Waylon the world can wait Netherlands eurovision 2018

We have already listened to the first two potential Dutch songs for Eurovision 2018. And today, Waylon debuted the eagerly anticipated third track “The Word Can Wait”.

Waylon “The World Can Wait” Live

On tonight’s episode of De Wereld Draait Door, the former Common Linnet unveiled yet another country  ballad. “The World Can Wait” sees the crooner sing about focusing on what’s important in life. As he tells us multiple times during the chorus, “the world can wait”.

With “Back Together” dropping on Friday and “Outlaw In ‘Em” arriving yesterday, we’ve now heard three of the five possible songs for Lisbon. That’s two country ballads and a rock number. So far, “Outlaw In ‘Em” seems to have been the most popular with the studio audience.

However, Waylon has yet to give us any clues as to whether he’s already performed his Eurovision entry or not.

“Outlaw In ‘Em”  media reaction

While fans seem to be behind Waylon’s second release, the national media is less enamoured.

The press were particularly unhappy with his decision to go rock. This morning’s Algemeen Dagblad claimed the song would be suicide on the Eurovision stage. The newspaper feels that Eurovision fans would hide behind their rainbow coloured curtains after hearing it.

Apparently, it would clash with the feeling of togetherness that most winning Eurovision entries have. Clearly the writers at Algemeen Dagblad have forgotten about Lordi who won the contest for Finland with their rock entry “Hard Rock Hallelujah”.

What do you think about the third Dutch song? Which is your favourite so far? And what do you think of the media’s reaction? Let us know in the comments below.

I don’t care, I love Outlaw in’ em!

We have not heard the last two songs, but so far I am totally in love w/ Outlaw. The intro is going to grab people by the throats. No bathroom breaks during this song I assure you. We’ll have to wait and see how it preforms, but it will definitely stand out from the rest. It’s still a bit country, something Europe expects from the Netherlands. But also a whole lot of rock-and-roll, something we’ve never sent to ESC.

If the dutch media doesn’t like Outlaw in ’em that will probarbly be the best reason to pick the song.In Holland we don’t have a good view on what European televoters would like.I get sick and tired of people on social media giving their opinion when they don’t even know who won the last couple of years or how the voting takes place.

Agreed. And I get the feeling the general response to Outlaw has been great!
Curious to see (hear) tonight’s song, but I’m rooting for Outlaw.

@Weißbrot – ”And all the weird Songs from semi 2 are gonna qualify…. Like Serbia, Moldova, Georgia ,Montenegro, Romania, Malta… And I as a German will have the honor to vote for this crapfest, thx lol.”

You almost always offend in your comments.
It is so obvious you are a reckless teenager.

As Belgian my preference goes to the first but Mike get rid of that Markus Riva adoration. He can not sing 🙂 #Suddenlightsfan

I had such high hopes for this because judging from the title and putting it in the middle, I thought this was gonna be the one. If this turns out to be the one, I am really underwhelmed. In fact, upon first listening to it, I am inclined to go back to “Outlaw in ’em” and I am saying this as a sucker for country ballads. As expected, I’m all for the message of the song, but I am definitely missing the winning vibe I was hoping for (expecting).

What all of his performances have got in common though: He is a first class singer and performer, a real musician, so there’s that.

“Outlaw In ‘Em” is the best. And with any song Waylon will be my #1. Love his voice and mysic style and not happy with 2018 songs yet…

I just don’t get the Netherlands’ obsession with country music…

“Outlaw in ‘Em” is probably the best song, but in an appropriate venue. The Eurovision stage in Lisbon hardly seems like the place. It just seems disingenuous and corny.

Holland actually isn’t that into country, but some of our best artists (Ilse DeLange, Douwe Bob, Waylon) just happen to be country singers. And the ones who aren’t don’t want to go to Eurovision 🙂

These artists are top-notch, I am glad for each and every one of them. 😀

Hehe one of the reasons I like the Dutch songs. They usually have good country songs (and they stand out nicely from the typical heard of Eurovision pop songs).

It’s a beautiful song, but also very predictable. This would be a safe choice. Knowing Waylon, i don’t think he will pick this song. If he would, i’d be disappointed. Still, i would support him. Surprise us tomorrow or Friday please

He just does a shameless promotion of his new cd. I wont hear any of the songs untill they announce which one he chooces.

Well, who would hesitate to do it when it’s allowed or even supported by broadcaster. Even changing format can’t be a solution when the announced artist can go like Tayanna (in Vidbir 2018) did when asked to pick the best song to submit from her EP.

Another good song! However, it’s my least favourite for now. It gets repetitive and monotonous. I like the message. Fingers crossed the last 2 songs are the best!

I really think this is the one now after listening to all of them back to back.
This is truly the best. Go Waylon!

I appreciate what he’s doing. He is a true artist, sticking to his own weapons, and he really delivers what is expected of him.
That being said, I consider “The world can wait” as the weakest song by now. “Outlaw In ‘Em” took me in much more and is my #1 of the yet released songs…

So, people who don’t share your taste are accused of having no music feeling?
Well, I don’t like it either. The beginning is promising, but soon the song gets very repetitive and brings nothing new anymore

Initially, really loving it! I expected nothing much from Waylon this year because I liked Common Linnets as a duet. But this is really beautiful!!!

Not bad, but kinda repetitive and unimpresive. I hope that’s not the song.
So far:
1. Outlaw in Em
2. Back Together
3. The World Can Wait

This is still a no for me… The 2nd one was the best, but none is really as good as y’all say… He will probably qualify with any of them, because the 2nd semi isn’t as competitive, but he normally shouldn’t!

Actually when I think about it… The semis are ballanced so badly! Promising Songs/countries in the 1st semi: Austria,Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Bulgaria, Israel, Armenia, Azerbaijan… Who do we got in the 2nd semi? Australia, Russia (maybe..), Denmark, Hungary… That’s actually it. All the good ones are going to be in the 1st semi… What a mess!

So true! 1st semi will be super competitive and some of the good songs unfortunately won’t make it thorough.

I don’t think Serbia, Moldova, Montenegro and Malta are going to qualify.
Semi 2 still have got countries in it that have done really well in the previous years, as Sweden, Russia, Hungary, Romania (although I don’t think The Humans will qualify), Australia, Netherlands and Norway.
I think semi 2 will be stronger.

I’m sure this will be the one. Waylon has a personal connection to it (it’s about his girlfriend who suffered from burnout), it’s quite commercial, and it even has a modulation.

I don’t like it though, I was already sick of it after the first chorus.

So far these songs are so bad, why is everyone pretending that they’re something they’re not? The singing is flat and the songs go no where.

Goodness gracious, if Lights and Shadows was a borderline qualifier what makes people think this will qualify for sure.
