She’s the Brazilian born Latvian with a career spanning three continents already. Laura Rizzotto will sing “Funny Girl” for Latvia at Eurovision 2018, after triumphing across the semi-final and final of Supernova 2018.
The song’s lyrics – penned by Laura herself – reveal a bittersweet love story. Despite her initial worries, she falls for her love interest: “I locked my heart in hesitation / But somehow, you cracked the code”.
Unfortunately for Laura, it doesn’t take an enigma machine to work out what’s happening next. “You’re looking at her / she’s looking at you” and “you walk in, smelling like her perfume”. It comes to the realisation that she’ll always just be the “funny girl” in her lover’s life, and never the true love that she desires.
