From Valletta to London, y’all! Christabelle Borg — Malta’s Eurovision 2018 star — has performed an acoustic version of her entry “Taboo” at the Houses of Parliament in London.
Christabelle, an ambassador for mental health issues back at home, caught the attention of anti-poverty organisation Global Citizen. They recognised her inspiring work changing attitudes toward mental health issues and invited her to London to perform in front of Commonwealth Ministers — including Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop and her UK equivalent Boris Johnson.
The song, which talks about breaking down the barriers and stigma surrounding mental health struggles, is a powerful and empowering tune. It resonates with the many people who want to talk about their situation but feel too nervous to do so.
It’s also germane to the many public conversations taking place in the UK among influencers such as Prince Harry and Prince William, singer James Arthur and model-cum-actress Cara Delevigne. They’ve all come forward recently to talk about their own struggles with depression and anxiety.
The event — officially called “Girls in Emergencies: How the UK and the Commonwealth are empowering girls in times of crisis” — brought together UK politicians, influencers, and decision-makers to highlight the urgent needs of girls in times of conflict. The meeting is the first Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting since it was held in Malta in 2015.

In January, Christabelle finally won the chance to represent Malta at Eurovision after four attempts in the MESC National Final. With a total of 133 points, she was 35 points clear of her nearest rival, marking a clear win.
She’ll compete in the second semi-final on May 10th. Can she bring Malta back to the final this year? Let us know in the comments below!
