Make a chicken cry and grab your toy box: Israel’s Netta has won the first 12 points of the OGAE Poll 2018. OGAE France has become the first of more than 40 Eurovision fan clubs around the world to reveal it’s favourite song at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

This is the second year in a row that OGAE France has kicked off voting. Last year, the club gave 12 points to Italy’s Francesco Gabbani, foreshadowing his eventual victory in the poll weeks later.

The vote confirms the odds which currently have Israel as the favourite to win the contest in May.

The French fan club gave 10 points to Finland’s Saara Aalto and 8 points to Australia’s Jessica Mauboy.

Denmark’s Rasmussen took 7 points and Czech Republic’s Mikolas Josef earned 6 points rounding out the French top 5.

You can see the French points below:

Israel – 12
Finland – 10
Australia – 8
Denmark – 7
Czech Republic – 6
Sweden – 5
Greece – 4
Bulgaria – 3
Italy – 2
Austria – 1

The full scores are available through the group’s Facebook page:

Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve done the maths, it’s not a secret anymore, Israel is the winner of the annual OGAE France poll.Share your comments :)Romain

Posted by OGAE France Eurofans on Sunday, March 25, 2018

Azerbaijan, Estonia and Belarus all missed out on points by slender margins. Further fan clubs will reveal their votes in the coming week.

Will the OGAE Poll 2018 predict the winner of Eurovision 2018?

Not exactly. Members of OGAE – L’Organisation générale des amateurs de l’Eurovision – aren’t an entirely accurate representation of the 200 million viewers who tune in to the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

In twelve years, the poll has only accurately predicted the winner four times and the past two winners have both failed to make it into the top 5 at the Grand Final.

Francesco Gabbani, who won the poll last year, fell at the last hurdle and finished in 6th place last year in Kyiv. The poll’s runner up Blanche did however manage to make the top 5, finishing in fourth with her track “City Lights”.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as results pour in from around the world!

Personally, I think Israel hasn’t the best song this year. However, it’s different and catchy and I can see why people like it. Denmark wouldn’t be in my top 10. I’m glad to see Greece, Italy and the Czech Republic here.

France top is good for me but all the best songs are in. But my top is diverse:
1. Italy (12 p.)
2. Bulgaria (10 p.)
3. Australia (8 p.)
4. Denmark (7 p.)
5. Austria (6 p.)
6. Israel (5 p.)
7. Portugal (4 p.)
8. Czech Republic (3p.)
9. Greece (2 p.)
10. Finland (1 p.)
That’s my top 10 and my opinion ????

You will have a better chance guessing the results if you ask random people about which song they prefer. Eurofans and all of us overanalyze everything, have heard the songs more than once, think of what kind of song traditionally are voted, check the odds. Asking some friends their opinion I got these as favorites: Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Hungary, Israel, Spain, Greece, Netherlands, Czechia.

Hahahaha France is sucking up to Israel because of all the anti-s bull*** that is going on in France. I like the tempo of the song, I don’t like the feminist movement in this song because boys are not stupid! Is it a winning song “we will find out”

Are you serious? We are not anti -semitic! remember Amir, the Alma author team… it’s the song we don’t like. It has nothing to do with the religious convictions of the country from which it comes. I have already explained several times on this site, but in France we like simplicity and naturalness. Beautiful songs with beautiful text and nice music, no frills or complex choreography, simply. The song of Israel simply doesn’t fit into these criteria. I have a real crush on the song of Austria. Song that isn’t even classified among bookmakers but found in this ranking of… Read more »

Bonsoir Lisboa,
Voici mes votes :

Malte 1 point
Ukraine 2 points
Estonie 3 points
Chypre 4 points
Danemark 5 points
Serbie 6 points
Portugal 7 points

Espagne 10 points !!
Grèce 12 points !!!

You exagerate a little bit. I come from France, so the statement is correct for Italy and Spain but not for Greece, Portugal, Serbia… I didn’t give points to Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and United Kingdom.
I like the songs of some of my neighbours, what can I do ? I didn’t vote for Barei or Emma Marrone for example. I sometimes change favourite neigbours as many televoters do. Tell me which songs do you like, I can tell where you come from !!!

Not sure if you are still reading.
From the different criteria :
– Not in your list. (33)
– Not a big 5 (28)
– Not an island (24)
– Not a neighbour of your mentioned countries
I ended up with a short-list of six countries including :
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Greece, Lithuania
and Montenegro.
Not Greece because I gave 12 points so you wouldn’t mention my voting pattern.
I would say Montenegro because of you “non closest neighbour” criteria. But I am not sure…

1. OGAE vote for what they like and not to predict anything.

2. If you are looking for predictions they are all here: https://www.oddschecker.com/tv/eurovision/winner

3. TOY could win and it could fail, it’s all about the live performance – just like it is with all songs. We will just have to wait and see.

Danny, thats true. This is in english and I think that I hear a more modern sound in Israels song than the Italian last year.
But I think that many will be creul whith the sounds of chicken.
When I heard it the first time, that was the thing that I noticed and I think many miss the good things about The song. I think it mait become top 10 or top 5. But to many of those who listen at it for the first time will not get it. Thats my guess.

Some boring song will win Eurovision, and Toy will be the real successful song after Eurovision. And all that, just because ESC fans want ESC to be taken seriously. Who are you trying to please by voting the most boring song? Do you think that ironic videos on y-t will stop if you vote for yet another dramatic song? No, ironic videos will never stop, and Jamala and Salvador only made haters laugh more.

Do you think that ”Dance you off” is the song that will make ESC be taken seriously? No. What I mean is that ESC is already serious, and snobs should be ignored. Snobs want boring songs, but Sweden and Israel have songs for the people (this is a good thing).
No matter how many artsy songs will win, haters will still be haters. Artsy winners will not make haters change their mind.

I agree….. Amar pelos dois has been the most regressive winner for ESC in recent years.
A song even if it’s considered a joke act by some makes it on people’s download lists and people can unabashedly play those songs then that’s the success of ESC!!

Who can play 1944 and Amar pelos dois without abandon in a setting where no one knows ESC…. Arguably no one.

Had Belgium won… It would be played. That’s why loreen with euphoria was such a success. It was a song worth downloading and it won and I can still play it without abandon.

I don’t know how to classify these songs exactly by genre, but I was talking from the point of view of those haters who year by year love to make fun of ESC. They will never be pleased, no matter how many songs about WW2 we will vote, they will still love to hate ESC. So vote for who you like, but if the chicken will win, don’t think they make fun just because of the chicken, they would’ve laugh anyway, of any winner, just because is ESC.

Please consider that probably the majority of ESC voters have heard about ESC since they’re quite young. Even very old ones…
Even if the social codes changed, many consider it as a “family dinner”, where everyone is well-dressed and well-behaved.
Israel is entertaining, but not for all generations and tastes…And these also vote.

Il Volo was classica popl yes. More operatic pop than anything. That is why it did well
Estonia is really more opera than pop. A difference
And it was in 2015, three years ago. What worked then might not work now. Thinking “it worked for them, it will work for us” rarely works.

And yes, Sweden has a chance of winning. It is a wide open field. Already after one fan voting it already does much better than both Frans and Robin B. Also sort of dampens your “Sweden will barely get top 10 by voters” notion!

Denis

It also depends on whether people like Sweden. Strange as it may be, some people genuinly likes Sweden. Which you would´nt know from being on here.
He gave Robin 24th, so? Did people like it more cause it was late, or what?
Already we know some fans like Benjamin and that is after having seen performance. If people like it they will vote. If enough people like it he will reach top 10, which seems more likely.

And Grande Amore was still 2015. It´s 2018 now. Taste changes.

It’s OGAE, what did you expect? They really thought Italy was gonna win last year. That says it all.

P.S. Fingers crossed Estonia doesn’t win. xD

But Estonia got my top technical marks! Lol.
This is the first year Polegend and I have agreed on the winner. 🙂

That’s amazing, still I don’t love the song as many people do. Opera songs are often clichéd (yes even Il Volo) and somewhat boring.

But it all depends on tastes. Estonia could be the winner, although people said the same about “Sognu” and look where that ended.

I love love opera and because of that Estonia’s cross iritates me a lot.

Wiwibloggs just doesn’t support Albania – the video has been released and no article about it so far – but maybe it is better so, because I think there is no wiwibloggs reporter who is really supporting this song anymore, Chris abandoned it after the revamp. In my opinion it is still great, although the high notes and the heavier instrumentation is missing in the revamped version – it is a very strong and marvellous entry – the song is developing from start to end, it is very orignial/inventive, with poetical lyrics, with high quality instrumentation and chord development, and… Read more »

“Mall” is still my #1, I don’t care what people say…I think it’s the best song of the year.

Shocking to see Croatia last. Croatia is really good this year.

IKR – it’s probably not because it’s bad (because it definitely isn’t), but because it doesn’t stand out.

It’s not bad, don’t deserve to be last!

Many people don’t like Croatia enough maybe. I really don’t think it’s a last place, but if you ask me it’s a pretty forgettable song.

Yes, can’t understand why Croatia doesn’t have more support. I love the dramatic song and the pulsating rhythm.

Some interesting stats here:
– Israel was 105 points clear of everything else. That’s a landslide.
– Croatia was last. (Why?)
– UK was 20th. (Better than I thought).
– Estonia didn’t make the top 10, shockingly.
– Except for Bulgaria, no Eastern European entry made the top 10.
Anyone else with other notes?

– Moldova 14th
– Belgium 16th (I thought they have a friendship with France, maybe I’m wrong, or it doesn’t matter)
No other surprises for me.

People are claiming Israel might be the fanwank of the year, but Finland in second place from France totally screams “fanwank” to me. Just like “Verona” last year. Let’s hope I’m wrong, I don’t want Finland yo crash in the semi, even though is pretty possible they might.

Is the power of diaspora prominent in OGAE fan clubs? Because Armenia got pretty low, despite being one of the main foreign communities in France.

France OGAE gave Belgium 57 points in the final. But that was only enough for 16th. Tough year.

Shocked to see Bulgaria or Denmark doing much better than Belgium, Estonia or Germany. Austria getting a point was nice, although a bit far-fetched.

It is really such a strong year!

Croatia came last by the same motive Austria came last in last years final televote: Not bad, but always having 10 songs standing out more. (If the vote is similar to Eurofison)

I can believe that Croatia is last. It’s pretty far down on my list and even people who put it quite high on their lists are still indifferent about it. Not many people will have it in their top ten nor their bottom ten – the Ann Sophie situation. Points are going to be hard to come by for Croatia this year, I think.

The “Crazy” and “Black Smoke” comparison is actually very spot on! But I don’t think Franka would get nul points. Either in the Semi or in the Final.

Oh my, reading the comments is equally, if not more, entertaining than reading the article itself. DRAAAAAMAAAAA
In all seriousness, I’m really happy Denmark got points. After quite a few negative comments I didn’t expect it to be high in polls. Sad about Estonia though…

Really? Are there no straight people in OGAE fan clubs? That might explain why the Finnish LGBT-anthem did very well. Bceause honestly 10 points to Finland seems a bit far-fetched.

Marcelo – The Eurofandom (especially in Western European countries) is mainly gay, I thought this was common knowledge.

Yes, but I really don’t think there are no straight ESC fans. Like ESC is not a gay event only. But if there are only gay people in OGAE clubs we might be headed for Finland to the this year’s fanwank.

Last time I checked about 10% of ESC audience were straight.

I really don’t think Lithuania is getting enough love. It’s a beautifully simple song with heartfelt lyrics; nearly makes me cry every time I hear it still.
