She’s representing Greece with a strong traditional sound. And during her first rehearsal Yianna Terzi kept the tradition flowing in a white gown that made her look like an ancient Muse or goddess. Set against a solid blue backdrop, she seemed to embody the Greek flag in all its beauty.

It’s obvious that Yianna has more tricks up her sleeve. There are a series of shots where the camera pans out and we see Yianna looking up surrounded by solid blue. Above her we anticipate augmented reality effects, fire or smoke. But unfortunately the televisions in the press centre cut out during her third run-through — the take where acts pull out all the visuals. Instead of seeing Yianna’s magic, we were shown the press conference of FYR Macedonia instead.

Yianna also had a blue palm which she frequently held up for dramatic effect. And her voice was on point — she’s a seasoned performer and it really shows.

This is a good staging for the song. I like the colour palette. It’s just a snippet but I have good feelings about it.
The song is not a favourite for me but I wouldn’t be upset if she qualifies.

My girl was vocally great! No disappointment there. Love the colors, love the white dress and her whole styling, she looks gorgeous! I didn’t quite get the blue hand, it’s unnecessary. As for the staging, I was also underwhelmed. However, they said at the “Meet and Greet” that during the bridge she’s kind of directing the lights with her hands. They can fix things and that’s why there are rehearsals. So, I’m confident for Yianna. She’ll be better next time!

i am disappointed with this staging, they just let her there alone and nothing happens, they wasted the potential of the song

I was waiting all day long so i could read the comments especially for the Greek and Cypriot entry, now i can safely say that there is one or more trolls that is reaaally afraid and jealous of these two at least. The insults are hilarious but should be unnacceptable in this comment section. But hey wiwibloggers, dont delete them, shows the fear of the trolls which i also find entertaining 🙂

The studio version is epic, but it was clear she wasn’t going to be able to deliver it live. She doesn’t sound bad at all, but in the rehearsal clip I can feel she’s struggling. I don’t wan’t to imagine the final high notes. The staging looks promising and brings the epicness Yianna can’t bring in the live performance. Anyway, I think Greece will qualify if she doesn’t mess it up. I really hope they improve it all, because I like it!

Reply to  Héctor

If you’re waiting for the song live to be exactly like the studio, you’re probably gonna be disappointed. The studio version, be it vocals or backing vocals, was sung entirely by Yianna Terzi. The song you’re gonna see on stage has four different voices for backing vocals, 3 of them female and 1 male, so it’s bound to be different. We’ll see how it’ll go, just thought I’d warn you lest you be disappointed on that day.

Héctor
Héctor

Reply to  onar

Yeah, I already knew she wasn’t going to sound like the studio version. But these kind of songs relay too much in postproduction and then this happens. I’m not sure if Yianna’s was nervous or her vocals symply aren’t enought, but I haven’t read good critics from other journalists in the press center… Anyway, as I said, I hope the performance will be cool enought to qualify on May 8th.

I think she said she arrived at Lisbon around midnight and she didn’t really get any rest. It’s the first rehearsal, a lot of things can imporove til the semi final. I’ve heard that the vocals were good except from the high note, what I think hasn’t impressed much is the staging. We’ll see how it looks in the semi final.

I’m surprised there’s no interpretative dancer on this one. Based on what the guys said on the review, maybe they preferred to use visual effects to replace the part that man played on the music video. But we still don’t know what they got, so let’s wait and see. What we can say so far is that it looks very classy and extra greek (which is great).

Umm ….. the Greek entry was boring, and that’s a problem?

Last year Portugal was the dullest entry of the night, yet it won.

Although, admittedly, Yianna really should have used a male dancer. Would have given the entry a little more punch.

This is so not true. I’m Greek and I honestly liked only a handful of our performances from 2001 til now. Us Greeks are usually very judgemental against our songs in the competition and even if “ALL Greeks LOVE the GREEK entry and thinks it will WIN” what is your problem anyway, it’s our song and we wanna support it. I don’t understand why you keep bashing us Greeks, istead of talking about the song. We don’t compete, Yianna does. Instead of focusing on us, go show some support on your song instead.

What you don’t seem to understand is that the majority of Greeks don’t behave like that. We judge songs as well. There are of course some crazy fans that are very vocal and support their favourite singers like crazy, Demy for example you couldn’t say anything about her else her crazy fans would come for blood. I remember that in 2014 with Freaky Fortune, before the national final all Athens was filled with Rise Up graffitis that was done by their supporters. It’s just the minority that makes us all look bad. Most of us think that our songs suck… Read more »
