In March she performed as the interval act in Lithuania’s Eurovision selection, treating the audience to an English-Lithuanian mash-up of “Monsters”.
And on Wednesday Saara Aalto flaunted her linguistic skills once more with an acoustic cover of the song — in 34 different languages.
Wearing a stylish red-and-black leather bomber jacket and sitting at a piano, the Finnish polyglot glides through the national languages of every country competing at Eurovision 2018.
The video comes with captions that let you know which tongue she’s switched to and when. But to help you out we’ve listed them in order here.
The languages are: English, Swedish, Portuguese, Greek, Estonian, Dutch, Italian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Lithuanian, Icelandic, Norwegian, French, Spanish, Armenian, Hungarian, Danish, Polish, Slovenian, Macedonian, Albanian, Czech, Ukrainian, Latvian, Croatian-Serbian-Montenegrin, Bulgarian, German, Russian, Romanian, Hebrew and Finnish.
Interestingly, there aren’t any notes on the piano and there isn’t a teleprompter in sight…suggesting Saara committed these difficult lyrics to memory.
The video, which racked up more than 100,000 views in a few hours, is Saara’s gift to her fans all over the continent.
Announcing the video on Twitter, she said: “Surprise! Here is my acoustic live version of Monsters in 34 languages (all the Eurovision languages)! Thank you everyone for being on this journey with me, this is my gift to you all around the world.”
We accept! And so do her many fans. A Twitter user named Kaisa-Leena Ahlroth wrote: “I do not remember when I last time cried listening to a #eurovision song. Today I did. Absolutely great! #Eurovision2018”

In September 2016, she slayed the Internet when she sang “Let It Go” in 15 different languages…from Malaysian to Turkish!

Actually, she didn’t. Maltese has never been heard in the competition (Malta always has a song in English). And as English is Malta’s official language alongside with Maltese, she did enough.
Malta’s entries in 1971 and 1972 were in Maltese. They both placed last but still.

If she managed to sing in macedonian then she can also make a performance in parisian, alsatian, east londonese, bohemian, valettan, alpean, pacific oceanic, himalayian, illyrian, burgundese, mediterranean, oregonean, texan, massachuchetean, lake ohridean, lake prespean, western danubean, tour eiffelean and thracean. These are all valid names for languages certainly.

Actually he’s Bulgarian. Greek and Macedonian language have nothing in common. Bulgarian and Macedonian almost identical — like Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin are almost identical.

She did very well in Danish! Not Perfect, of course, but I understood was she was saying right away, and Danish is a hard language to pronounce!

I am here to remind everyone of the following: We are not here to judge the national performances, or if we are, we can skip the Eurovision final, right. No other country has revealed their final staging either. What I saw in Israel, was that everyone were standing in the middle of the stage, doing nothing but singing. You may have hated Finland`s national performance, but 1. it is none of your business and 2. at least there was major effort there.
I couldn’t agree more. The meaning with a national final is to select an entry for each country. The final target is the grand final of the ESC. There is – depending of a country – 2 to 4 months left to polish and make up the final performance. The song can be revamped (until a certain date), the staging will be improved and all the details will be put together, so we haven’t seen the result of all this work yet. The live performances have not shown a stronger performance so far, I am afraid. There is hardly any real singing in Israel song, Belgium flopped totally. The London Eurovision- party shows very strong vocals for Finland unlike for many other countries. Finland national show had very bad sound recording and the staging flopped. So? We are not here to judge the national performances, or if we are, send me the one from israel. No other country has revealed their final staging either. I call this harassment.

Is there a big difference between Belarussian and Russian languages? She sang a line in Serbian/Croatian/Montenegrin – languages that can be understood in these three countries.
Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian languages are from the same, east-slavic language group. Belarusian is a bit closer to Russian than Ukrainian, but these three languages are quite different, but people from these countries can quite understand each other. And Belarisian is not so used in Belarus, almost everybody in Belarus prefer speaking Russian. And almost all people from Ukraine, I think, know Russian
I think she just opted for the most spoken language of each country – in Belarus, most people speak Russian.
I understand her italian and spanish. The portuguese was a bit harder.
Either way this was a cool performance and thumbs up for her putting herself out there singing in so many languages. Her vocals were great. I hope she can deliver such a performance at Lisbon.

I am impressed with her performance, I hope she will sing multi-languages in Lisboa. I am sure she can do it, although she may limit to 25 languages to fit in 3 minutes.

She has already progressed a great deal from the NF performance. A week later at the Lithuanian national final she showed what a great vocalist she is and until the Eurovision week the performance and staging will be polished. I am confident she will slay in Lisbon.

Strange that, I’m a Russian and I have understood rather well what was sung in other Slavic languages, that is all except Russian.
I think the acoustic version is so much better than the original one. Especially her voice get’s a lot more expressive when she’s not singing at the top of her lungs from the start to finish. Suddenly the song is now a lot more dynamic and enjoyable.

Eurovision languages – does it mean this year’s edition? I can’t remember song from the past being sung in Gaelic or Maltese… correct me if I am wrong.
If I’m not mistaken, I think Ireland sang in Gaelic in 1972. I don’t think Malta sang using their official language, though could be wrong and open to correction!!! My take on it was that it was the official languages of all competing countries .
Anyway, either way (my original comment was merely an observation rather than a critique just in case my choice of words/bad English failed to make it clear), I think she did brilliantly!!
Azeri has never been sung in Eurovision but it was included. Our 1972 entry, “Ceol an Ghrá” and Malta’s first two entries were both sung in our national languages.
And it’s, Irish btw. Calling it Gaelic is sort of like calling Russian Slavic. It’s not offensive or anything, but it’s a bit annoying, because no one says that here.
Malta’s second language is English so she didn’t forget Malta.

I think is is pathetic how Israel has received such appreciation without any careful consideration. Where are the credits of that singer, very few found in Wikipedia. But everyone seems to have a bad word about Finland. What do you have against us? Monsters
That was a great idea and the execution couldn’t be better. It also confirms my feelings that Saara is many leagues ahead her own song.
This version would make such an impact and would deliver the message to the people so purely. I love fastfood music but I feel like some solid songs are ruined by unnecessary uptempo beats.

I know, there are some pretty delusional people here. Most of them trolls. Actually there might be only 1 or 2 under different usernames, but I’m not sure. Don’t waste your time trying to deal with them or to make sense of what they’re writing. As you said singers can be incredible, without cancelling each-others values and talents. Saara is an amazing performer, just like Eugent, even though the latter is my favorite one this year.
