your song
Spain, Alfred, 1

Ever wondered why so many Spaniards get super emotional upon hearing “Tu canción”? Well, wonder no more. Alfred and Amaia have a little gift for you: an English version of their Eurovision 2018 entry, which they’ve just performed for the first time. And yes, it’s called “Your Song”. Elton John who?

“Feels like I’m dancing in bright shining stars”, they sing, while standing in front of a starry background inside an RTVE studio. Alfred plays the guitar, Amaia the piano. These two are serving pure magic again, but in English.

Amaia & Alfred “Your Song” (“Tu canción” English-language version)

The young lovebirds received a warm farewell on Thursday night as the Spanish broadcaster organised a little concert. They were joined by a selection of their favourite artists.

Some of the biggest names from Spain’s indie and alternative scene joined Amaia and Alfred — Zahara, Love of Lesbian, Belize, Judit Neddermann… and last year’s entrant Manel Navarro.

Manel, who’s now sporting a dapper new haircut, dueted with Alfred on his Eurovision Gala solo entry “Que nos sigan las luces”.

Meanwhile, Amaia revisited one of her most mythical Operación Triunfo performances. Back in Gala 4, at the beginning of the contest, she sang “Con las ganas” with the eventual runner-up Aitana.

Tonight, she sung it once more, but this time with the original singer Zahara.

One of the most heart-warming moments of the concert came when the duo performed with Judit Neddermann. She’s well known throughout Catalonia, but remains relatively unheard of in the rest of Spain.

Alfred claims that he began to fall in love with Amaia when he learnt that the Pamplona raised songstress could sing Neddermann’s “Mireia”.

Tonight, the trio delivered an extra special rendition of the number.

Do you like Amaia and Alfred’s “Your Song”? Do you prefer it to the Spanish version? How do you feel about the lyrics? Should they sing a bit in English in Lisbon? Let us know in the comments.

While the English version is good, the Spanish version is better. Way better, and I think they’d feel more comfortable singing in their native language.. surely.
spanish all the way por favor!!!

As a spanish Eurofan I already feel satisfied this year. While other years I had the feeling that everything was at stake with the final performance to finally get ashamed by a poor result (case of three last years) Amaia & Alfred brought so much since september it made my Eurovision inner experience fullfiled. Winning seems out of discussion for now. When I see this year’s roster with bonafide winners (Alexander and Waylon) something that hasn’t happened in a while, I’m sure both will do better than last time because they now how to succeed at Eurovision. They’ll burn the… Read more »

This song is very special on its own, ignoring the performers. For that reason, it’s a potential winner.

I’d love to see this cause an upset and win, and I don’t think it’s outside the realms of possibility 🙂

The lyrics and composition of this masterpiece together with both of their vocals sound so magical. The English version is just as good as the Spanish version in my opinion. It sounds authentic and believable to me. I am sold!

Beautiful!! This is my favourite entry this year. It’s nice to hear a version where I can understand the lyrics. I’m glad they’re doing the Spanish version though, as they’re more comfortable with that one.

I prefer the Spanish version but this is amazing. I watched the official ESC video in English with images of both singers. I must confess I almost melt into tears. This song is becoming an anthem in weddings in Spain for the first dance. Would be nice to see that a ESC song becomes an anthem of love all over Europe. I wish them a lot of luck in ESC and hope they manage to make many hearts all over Europe melt from love and sweetness (I know it sounds cheese but I don’t give a damn). They deserve top… Read more »

As usual people say sing in your native tongue.. When it comes to Eurovision 9 out of 10 times these songs end up in the bottom if the scoreboard.

This shouldn’t be the case. They really deserve a good spot.

I can’t believe that there are people holding it against these two and the song because it’s “fake” or too cheesy. I think that all around this entry is pure magic and love Fantasy <3 probably it helps that I have felt real love and identify with what they are singing and feeling

I simply think this is not a special song
Their vocals are fine, the song is cute but nothing more

It actually sounds really good in English and they would probably do well with this version in Lisbon, even though I know they plan to sing it in Spanish only

so you’re just going to remove the video of benjamin ingrosso reacting to all the entries after a backlash and act like it never happened?

As far as I can tell, only the reaction to FYR Macedonia survives – that one makes it look as if Benjamin is not himself. I don’t know what’s going on here. I didn’t see the original video. But someone somewhere quite clearly made a mistake.

English version was announced a long time ago. Spanish version sounds better and more romantic. Simple lyrics don’t need translation.

Other versions will be done after Eurovision and I’ve read some couples are already using it as a dedicatory song for their pair. Probably the only ’18 song that will be useful for humans afterwards. This has potential to become a modern wedding anthem a la Mendelssohn/Wagner wedding march) or entry dance song (in its instrumental version) I’m calling it here.

The English version sounds beautiful, but I prefer Spanish version. I think there are things lost in translation. But well, I’m Spanish and I know all the story of the artists and their song, so I can’t be objective, haha. I think English speakers could enjoy a lot of this version though. I must say the whole acoustic concert was amazing. I specially enjoyed Mel Semé & Alfred’s performance ‘El tiempo’. I love Alfred playing trombone. It’s not the kind of song for Eurovision, I know, but this song made me travel so far away. Here you have the link… Read more »

For me the magic disappears in the English version. They should stick to Spanish.

Learn Spanish yourself. Their accent in English is more than fine. And we do study English, and other languages as well too, in fact Alfred has two mother tongues, Spanish and Catalan. They do sing fine, stop the hate. They are gonna do it in Spanish anyway in Eurovision.
