Saara Aalto is making waves in the Eurovision world. Two weeks ago she released “Monsters” and Finland shortened drastically in the Eurovision 2018 winner odds. Last week she dropped “Domino” and took over the wiwibloggs Twitter account to answer your questions. Now, her final UMK song, “Queens”, has just dropped ahead of schedule.

Queens — Saara Aalto

Saara has been busy promoting “Queens” this week by sharing some of the queens who have inspired her. She has shared her queens on Twitter with the hashtag #SaarasQueens.

The list includes the likes of Michelle Obama, Princess Diana, Oprah and Dana International, but also her partner Meri and her mother. Saara has no shortage of strong women to look up to.

Saara shows off a variety of looks in the “Queens” video. She’s going blonde, ginger and even rocking her natural dark hair throughout the colourful music video.

Her mix of light and dark could easily pass as the four queens in a deck of playing cards but Saara is not playing — this has as much quality as her first two entries. She sits upon a throne with shirtless male guards flanking her. Saara Aalto is a queen and she knows it!

Lyrically, “Queens” follows the same scaffold as “Monsters” as Saara puts the past behind her, puts the spade in the ground and building her own world. Saara makes the rules in her world so that she can break them. She ain’t scared no more and she’s doesn’t need anybody else — she’s her own queen (and ours too).

“Queens” lyrics — Saara Aalto

You and I, we’re the first to decide
Now it’s gone, and it’s over and done
Break the walls, put the spade in the ground
‘Cause the new kind of world has begun

(Pre-Chorus)
Brick by brick we put the past behind us
This is the way we want it
This is the way we build it
Bit by bit we let the love define us
This is the way we want it

(Chorus)
We are the queens of the brand new nation
Now it’s all for us
Light it, light it up
We make the rules so that we can break them
Now it’s all for us
Light it, light it up
Woah-oah-oah
It’s all for us
This is the way we want it
We are the queens of the brand new nation
Now it’s all for us
Light it, light it, light it up

You and I, on the ball to a line
Carry on, we are strong, we are one
Take the crown, we stand our ground
Only light, this is where we belong

(Pre-Chorus)

(Chorus)

Bit by bit we let the love define us
This is the way we want it

(Chorus)

What do you think of “Queens”? Is this the royal flush Saara has been keeping up her sleeve? Which of her UMK entries should win? Let us know in the comments below!

Omg…. cheap, generic, unoriginal songs.
Just a compilation of many number 1 songs we heard in the past.

And people say this is gonna win!

“Tonight i am gonna make friends with the monsters living under my bed”???

i think we already heard this from Rihannas “Monster”.
Have your own ideas you are going to Eurovision.

Just the name alone Monsters intrigues me.
Should they go with a Ballad or a dance song.
Most of the wiiners in the last 5 years have won with Ballads.
AS to it Dominoes being repetitive, many said the same thing as Australias ‘SOUND OF SILENCE” and it almost won 2016.

For me
1.Domino (only with this song Finland have chance for TOP 10 in final).
2.Queens
3.Monster
But I think winner wili be Monster.

This is the most Saara-styled of the three tracks, and it’s a good song.

Monsters is still the best track though.

I’m afraid she is getting more credit from all the media than all of her three songs actually deserve. Nothing special in any of those songs. Finland might be one of the favorites right now (according to bet companies) but it will change very soon. Just watch!

She would not qualify with this. Definitely the weakest of the three. None of her songs are a winner for me but I think Domino would get her the best placing. Possibly top ten?

She is a great singer, and I can imagine her being an amazing performer. I must say these songs are good, well-produced ( even a bit overproduced for my taste) and I realize why everyone loves them, even though I wouldn’t downloading any of them ( #CelebratingDiversirtyofTaste). Nevertheless I don’t see any of them as the winner, given that IMO we already have better songs than these among the ones that are released.

Having said that, I’d say Monsters has the highest chance to qualify for the final and maybe get into top 10(not my top 10 though). Queens is the weakest one in my opinion.

Saara came 2nd in Finlands Got Talent, 2nd in Voice of Finland, 2nd in X Factor UK, 2nd in all her Eurovision national selection attempts, she will probably even come 2nd in her semi final.

In the Eurovision final however, when it matters most,

SHE
WILL
WIN!

I think the point being made is that she was favorite to win and then when this song was released, she got dumped to 5th within a few hours. Of course that’s kinda ridiculous because they clearly rate the other two songs high enough for her to win, and one of them could still be the song. But most of the bookies have decided that this song wouldn’t win and lengthened the odds the instant it came out. That’s not the same scenario as Salvador because he started around 6th and climbed, only becoming favorite in the week of the… Read more »

I didn’t see her in the top spot but I’ll take your word for it, even then a 4 place drop isn’t dramatic.

Important to note is 3 of the countries above her haven’t chosen their songs yet either, and could similarly drop, 1 of which hasn’t released any songs at all. I have no idea why Bulgaria is in 1st.

She has been second for the past few weeks ever since Monsters and took the top spot yesterday. Falling to 5th in a few hours is quite dramatic as going from 5-1 to 12-1 is quite a big change in such a short space of time which makes a huge change of opinion from the release of this song. Dont forget that she maintains the 5th based on the amount of bets placed in the past few weeks already. Its actually similar to Poland last year when they became favorite to win when Maragarets song was released. When she didnt… Read more »

Oh and the reason Bulgaria is top is based on their history of the past 2 years, and the fact they confirmed they are using the same format as last year (professional artist on a record label with staging thought up in advance). Of course that can all change when the actual song comes on, but on paper Bulgaria look like a good choice after a 4th and 2nd and using the same format once more. Sweden and Australia are also high based on history, and Estonia are high based on one entrant (so again similar to Poland, bookies are… Read more »

lmao Finland dropped from 1st place in the odds after the release of the last song. To be really honest, none of those songs scream winner to me. I’m not saying that she is pretending to be someone else. I’m talking about the songs itself, they just sound so manufactured that I doubt that live would make it better. I feel that those were written just to win Eurovision (or at least get a good result) and that turns me off. It’s like their focus is to win win win and I don’t like those entries who are too confident about it. This is where I say that it lacks authenticity or say genuineness to make it clear. Meh….all that Saara thing is too exaggerated. I don’t find any of the 3 songs goos in particular or even worthy enough to re-listen. No. Have nothing against. Reacting on all these details about her doesn’t mean I have something against the singer. There are literally hundreds of singers fighting for ESC crown, but there are no such details about them on Wiwi like we get it here about Saara. Saara’s twitter?! Well, other singers have it too. Saara’s staging?! Well, other singers have plans too. Etc.

One thing that makes Saara special is her absolute enthusiasm for the contest and dedication. Saara also made it to the Xfactor final in the UK so she is kind of known and is a fighter from under dog to champion, this makes her interesting and maybe we care a little more about her as she has had sucsess in the UK. Monster also has reached 88 in the uk iTunes chart- ok not so significant – but a worthy mention! Saara also promotes herself well and her style of music appeals to a great many Eurovision fans. Exactly, none of her songs are winner material. But Finland had just dropped from #1 to #3. I presume a bigger drop is expected soon. In other news, Czech Republic have reached the Top 5 in the odds, with “Lie to Me” being #5 on the list.

Right now, the Top 5 in the odds, looks like this:

4. Russia
5. Czech Republic

“You have probably had the experience of hearing a new song and not caring for it much at first, but after hearing it a number of times, you find that you really do enjoy the song and catch yourself humming it when you least expect to.

This phenomenon is one example of the mere exposure effect. Basically, the more you see or hear something, you more you like it.”

It’s different and might stand out and is my favourite of the 3 songs, it’s not as good as I was hoping the last song would be. These songs remind me of early Gaga and a little bit of Kesha, I think doing that style is fine but could do with sounding a little more modern and possibly a little sleeker. In my opinion, this is by far the entry that has the biggest chances to score higher in the final. It has the biggest cross-over, is more adequate for a live show, has a big finale and could be jury and a crowd pleaser, if well staged, and gives Saara’s vocals the best opportunities to shine. Could be the Moldavia’s Sunset Projekt of the year. However, my personal favorite is Monster, but I think would have less chances to succeed well.
