Last week Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer surpassed nine other acts to the out the Krajowe Eliminacje 2018 crown with their EDM track “Light Me Up”.
Their performance at the national final was celebratory and full of energy, taking first place in the public vote. A week on from their win, the duo returned to the studio to record a stripped-back version, releasing an acoustic take on the Eurovision version.
Backed by only a keyboard and guitar, singer Lukas Meijer performs in a monochromatically pleasing clip, delivering heart and emotion. Unlike the clip for their Eurovision version which shows love in a happy and frivolous light, the duo have come in from outside with a more serious take on love, performing in small room full of candles. It provides a different take on the entry, with Lukas’ vocals more pronounced and raw. It’s less celebration and more desolation.
Speaking with wiwiblogger Kevin, Swedish-born Lukas Meijer told wiwibloggs that “Light Me Up” is a break-up song, describing his feelings of losing a loved one after heartbreak. No doubt the boys drowned their sorrows in their winner’s after-party last weekend.
Gromee and Lukas Meijer will be the fifth Polish entry at Eurovision since Poland’s return to the competition in 2014. Since returning to the contest, Poland has always made it through to the grand final, with last year’s entrant Kasia Mos coming 22nd with 64 points. The duo will perform in the second half the second semi final.

I don’t like the ESC version. But I love this one! This is personal, intimate and emotional, features I personally appreciate in a song contest.

I LOVE SONG POLAND ??????
I like this version. The original is IMO better for ESC, but this one is more emotional.
how can such a generic song be “emotional” gnjkdsnjdnj
It’s easier to sing in acoustic. This video is deceiving but this version is better.
He should use a bunch of backing vocals to hide his flaws live, it’s what benjamin is doing and it works.
It can be.
