Bullies beware: Zibbz are coming and they’re armed with molotov cocktails. Or at least, in their music video they are.
The dynamic duo, who will represent Switzerland at Eurovision 2018, unveiled their revamp and edgy music video at the same time today.
Casting “Stones” as an anthem against bullying, Zibbz light things up in a grungy warehouse in more ways than one.
The clip starts with vocalist Corinne dressing for battle. At the other end of the warehouse, various assailants arm themselves for battle, unaware that the Swiss siblings are protected by a laser matrix, which can be interpreted as a visual metaphor for the resilient message of their song.
As weapons are thrown, the double act are covered in clouds of paint, but keep performing. These two are troopers y’all!
Swiss broadcaster SRF shed more light on the message of the video in a quote e-mailed to wiwibloggs.
“Zibbz shame cowards who bully others, and appeal to us all to let others live the way they want to live,” they write. “‘Stones’ has a clear message: ‘Bullying stops people from dreaming, from being their true selves, and from really living life. It happens in the school playground, on the internet, and of course putting yourself down is also a form of bullying.”
The triangles of the national final have been ditched and so has the tame national final version. The production has been polished, new effects have been added and the entry is more intense than the original.
SRF teased the music video release last night across official channels with an 18-second teaser.
ZIBBZ’ ROAD TO EUROVISION
Zibbz won Switzerland’s selection Die Entscheidungsshow in early February, winning top marks from the international jury and Swiss televoters at home.
The duo have also confirmed two appearances on the promo party circuit at Eurovision In Concert and the London Eurovision Party.
Switzerland has won Eurovision twice, but has failed to make the grand final for the past three years. Timebelle came agonisingly close to qualifying last year, missing out by just four points, but in 2016 and 2015 Switzerland placed last in its semi-final.
SRF will be hoping to put an end to that trend this year.
Really like this revamp! Its true, for any other country this song would be considered strong and a clear qualifier, but since it is Switzerland… people don’t even notice or consider it. I hope they will qualify!
I don’t think this song needed revamp but i like this version too. The stage show’d need some revamp. One of my favorities in this year. I wish they’ll reach final at least 🙂
I don’t get why this song it mostly ignored. It is not cheap (however much or little we may think of it), it sounds pretty decent, has a fine idea for theme, lyrics that don’t read like a silly school poem from a twelve-year-old (like most songs here). It is a pop song with fine production and wrapped up, and then it took fans like two months to ever say anything about it?
Losing hope in this festival’s following.
Switzerland, like Ireland, is not trying anymore.
Switzerland deserves the final with “Stones”. It has one of the best messages of this year but I am not sure the revamp was an improvement. Actually, I am rather disappointed.
For any other country, this song would be a top-favorit.
Why???
I hope this will have a chance. So much better than the dutch entry.
To me SF1 qualifiers are (in no particular order):
Israel
Finland
Belgium
Cyprus
Greece
Croatia
Estonia or Belarus (don’t really like both)
Switzerland
Bulgaria
Czech Republic (unfortunately, because I’d replace it with Azerbaijan)
Replace Cyprus or Croatia with Azerbaijan. I believe Austria or FYR Macedonia are not that dead either.
I agree. It’s hard to predict SF1 this year because it’s very strong. But I really want Cyprus to get in. One of the few songs I actually listen to a lot.
This song is rising in my rankings. I’m afraid it will be Apollo all over again though.
Bon bah la Suisse n’a pas envie de gagner :p
I love this song. This is in my top 3 at the moment together with Austria and Bulgaria. Well done, Switzerland.
Zibbz are still one of my favourites… This raw unpolished chorus combined with this important sensible message gets me everytime I listen to it. For me, it’s the best Swiss entry since, well, I don’t know, a very long time…
Still don’t like the chorus. I think it has no chance of qualifying, unfortunately.
This revamp is good! I’ll definitely be voting and rooting for this in the semi!
It’s not bad. I really like it. But I don’t think it’s good enough for qualification. Good luck anyway.
Agree. It isn’t just good enough. I can’t see in the final.
Switzerland always send a very good song, but sadly they wont qualify even in this year, because of those overrated countries and songs like Israel…
how do u know they will not qualify
Israel is good. I hope both songs qualify.
Israel is fine. I honestly rooting more for Albania than for Switzerland. I don’t count Croatia, Austria or FYR Macedonia out either. The only sure non-qualifiers I’d say are Iceland, Ireland and Lithuania.
I wouldn’t say Lithuania is certain NQ. Slow songs with powerful emotions could go far. I’d be a bit disappointed if Azerbaijan or Cyprus qualified over Lithuania.
I think the verse wasn’t that strong in the original version. It seems almost the same to me as the original. But I don’t really like the verses now. The chorus is fine.
Nice music video!
The song is not bad but i think she needs to change the styling, she looks dated and it degrades alot the emotions the song can bring to people…
Apart from the bit at the start, I don’t notice much difference but I still love it. However, as we keep saying SF1 is so tough. With great staging and other countries failing to deliver it might get back to the final.
This is not a winner but being last in the odds is a bit harsh.
The problem with Switzerland has been the live performance. I hope they fix it this year.
Oh no….I liked it better before the revamp 🙁
Maybe I’m just not used to hearing it differently yet…
I’ve still got faith that they just might be able to pull this off.
Sadly they are in the first semifinal.
Thus is still a contender for last place overall… Sorry Switzerland
It’s not?
Now all we need now is some decent staging come May. Last year’s was a disaster and took Timebelle’s song a little too literal, instead of just sticking with the red dress and rose petals.
I’m still shocked how they’re last in the odds. Wonder if they will change anything in their staging.
I’m still angry about what they did with Timebelle…..
Agree, that esc staging was disaster, it was much better in NF, I still remember beautiful red dress and rose petals..
