From Lordi to Sunstroke Project, groups have the power to become fan favourites — and to climb that Eurovision scoreboard. Next month, six groups will take to the Lisbon stage.
This year’s groups (and common frameworks) hail from Bulgaria, Georgia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Serbia. From rock to ethnic ballads to jazz to dark pop, they’ve got a lot a lot of bases covered. But will the 2018 trophy belong to a group? Who decides? You decide!
Below you can review each of the six groups. Then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many acts as you like, but you can only vote once. So make it count. We’ll close the poll just before rehearsals start in Lisbon.
GROUPS AT EUROVISION 2018
BULGARIA: EQUINOX – “BONES”
After finishing in the top five for two years running, Bulgaria is hungry for a win. The country has put together five singers to create the common framework Equinox. They will sing “Bones”.
GEORGIA: IRIAO – “FOR YOU”
For the first time ever, Georgia’s Public Broadcaster (GPB) are offering us a Georgian-language song. The members of Iriao join in throughout the song, adding complex harmonies and counter-melodies. This is a true combination of jazz, classic, polyphony and different complimentary melodies.
HUNGARY: AWS – “VISZLAT NYAR”
Post-hardcore band AWS will represent Hungary with “Viszlát nyár”. The band gives us quality rock music and tonnes of energy. There’s no need for a Red Bull! It’s time to rock!
MOLDOVA: DOREDOS – “MY LUCKY DAY”
After last year’s top three finish with Sunstroke Project, Moldova bring the rhythm once more. DoReDos hope to shine bright with the catchy “My Lucky Day”.
ROMANIA: THE HUMANS – “GOODBYE”
They were the surprise victors of Romania’s national selection, beating out better known names like Feli and Jukebox. But The Humans have formed a strong fan base nonetheless, particularly in their home market.
“Goodbye” was inspired by the band members’ personal life experiences. The song is a manifest towards helping those who are fighting their demons alone, in the dark.
SERBIA: SANJA ILIC & BALKANIKA – “NOVA DECA”
Serbia will deliver traditional Balkan music with modern beats in Lisbon! It’s Sanja & Balkanika with “Nova deca”.
Georgia for the win!
I don’t agree 😛
Romania by far and not because I’m Romanian. I hate the Serbian song, it tries to be something different but the whole package seems to be a mess. I’m not a fan of their vocals either. Hungary, which seems to be more and more appreciated, has a weak vocalist in the lead, their live performance is nothing extraordinary. Georgia… I usually like the antagonists of up-tempo music, I like ballads, I like old music, but this is too old-fashioned even for me, it’s simply weak. Moldova, not bad, but nothing original and after last year, it looks exactly like a… Read more »
Stop making polls.
Poll: Should wiwibloggs stop making polls? 😛
You can do what you like of course. But in my opinion, there have been a few too many polls this year compared to previous years. The Geographical polls could have been more clustered – for example, what was the point of Portugal v. Spain? LOL.
When looking back at this season over the Summer, perhaps count the polls, and then look at the ones that seemed pointless (if you can notice any)? Thanks.
They can end on 69 😀
Yes… unlike all the other competing countries this year like San Marino, represented by a German and a Maltese women, Belarus by a Ukrainian, Cypress by a Greek, Poland by a Swede (Lukas)… Those damn Bulgarians sure have some nerve!
PS. Sorry but I’m too laze to list out all the times countries were represented by foreign nationals in past contests…
the “yes” was sarcastic “agreement” with your sentiment and not a response to the question of whether all the singers are Bulgarian… Just read your post again and realized someone might think that that is what I meant
They will not! They are new and they are good! All my 20 votes in the semis will go with them and I know I’m not alone with this!
They are still hired help and americans. I personally think that they should have find locally, Bulgaria is full of choir singers, opera singers, good singers.
I think it’s super pathetic that Bulgaria is using Americans, both of whom are basically the lead vocalists of the group. The delegation seems cocky and confident this year yet they had to use outside help. Hilarious.
Guess the chick likes to take American! Lol. There is no such thing as Bulgarian music there is Bulgarian noise.
Yeah, yeah, yeah you silly boy. Switzerland was represented by Celine Dion. But why another country to include foreigners?! You are so pathetic. 😀
It may seem odd, but my favourite group is Moldova! Hungary is close, because they brought sth different.
Of course a country can be represented only by it’s citizens – just ask swiss singer Celine Dion.
Ok, joking aside – many countries have been represented by people that weren’t their citizens, it’s nothing new.
Not a chance. AWS are controversial. They have a “love it or hate it” entry. Last one will probably be one of the songs most people find okay, but barely anyone has in top 5 choices of the semi. In case of semi 2, possibly Romania, Malta or even Latvia.
Shortest text for Serbia :)))) whoever is that person who wrote this text, that won’t stop them from going to final!
Btw, search up for DaOneFame on yt to find story :Estonia VS Russia at Eurovision 2018.. Interesting theories there..
Hugnary is overrated by some wiwibloggs eurovision fan. They will be finish with juries like Finland 2015, and they will stay in semi.
Im sorry PP. Hungary is definitely not overrated.Actually I think is underrated and it will make a huge surprise just watch.
Uhm… Hungary is everything but overrated. They’re never high in any polls (except for this one, but which other Options do you have here?) and most People say they hate the song. It’s fine if you don’t like the song, but you don’t have to justify it with ”overrated”, honestly… Euro fans are using this word way too often.
AWS is the best. Equinox sound like a bunch of amateur guys in a talent show singing together
My interest is in the team behind them. Seems like they just picked talented singers and is filling their performance with whatever. Fast Food music, indeed.
Hungary is my 1st place, Bulgaria my 4th.. So I voted for them. The only completely bad entry here is Romania… I like Georgia and Moldova, Serbia is okay.
I agree with this assesment. 1) Hungary, 2) Bulgaria, 3) Serbia / Moldova / Georgia, 6) Romania
Hate it forever. It will win
EQUINOX for SURE is the best in this bunch.
AWS is solid.
The others in this poll are rather messy.
3. MOLDOVA
4. GEORGIA
5. SERBIA
6. ROMANIA
Moldova is legit too! Philipp Kirkorov! Remember the Gold Status of that name! He doesn’t fail!
The Humans will win. You’ll see!! Dark Horse winner.
Both Moldova and Romania will qualify, even if for diferrend reasons.
stop overrating average bulgaria
omg wig. the messiah has spoken
ummm it’s not average, it’s a very avant garde song that only people with 120+ IQ can understand :DD and the lyrics are extremely deep. ”I love beyond the bones” is really powerful… When will your manufactured faves? Equinox is an amazing common framework that doesn’t feel forced at all.
said no when ever.
Considering your poorly punctuated and grammatically incorrectly sentence, I highly doubt the “120+ IQ” includes you.
Ariana can’t relate to music that doesn’t chart.
No one said it was forced, omg Equal blocks stan SHOOK
So they love beyond having boners? Big deal – they cannot shoot lol.
Above avarage, thank you very much!
Sanja Ilic & Balkanika are actual talent. we stan!
nicki Minaj who? kkkaty Perry ran. avicii found dead.
stream no tears left to cry!
Iriao – the group with the most underrated song of esc 2018
I have just voted for thrm
The song isn’t that bad. Why hate Georgia’s entry?
Totally agree, then again we are from the same region,,n 😉
Women is giant white condom song? Hahaha
I quite like all these entries except for Moldova, which just a cheesy throwback to when Eurovision relied too much on gimmicks instead of music.
I don’t think any of these songs will win but I expect Hungary to do a lot better than the bookmakers odds would suggest.
…Is Eye Cue not a group?
Are they only a duo or something?
They’re a duo group. lol
Hungary. Any day of the week. Love love love their song!
Ten seconds listening to this noise and I am done. I rather be in a tin factory. How anyone can even like this is beyond me. I have tried with an open mind but I really can’t.
Well said Frysk. Obviously some people just love noise and trash. They are perfect of a gang bang with me taking though.
Go AWS!
I love Iriao, the are such a welcome change of pace. I can imagine them doing a midnight concert at Vake Park.
Equinoz, in my top 5.
Good Luck from Sweden
EQUINOX for the win ;p
Off topic: France just took over Estonia and now 5th favourite to win according to odds.
This is not eurovision song contest any more this is political song contest. :-/
Maybe it is because Madame Monsieur wrote song, that much better then estonian opera( modern, interesting arrangement, strong message, chip with Mercy, mercy at the end, I have many examples)??? Tired of the opera on Eurovision. Bookmakers, I think, too.
France’s song has a message and is radio friendly and honestly can appeal to the average person’s ears regardless of their preferred genre
Opera on the other hand, is something people either love or hate and it’s way too divisive. That’s why you see France rising in the odds and Estonia falling. Estonia has a lower chance of realistically winning because too many people hate opera.
It’s not that hard to understand.
They are both bad, , stop fighting!
lol YOU TELL EM!
They are both trash – perfect for a dump like Portugal.
I don’t agree at all. Yes, France is radio friendly, it is pleasant for everybody, but how many people will be convinced to vote it? Cause you need to be on top between the others to be voted, not to be pleasant for everybody cause that doesn’t mean they will prefer you in front of others. So the opera lovers could mean way much more than people that will vote for France. Not to mention that Estonia will appeal not only to opera lovers, it is something original and many will appreciate her voice, opera lovers or not. No discussion,… Read more »
