Benjamin Ingrosso Dance You Off

After six shows in six cities over six weeks, Melodifestivalen 2018 journeyed to the Friends Arena in Stockholm for its heated conclusion. Twelve acts competed in the contest, vying for the opportunity to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. After the dust has settled, Benjamin Ingrosso has won with “Dance You Off”!

Benjamin won after twelve (or thirteen, after Renaida performed twice) performances featuring everything from Swedish to Spanish. From big dance numbers to heartfelt ballads, glowing pyramids to an ape in a cabana and everything in between. Benjamin wins after topping both the jury and public vote.

Benjamin Ingrosso — Winner Interview

International jury results

The votes of the international jury were revealed first. After all the votes came in, the panel’s favourite was revealed to be Benjamin Ingrosso with “Dance You Off”. The international jury placed Felix Sandman in a close second, setting up a two-horse race for the public vote.

The international jury consisted of jurors from eleven countries.

  • Poland — Mateusz Grzesinski (head of delegation)
  • Albania — Kleart Duraj (head of delegation)
  • Iceland — Felix Bergsson (head of delegation)
  • Italy — Nicola Caligiore (head of delegation)
  • Cyprus — Klitos Klitou (presenter)
  • Australia — Stephanie Werrett (deputy head of delegation)
  • Georgia — Nodiko Tatishvili (Eurovision 2013 representative)
  • United Kingdom — Simon Proctor (classical score representative)
  • Armenia — Anush Ter-Ghukasyan
  • France — Bruno Berberes (former head of delegation)
  • Portugal — Goncalo Madail

Public vote results

The votes of the public were added to the results of the international jury. The public had the same top two in mind and Benjamin Ingrosso edged out Felix Sandman to win the vote on both fronts.

What an incredible dull and boring song; you hear thousands like this on the radio. I taught last year the Swedish song was not great, this is 10 times worse !
Will he reach the final ? Yes off course. Bu I hope with a bad ranking in the end because this is absolutely not what we expect from a Swedish entry. And they didn’t send Loreen with ‘Statements’ last year … my gosh what a waste.

Mmmm if the idea is not to win because it gets too expensive to organise the whole thing that makes sense :). But there are so many greats songs in Sweden it’s hard to understand they send this piece of crap. And for your understanding, yes Eurovision is not only sending something you like as a country, but hoping others will do as well. That’s the concept of a contest.

Well, the audience in sweden hasn’t that focus on esc. That my opinion. The mest I know only wath the melfest and don’t care about esc. Melfest is bigger than esc here and many vote for the song they like most. Not what they think people in Azerbadjan,Norway or Italy like.

Read more »

. Men då skulle det… Read more »

Tröttsamt med allt hat! ?

Malin

There att no hate between them. Felix said in an interwiew that he would join his friend to Lissabon. Benjamin sad that they both had won and talked about sharing the price, the songbird. Kidding about cut it in two pieces or have i diffrent weeks.
The interwiew was directly after målfest on SVT.

They are close friends and invite eachother for birthdayparties. When Benjamin and Felix works in LA they also meet eacother as friends.

The interesting thing about this final is the fact that Felix and Mendez who finished 2nd and 3rd in the televote, came from the Andra Chansen round. Guys, at this point of ESC and after the controversy between fast food music and personal composer’s music, I think we should all try to agree to vote for a quality song in terms of composition with a European essence. I still dont know who I will vote for, but I would like the winner to be among Greece, Armenia, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, which are NOT singing in English.

Erik Ekelund

I get your point! I wouldnt mind either as long as it has quality, has a European essence, it has a personal touch and hasnt got an “I’ve heard it before” effect. To stand up and dance to generic commercial songs we have the clubs, In my opinion, a song contest should value other features.

About actual winner- he's really enjoying, playing and having fun on that scene, doesn't he? 😀 Song has retro-disco vibe, as someone said? Staging will be noticed for sure, it's interesting to watch. One can complain because his favorite doesn't win, but as I can see , he won televote as well, so I can only say- congratulations!

I think a lot of people are missing the point of these comments. Yes, this will rank good in the competition. But why? Because it’s Sweden, not because the song is good or original. We are not denying the song’s possibilities to succeed in May, but pointing out that Eurovision isn’t really a fair competition. Sweden could send literally anything and be in top 10, and it’s the same for a few other countries too! Azerbaijan and Australia for example. Please imagine Benjamin’s song for an eastern european country, with a little worse staging, and the odds will go down… Read more »

I don’t buy the notion that “it will get a good result because it’s Sweden”. No country will get a good result based on old merits. However the fact that the international jury gave Benjamin very good scores (6 twelves out of 11) indicates that the jury will rank Sweden high in ESC too.

One concern that I have about this entry is that it’s easy to like what we are watching but it’s very difficult to connect with it. It bothers me that there isn’t that moment in “Heroes” for example, where Mans had some interaction with the audience. This one has just one brief long shot. I hope they change that to Lisbon, but I don’t think it will happen.

Sabrina, I reckon’ what you’re saying- anthemic ”Heroes”- Mans’ interaction with audience was impressive and uplifting. Robin- he was ”seducing” the audience, it was flirty song. Benjamin- he is self-centered, enjoying himself, but maybe because the song is like that? (looking at the lyrics). He wants to forget his toxic relationship? ”Treating you good we were gold I dug you like you were treasure So don’t act like I’m the cruel one When I know you know better..” ”Just wanna dance you off So don’t you dare wait up ‘Cause I just wanna feel the mood Girl with anyone but… Read more »

Just because someone says something negative about a Swedish song doesn’t make them “anti-Swedish”. Criticizing a song is not the same as criticizing the country. Also, Sweden isn’t the only country that gets hated on at Eurovision. Other countries, especially Russia and Australia, also receive similar levels of hate as well. Given how fabulously ridiculous the Israeli lyrics are (NOT the message which is a great one – the words used to convey it) I wouldn’t be surprised if Netta had both fake camels and chickens.

“Lie to me” might be slightly better as a song. But haven’t seen their staging yet.. Could get a bit silly instead in my opinion. If I imagine it. “Dance you off” is more slick.

We seem to send an entry that screams SWEDEN according to fans. Good, because then I know we are on the right track. This is what we do best, and we shouldn’t stop sending it. How boring it would be if we did! And.. sending an entry which reminds of last years winner is not good at all. So that leaves Felix out.
“Lie to me” might be a better song, but could actually flop with the staging.. This is packaged nicely from the start and ready to go. Good luck Benjamin!

It doesn’t matter what we send, this is what it would sound in the wiwibloggs comments:

Benjamin wins:
“Omg so bad song, its only staging, he can’t sing or dance, I’m so disappointed!”

Felix wins:
“Omg it’s copy and paste from 2016 and Frans’ song, why can’t Sweden bring something new?? I’m so disappointed!”

Margaret wins:
“Omg why do Sweden send a polish artist? It should be someone from Sweden, guys! I’m so disappointed!”

Jessica wins:
“Omg schlager is so yesterday! Why won’t Sweden send something modern like they always do? I’m so disappointed”

Please inform me how I should be then 🙂

However, I’m just fed up with the comments. It was the same comments when Robin, Frans and Måns won (and look how poorly they did, jeez). So in my ‘delusional’ mind, I think it doesn’t matter who wins, it will always be the wrong song according to this fansite.

‘i It was the same comments when Robin, Frans and Måns won ‘

Jeez hun, no it wasnt. use a different argument to feel better about yourself, okay?

People are criticizing it for a reason, and if you cant see why or try to understand it , then yes, you’re delusional.

My sweet honey-bun, If I’ve got a penny for every hate comment on a Swedish winning entry on this site, I’d be a millionaire, okay?

So you’re saying that whom ever won tonight wouldn’t get any sort of comment of those examples I gave? That all other entries were better than Benjamin? All I’m saying is that people is getting butt-hurt no matter what.

Benjamin wasn’t even my favorite entry, but that is not what my point is. Me, my voices and my delusion cheered for Samir and Victor if that makes you happy?

Dom hatade Loreen, Sanna, Måns, Frans, Robin. Patetiskt.

What’s pathetic is to write in swedish, because you’re scared people might fight you in the comments.

I’ll repeat myself: Stay cocky, sweden. The fall will be even bigger. If not this year, next year. And no, queen loreen did not receive this amount of hate.

P.S- people dont watch melfest for the quality of music, but for the ‘show’ and troll acts.

Actually…
Im a Swede and I find Benjamins song quite boring. I think its a song without any passion nor spirit to it…Not my favourite at all, but I wish him the best anyway.:)
And either you like a song or you dont, the great thing about this is that its ok with different taste in music?
Loreen on the other hand, was outstanding in my believes.May the best song win, no matter what country it is.?

So you’re basically saying that no one should say anything negative about a Swedish entry and that anyone who does that is just jealous and bitter?

I’m not Swedish and I agree with you. They just hate you guys sending pop songs with a really good staging. They are the guys who always look for unique and different sounds. However, they just don’t know there are a lot of people like me who love this type of songs. I want to a song I can listen to after the contest but not the one-time artsy thing!

Heja!
