. A lot of young people today can speak English quite well, or at least understand it. As for Illaria, it’s unimportant, as her song was in Ukrainian anyway.
Sure, his chances in televote might not suffer a lot cause of his pronunciation, but his score with the juries certainly will.
I want Pur:Pur
The Erised is my favorite that song is so good. I also wouldn’t mind if they send Vilna or Kadnay. Tayanna & Melovin are sooo overrated..
I’m between Tayanna and Melovin. Either of them will a good job in Lisbon!
Melovin, The best show. And his voice, amazing. I listen to him on re-play all day.
Melovin have the best song and performance!
What the fck is happening with this poll. The best song is at the last place.
People are voting for the personality, not the songs 😀
OT: Wht do you think, is this real Elena Foureira’s song for Eurovision? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoVJfpFyEJU
No, it’s not, haha, I know it now, sorry 😀
Melovin’s song is the one that would do best at Eurovision and he is such a good performer, I wasn’t a fan of the studio version but loved his performance and been replaying and listening to it nonstop, the only negative thing that I can say about it is his pronunciation but I think most people in Europe don’t care about lyrics or what the song says as long as it’s catchy.
Villa is my favorite , her life performance was one of the-best I have seen
LAUD- by far.
Is there anyone else who likes it?
I love the lyrics, and his voice.
I actually love it and feel like he would be a better choice than Tayanna and especially Melovin. But I guess we’re the only ones haha
Nope, one more here! 😉
It’s brilliant!!
One more here 😀
Yes i love it too. Finally i found person who understand me?
Mélovin
I voted for Tayanna -may be one of the small minority who prefer this song over her last one. Melovin also has a good song, but his pronunciation is really bad in the chorus, and unfortunately it does put me off from liking the song more. …
Vidbir is unnecessarily so overhyped this year. Even Tayanna’s song is nothing special, and nothing remarkable. She still has the best song out of the 6, though.
in a perfect world it would be kazka but out of this bunch… tayanna? backing track is a little aida vedishcheva 60’s soviet pop why not
Tayanna. I actually feel like it’s a fact now that she has the best song out of the 6 like come on 😛 (Dont take this seriously)
Kadnay, Tayanna, The Erised and Vilna are all of my faves! I’m surprised the Wiwijury did not review these songs. If they did, I must have missed that! This year for Vidbir is a great year, good luck Ukraine!
Melovin should represent Ukraine. If not him then Kadnay. Tayanna should have a respectable third spot. I really liked her song on Spotify but was very disappointed with staging. I’m aware that people can completely change staging before Eurovision, but Sundays performance shows her lack of taste or commitment to the competition.
In what way did it show lack of taste? The staging made sense, this is a really happy, jumpy, dancy song.
I’d be happy with either Melovin or Tayanna (if only they could send both songs 😛 ), and then Forrest Song would be a distant third.
The only one I like is Forest Song. What an overhyped selection.
Tayanna is amazing
Tayanna’s song is absolutely sensational. The song builds beautifully, has form and texture and is super fresh and exciting. Her performance is punchy and vivacious. There is no other country that I going to have a sound like that and its guaranteed top 5 in the final.
I enjoy Melovin’s song a lot as well as its much better than most countries but I feel that if it wasn’t for his extensive teenage girl fanbase, it wouldnt be as much of a head to head as it will be in the final.
My opinion – They should send Melovin.
Tayanna’s song this year is … meh. Sorry. Didn’t like that ‘showy’ performance at all lol She thinks she is Beyonce or what? lol I don’t even like Beyonce
Both Tayanna and Melovin have forgettable songs imo.
Victoria, my thought exactly ”look at this Beyonce wannabe” 😛
And I love Beyonce <3
Wow, all the songs are great. I really can’t decide which one is my favorite, I love them all.
Vidbir is probably the strongest national selection in 2018. It deserves more coverage, sadly all the selection are at the same time this year.
Tayanna, but she still needs to work on her perfomance. Europe doesn’t want to see her Titicaca.
I like all the songs but Tayanna and Mélovin are the best. Either one would become my new No.1.
This national final is the best I’ve heard all season! All of them could make the top 10 at Eurovision.
My top 6:
1st – Tayanna – Lelya (9.2/10)
2nd – The erised – Heroes (8.9/10)
3rd – Vilna – Forest song (8.5/10)
4th – Kadnay – Beat of the universe (8/10)
5th – LAUD – waiting (7.7/10)
6th – Melovin – Under the ladder (7.5/10)
Well, I can’t spot a winner in this selection. LAUD is the only one that stands out for me but I’m so surprised to see that it got so underrated.
Tayanna or Melovin. They have the best songs and performances.
Ukrainefest >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Melfest
My top 6:
1. Laud 10/10 amazing voice and outstanding song – won’t make it apparently. Would be crazy to see him in Lisbon though
2. Kadnay 8/10 (what a performance!)
3. Tayanna 7/10 (would be fine with her this year, after last year’s dull song)
4. The Erised 6/10
5. Melovin 5/10 (2017 was better)
6. Vilna — Forest Song 1/0
Finally whom I agree with! Greetings Pablo! I am also team Laud.
Heyyy, nice, Nick!
Fingers crossed, you never know, it could happen.. (probably he would need something catchy for the eye to stand out in a field of visually very “active” performances..
Personally I adore the simplicity of the whole thing and prefer to enjoy it as it is..)
Melovin for sure!
