Following another disappointing result in Kiev, Germany rebooted their national selection format with an all-new process. Following his victory at “Unser Lied für Lissabon”, Michael Schulte will sing “You Let Me Walk Alone” in Lisbon.
Germany is sending their first male solo act since 2012, when Roman Lob reached 8th with “Standing Still” in Azerbaijan. Unlike the previous German entries, “You Let Me Walk Alone” tells a very personal story about the singer’s loss of his father.
The song is written by Thomas Stengaard, Nisse Ingwersen, Nina Müller as well as Michael himself.
Lyrically, the song deals with the death of his father by recalling similarities and does so in a slowed-down way. He’s singing that he misses his father the most in situtations that don’t work out as planned: “I thought you’d lead me, when life‘s misleading / That’s when I miss you most”
The song is tender and soft, allowing Michael’s voice and emotion to shine through.
