At the Eurostar terminal in London last summer, Swiss Eurovision star Mélanie René dazzled us with her heartfelt cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You”. She literally stopped traffic inside London’s St. Pancras International Station, reminding us all that when Eurovision 2015 came to an end she kept on going.
Since then she’s had had a change of direction, rebranded as Melyz, and dropped the hot club track “DanceFloor”. Close your eyes, hit play and take in that beat…
“DanceFloor” is a modern EDM summer club banger. It tackles the eccentricity of games of the heart, and the ever-familiar feelings of wanting what you can’t always have. The lyrics allude to seduction without commitment and how we are often scared of looking deeper in ourselves to discover the unknown.
Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Melyz explains:
“After taking part in Eurovision and associated events, I wanted to work on a personal music project. I’ve always been a massive fan of punk-rock music and electro music, so I thought it would be interesting to try to mix the two genres together. So late last year, I traveled to London to collaborate with Phil Braithwaite on ‘DanceFloor’.When we had the music, I was trying to find some lyrics to it when I noticed a heart-shaped confetti on the floor. I said to Phil ‘Oh my God I’ve found my heart on the floor’. In that moment, the theme for the chorus was born. The track was later mastered and produced by Eric Anderson and Stephane Chapelle in Switzerland. Together, they’ve helped me define my music style with more precision, and brought my vibe into 2018.”
“Since growing as an artist and moving in a different music direction, I realised that this is the perfect opportunity to re-brand myself with a stage name that would suit my new music style better. I wanted something shorter than ‘Mélanie René’; a one-word name. So I chose Melyz. My Eurovison fans are like family to me. I love them, value their support and I want to take them with me on my new journey. I’d also like to know what sort of music video they’d like to see for this new single.”
“DanceFloor” will be released on all music platforms on 23 March 2018.
“DANCEFLOOR” LYRICS – Melyz
I never meant for you to love me
When we were nothing in the beginning
Never thought you’d get my heart racing
And make it crash at the finish line
You got me falling head over heels
Trippin’, thinkin’ you were my next victim
Never have I ever let a fool in
You got me looking for my heart on the dancefloor
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
Swaying, deceiving,
We’ll let it flow ’til dawn
Trying to find what we, what we stand for
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
I got you crazy for no one else but me
You never thought I’d be a wild one
If you’re crazy I’m crazier for sure
There are no battles I won’t fight for
On your heart I’ll find a new way of waging a war
So we dance through the night
Selling our souls
There’s nothing stopping us tonight
Let’s keep on drinkin’, dancin’
Strippin’ for feelings
The sirens call, there’s murder on the dancefloor
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
Trying to find what we, what we stand for
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
I got you crazy for no one else but me
Oh oh oh oh…
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
Swaying, deceiving,
We’ll let it flow ’til dawn
Trying to find what we, what we stand for
I lost my heart on the dancefloor
I got you crazy for no one else but me

Melanie is great and so are her songs. Time to shine deserved to do so much better and is still one of my favourites. Hope she has a great career.
First Ella Nor, now Melyz. Who’s next? Ambi? Mar? :thinking_emoji:
Anja Veterova (Junior Eurovision 2010 Macedonia) is nowadays known as Annia.
