FELIX SANDMAN EVERY SINGLE DAY NUMBER ONE

Eurovision fans are labelling it the worst Melodifestivalen for years. But judging from the Sverigetopplistan chart, the Swedish public does not agree.

The latest countdown of the country’s top 100 singles shows a nation that’s gripped by Mello mania. The list contains 19 entries from the competition, 14 of which are inside the top 40. And, for the first time since 2016, a Melfest song holds the number one spot.

After debuting at #9 last weekFELIX SANDMAN “Every Single Day” has soared to #1. He’s slowly been building traction from semi-final 4 through to Andra Chansen to now. The last Melfest act to reach the top spot was Frans with “If I Were Sorry” in 2016. He went on to win the competition and finished fifth at Eurovision.

However, topping the charts does not guarantee victory. Ace Wilder ruled the Sverigetopplistan in 2014, only for “Busy Doin’ Nothin'” to finish second behind Sanna Nielsen’s “Undo”.

Four more Melfest contenders join FELIX inside the top ten. The highest being Samir & Viktor “Shuffla”. The lively duo are at #3. Right behind them is Mendez “Everyday” at #4. They’re up from #6 and #5 respectively.

Benjamin Ingrosso “Dance You Off” and LIAMOO “Last Breath” break into the top ten for the first time. Benjamin is at #7 while LIAMOO sneaks in at #10.

Margaret “In My Cabana” at #12 and Rolandz “Fuldans” at #14 bring the number of top 20 Melodifestivalen entries to seven.

Elsewhere, Mariette “For You”, John Lundvik “My Turn”, Jessica Andersson “Party Voice” and Renaida “All The Feels” all crack the top 40.

As do Sigrid Bernson “Patrick Swayze”, Olivia Eliasson “Never Learn” and Moncho “Cuba Libre”, despite all three being eliminated during last Saturday’s Andra Chansen.

At #42, Martin Almgren “A Bitter Lullaby” is the lowest charting finalist.

The lower reaches of the chart also sees appearances from a number of acts which were knocked out during the semi-finals — Dotter, Elias Abbas, Edward Blom and Kamferdrops.

Somewhat surprisingly, Mimi Werner “Songburning” remains outside the chart. She’s the only semi-final qualifier to miss the top 100 completely in 2018. Ida Redig, who placed fifth behind her, broke into the charts for the two weeks immediately following semi two.

SWEDEN’S SVERIGETOPPLISTAN 9 MARCH 2018

1. FELIX SANDMAN “Every Single Day” (up from 9)

3. Samir & Viktor “Shuffla” (up from 6)

4. Mendez “Everyday” (up from 5)

7. Benjamin Ingrosso “Dance You Off” (up from 17)

10. LIAMOO “Last Breath” (up from 20)

12. Margaret “In My Cabana” (up from 26)

14. Rolandz “Fuldans” (up from 29)

21. Mariette “For You” (up from 41)

22. John Lundvik “My Turn” (up from 49)

27. Sigrid Bernson “Patrick Swayze” (up from 44)

28. Jessica Andersson “Party Voice” (up from 59)

30. Olivia Eliasson “Never Learn” (up from 60)

31. Moncho “Cuba Libre” (up from 43)

38. Renaida “All The Feels” (up from 62)

42. Martin Almgren “A Bitter Lullaby” (up from 68)

72. Dotter “Cry” (down from 67)

76.  Elias Abbas “Mitt Paradis” (up from 80)

84. Edward Blom “Livet på en pinne” (up from 99)

86. Kamferdrops “Solen lever kvar hos dig” (re-entry)

Of course, the Melodifestivalen 2018 winner won’t be determined by the charts. Nevertheless, they can potentially offer an insight as to what songs the Swedish public are backing.

But unlike the semis and second chance round, the voting dynamics will be shaken up in the grand final as the votes of international juries will also come into play.

What do you think? Do you agree with the chart rankings? Does Felix deserve to be number one? How did your favourites do? Let us know in the comments below.

Have read comments on Wiwibloggs for years, never commented before. As a Swede, have watched Melodifestivalen since the early 70-ies. Grew up with it. We either love or hate it, we always discuss it. Most that hate it watch as well. Families watch together. Young and old. We need glitter and fun in the darkest weeks of the year. Stuff that makes us happy. With this said – I personally want Felix to win. Loved the song first time I heard it. Felt genuine. Was chocked it only went to AC. Here at home – the Melfest hating significant other… Read more »

What an odd year for Sweden. A song that they didn’t vote directly to the grand finals is now sitting at #1 in their official music charts. How will tonight’s show turn out then? Let me guess who got highest televotes this year..Samir & Viktor? lolz

The comparable Sverigetopplistan last year:
3. As I Lay Me Down
6. I Can’t Go On
7. Hold On
10. Gotta Thing About You

Daily spotify streams, March 10 last year
2. As I Lay Me Down, 356 489
4. Hold On, 275 755
5. I Can’t Go On, 270 149
9. Gotta Thing About You, 219 884

Well the Top 3 was the same just in different order so charts aren’t so far off. Gotta Thing About You’s target audience was mostly teenagers, so it makes sense to have done well on the charts and slightly down in the televote. If that same effect is in this year, Felix might not win the televote, but he is still very likely to be in the Top 3 of televoting.

With all these charts showing Renaida dead last behind her competition, I’m sad to accept that she might get last place in televotes :/

Yeah, chart success is clearly an excellent indicator, but it’s not sufficient.

It’s either her or Martin. I think she’s mentally prepared for that and is just “gonna go out there and have fun” as they say. She’s already acheived what she set out to do. 🙂

Mimi is just as good as Felix. It was a bad decision putting them in the same dues. Mimi should have dueled Sigrid and Felix should have dueled Mendez and both of them should have won their respective duels.

Mimi was most likely 4th, so her opponents were always going to be one of Felix, Margaret, Mendez or Renaida – the assumed 3rd placers, so no matter what, she would’ve had a hard time going to the final. Though, Mimi was, without a doubt, the strongest 4th placer.

You are right, it’s 3rd vs 4th. Since Margaret was with Mimi on the semi, not her, which leaves Felix, Mendez and Renaida. Even so, IMHO, Felix is the only one whose song is as good as Mimi’s. Realistically, she could have lost from Renaida or Mendez, but at least I would be properly cheering for her. This way, it was a tie and I was bummed one of them has to go.

Any upset is possible, but this is the probability:

0-5% chance for winning – Rolandz, Renaida
5-10% chance for winning – Martin, Mendez
10-20% chance for winning – Jessica, Margaret
20-30% chance for winning – Liamoo, Mariette, Samir & Viktor
30-60% chance fro winning – Felix, Benjamin

That’s actually pretty accurate, I see it the same way. Samir & Viktor I kinda cancelled, because the Jury isn’t gonna like them. I find it fascinating, that Felix is the 2nd favourite to win…People say that, the Odds say that…. I love Felix’ song, but I did not expect him to be received so well. In the end he’s an Andra Chansen qualifier and doesn’t that usually leave no Chance of winning anything at all? Not in this case I guess. Would be cool to see another AC winner again. ^^

I have a feeling we might even get a Jamala-style victory. For example:

Televote: 1) Samir & Viktor, 2) Felix, 3) Liamoo, 4) Benjamin, 5) Margaret

Jury: 1) Benjamin, 2) Felix, 3) Mariette, 4) John, 5) Martin

Overall: 1) Felix, 2) Benjamin, 3) Samir & Viktor, 4) Liamoo, 5) Mariette

Yeah, somehow it seems highly unlikely. Well, ANY kind of win for Felix or S&V is a good news for me. My third/fourth options are Jessica and Margaret, even if I know that they are even less likely to win. I’d be okay with Benjamin, but that’s it -okay. Probably no way he would be in my top 15 of ESC.

I often have a feeling that when I root for the obvious winner, it’s a surprise victory and whenever I root for the underdog, the obvious winner wins. However, I know this feeling is wrong, as this year, my favorite won in Estonia, Denmark, Germany, Serbia, Finland and Switzerland, while my joint favorite won in Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and France. So, actually, it’s often that my favorite wins, but of course, not always. So far, my saddest ”defeat” this season was Madara in Latvia, even if I actually quite like Laura’s song. My favorites this weekend are S&V /… Read more »

This can indicate a lot about the televote, but tells us zilch about the international juries and they often dictate the winner. Benjamin Ingrosso’s song would be the exact type of song they go for the last few years.

I expect Felix or Samir & Viktor to win the televote, though.

I believe Felix has the advantage right now of being exposed both in the last semifinal and AC. Benjamin performed in the first semifinal. That’s five weeks ago! People need to refresh their memories. Because I think Benjamin is the best choice compared to what’s chosen so far for Esc. Felix would just blend in. He wouldn’t be remembered at all. But I’m fine with our entry if he goes to Lissabon.
And I wouldn’t leave out John Lundvik’s chances. But choosing him would be a disaster I think. Even more than Felix.

Or at least Jessica just to annoy him.

I think Felix would stand out more than Benjamin. Benjamin would be the entry everyone expects Sweden to send. Like Robin bengtsson last year.
Felix offers something new. There aren’t many entries like him this year and it is a really good song. The fact that he doesn’t have many “tricks” is what makes him unique. Choosing him won’t be a disaster.

Both Ingrosso and felix would be good choices and would secure good spots. Felix would be the edgier choice though. Ingrosso is more safe

Have you checked out Gustav’s blog on SVT and Schlagerprofilerna? They have their own international juryvoting. It’s really close between Benjamin (1st) then Felix and John on Schlagerprofilerna’s. And Benjamin is in the lead right now with John in 2nd on Gustav’s blog. Felix has dropped further down.. But still there are no runaway winner as it seems.. Could be a hint of what to expect with the juries though. But then is the question.. What will the public vote for? That damn app will create not much of a difference between them I think.

Denis
Denis
Reply to  Milla

Also what kind of people are in the juries? Connection to MF like with Gustav or who haven’t seen before as in Schlagerprofilerna? If it’s like in number 2 Felix could still have a chance.
Either way it looks like it won’t be a clear jury winner as Robin B last year. But the jury favourite will most likely be the winner since the app voting won’t create much difference between scores. if they want more televoting influence the app should be abolished or limited.
