Mendez Everyday Melodifestivalen 2018

We already know the eight direct finalists for Melodifestivalen 2018. And if tonight’s Melodifestivalklubben audience exit poll is anything to go by, Mendez will be joining them after tomorrow’s Andra Chansen round in Kristianstad.

The fan club polls the audience as they’re leaving the arena following Friday evening’s dress rehearsal. It’s proven to be a pretty handy guide to who could be in line to advance in the actual result.

Tonight, the majority of the audience rowed behind the “Everyday” rapper. He picked up 170 votes. That’s 22% of all votes cast.

Of course, Andra Chansen is no ordinary Melfest heat. All eight entries placed either third or fourth in their respective semi-finals.

Furthermore, it’s not simply a case of the most popular acts qualifying. Instead, the powers that be divide the group into four one-on-one “duels”.  Only the four duel winners progress to the grand final.

So who else do Friday evening’s audience want to see in the final? Let’s examine the poll results.

MELODIFESTIVALKLUBBEN POLL RESULTS MELODIFESTIVALEN 2018 Andra Chansen KRISTIANSTAD

  1. Mendez “Everyday” 170 (32%)
  2. Sigrid Bernson “Patrick Swayze” 101 (19%)
  3. FELIX SANDMAN “Every Single Day” 93 (17%)
  4. Mimi Werner “Songburning” 47 (9%)
  5. Renaida “All The Feels 38 (7%)
  6. Moncho “Cuba Libre” 35 (6.5%)
  7. Margaret “In My Cabana” 29 (5.5%)
  8. Olivia Eliasson “Never Learn” (20 4%)

A problem immediately jumps out. Rather than ask the audience to choose a winner from each of the four duels, pollsters simply looked for crowd members to name their overall favourite.

This results in the surreal situation where Sigrid Bernson sits comforably in second place with 101 votes. However, with Mendez on top, there is no way that the “Patrick Swayze” popstar can make the final. They’re both in the same duel and only one can qualify!

The poll also appears to have been strongly influenced by the running order. The top four acts all competed in the last two duels while the bottom four all sang in the first two.

Applying these poll results the acts in bold will qualify

  1. Margaret “In My Cabana” (SF 2) vs. Moncho “Cuba Libre” (SF 3)
  2. Renaida “All the Feels” (SF 1) vs. Olivia Eliasson “Never Learn” (SF 4)
  3. Felix Sandman “Every Single Day” (SF 4) vs. Mimi Werner “Songburning” (SF 2)
  4. Sigrid Bernson “Patrick Swayze” (SF 1) vs. Méndez “Everyday” (SF 3)

Of course, with such a small sample size, there’s no way of telling if this audience poll will play out correctly. And given the restrictive nature of the question asked, this week’s poll is potentially rife with inaccuracies.

Nonetheless — it’s a spot of fun and has proven generally correct in the past.

In week two, the poll correctly predicted that Samir & Viktor and LIAMOO would advance direct to the final, while also anticipating that Margaret and Mimi Werner would go to Second Chance.

However, for semi-final one, it wrongly predicted that  Edward Blom would qualify ahead of Renaida.

And in semi three it only got one prediction right — Martin Almgren for the final. Audience poll topper Mendez had to make do with Andra Chansen, while fourth place Jessica Andreasson actually secured a place in the final. And despite polling third, Dotter ultimately crashed out in sixth place.

Last week’s poll was similarly all over the place. Once again only one prediction came through — Mariette to the final. Second and fourth placed Ellias Abbas and Emmi Christensson failed to qualify, while third place Rolandz actually secured a final spot. Audience non-qualifiers FELIX SANDMAN and Olivia Eliasson both ended up in Andra Chansen.

What do you think of the audience poll? Do you think we could be in for a shock, or do you think the live audience got it wrong? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

The fact that Felix is only 3rd among these is not a good sign before a final. If he makes it.. I’m not convinced about the song and the peformance. But I don’t mind. I want Benjamin to represent us. It’s a smarter move.

These polls mean nothing, as stated in the article.
Benjamin didn’t came first in the poll of the 1st SF. Why would he win then ?

Benjamin went directly to the final and I think juries will like the presentation. And kids and people born in the 70’s growing up with Michael Jackson will enjoy it. And so on.. I think Felix is not a clear favourite because of the fact he was sent Andra chansen. Doing well on Spotify doesn’t mean anything. Don’t forget his old fan base with The Fooo.

Well this poll is different because it’s AC. As article mentions they only ranked after performance. Which wont work since it’s duels. The fact that Felix is third means nothing because he has to be compared with Mimi. Same with top two. One of them has to go since they are dueling against each other.

Yes it’s different. But it is still a poll of who people like best. That means he would loose if he was up against Sigrid or Mendez? He’s lucky to battle against Mimi then..

These audience polls seem kind of off?
Cuba Libre over In My Cabana… And Patrick Swayze, what should’ve stayed in the semi final altogether, places second. Both seems pretty unlikely to happen tonight.

Mendez’s song has grown off me a lot tbh. The verses are horrible and I don’t find the chorus as catchy as I used to. I wouldn’t mind him winning over Sigrid though. Oh and please not Moncho! It shouldn’t have made it to Andra Chansen in the first place.

Hope it’s WRONG so that Cuba Libre and Patrick Swayze stay there and don’t bother our ears ever again.

I agree. Margaret to the final, cause Cuba Libre is awful.

It’s annoying that Felix and Mimi are in the same duel but Felix has to win.
Duel 1 – Margaret (her song is generic so I wouldn’t be sad if she lost)
Duel 2- Renaida (Olivia’s Song is trying to be 10 things at once yet it still feels like such a non-entity)
Duel 3 – Felix (shame I wish Mimi could go through over both from Duel 1 but Felix is the best this year for me)
Duel 4 – Sigrid (NO MENDEZ)

LOL, when will Wivibloggers realise Margaret is basically a fan wank here! She is far from the queen you made her out to be.
But don’t worry! She will qualify only to end up last in final. Someone has to!

Awful selection. Sweden sends crap year after year and people eat it up like fools. People will still vote for them nonetheless which is mind-boggling.

Well, they don’t vote for them because it’s Sweden but because they’ve gotten used to the song before the contest due to promo and exposure.

Sorry, but are Swedes deaf this year? Top 2 are very poor and Margaret, while not herself with a masterpiece, is miles ahead of the bad song she’s been pinned-up against. Felix and Mimi are by far the strongest two and it’s a shame they are paired in AC.

Margaret song is one of the worst to be honest!
Swedes are not deaf at all, they are forced to choose a winner from a pile of s**t songs this year and trust me..that is hard…

Swedes forced only two good songs against each other, only for both of them to be under-estimated by the audience poll in favor of two quite weak entries. And even if you don’t like Margaret, at least she is better than what she is up against.

Margaret was given the easiest opponent and it’ll be horrible if she loses. Also the dark fact that the finale might only have 3 female performers…

If those all make it to the final (bar Renaida) then I will really struggle to care enough to watch to final. The poorest year since I started watching in 2010!

Same. It’s a shame him and Mimi are in the same duel since I’d take either of them over Margaret or Moncho.

Yes, so true! Mimi and Felix are the best from Andra Chansen, what was Christer Björkman thinking..?

He wants to avoid the possibility of both Renaida and Olivia ending up in the final, as they have somewhat similar expressions. That might sound like a far fetched scenario, but no responsible producer should take that risk. He’s done it before, and failed.

It’s just a poll and I hope so. Because if it turns out to be correct tomorrow, Sweden is cancelled.
