She’s representing Greece with a strong traditional sound. And during her first rehearsal Yianna Terzi kept the tradition flowing in a white gown that made her look like an ancient Muse or goddess. Set against a solid blue backdrop, she seemed to embody the Greek flag in all its beauty.
It’s obvious that Yianna has more tricks up her sleeve. There are a series of shots where the camera pans out and we see Yianna looking up surrounded by solid blue. Above her we anticipate augmented reality effects, fire or smoke. But unfortunately the televisions in the press centre cut out during her third run-through — the take where acts pull out all the visuals. Instead of seeing Yianna’s magic, we were shown the press conference of FYR Macedonia instead.
Yianna also had a blue palm which she frequently held up for dramatic effect. And her voice was on point — she’s a seasoned performer and it really shows.

between 8th and 12th place…
This is a good staging for the song. I like the colour palette. It’s just a snippet but I have good feelings about it.
The song is not a favourite for me but I wouldn’t be upset if she qualifies.
My girl was vocally great! No disappointment there. Love the colors, love the white dress and her whole styling, she looks gorgeous! I didn’t quite get the blue hand, it’s unnecessary. As for the staging, I was also underwhelmed. However, they said at the “Meet and Greet” that during the bridge she’s kind of directing the lights with her hands. They can fix things and that’s why there are rehearsals. So, I’m confident for Yianna. She’ll be better next time!
i am disappointed with this staging, they just let her there alone and nothing happens, they wasted the potential of the song
It has been confirmed that there’s gonna be augmented reality this year, wait for the full result on tv guys.
Ruth Lorenzo and Pastora Soler vibes. I hope you have better luck than them.
I’m not into this song, but it’s a hell of a improvement from last year.
I was waiting all day long so i could read the comments especially for the Greek and Cypriot entry, now i can safely say that there is one or more trolls that is reaaally afraid and jealous of these two at least. The insults are hilarious but should be unnacceptable in this comment section. But hey wiwibloggers, dont delete them, shows the fear of the trolls which i also find entertaining 🙂
I gotta say the truth. Before I didn’t like the song at all. Now after the rehearsal I completely changed my mind. I liked the dress, the voice is good. I prefer something like this. Good luck Hellas. 🙂
I can’t believe this…
If this is the genuine and legendary ‘Jamala’ I am speechless as well!
No, it’s just nickname . 🙂
Ajajajajaja que fuerte
WOW EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
Welp, apparently the greek delegation didnt say anything, just a rumor some people heard of. Got any source that confirms this, @William Lee Adams?
Well , u should watch the wiwibloggs interview with yianna. She said that there will be dry-ice smoke and pyros-explosion after the bridge of song but havent been projected at this rehearsal!
This year I prefer Cypros more 🙂
Good for you, go show Eleni some love then. I don’t know what you’re expecting to get with this comment in an article about the GREEK entry, but if you think you’re gonna start something here, think again. We all love Cyprus and wanna see them qualify, so go on, go to an article about Cyprus and give some love. No point in being here.
isnt it just the most pathetic thing in life to have nothing else to do with it rather than creating a thousand fake profiles in order just to be mean?miserable life indeed!
@kendrick,kenddr,annx HEY LOOSER they are talking about you
Well, everyone that talks ‘negative’ things about greece gets downvoted, so you’re the real LOSERS, not LOOSERS. If you cant accept different opinions thats your problem.
I think she’s got a trick up her gorgeous draped sleeve. Beautiful anyway and a sure qualifier.
The studio version is epic, but it was clear she wasn’t going to be able to deliver it live. She doesn’t sound bad at all, but in the rehearsal clip I can feel she’s struggling. I don’t wan’t to imagine the final high notes. The staging looks promising and brings the epicness Yianna can’t bring in the live performance. Anyway, I think Greece will qualify if she doesn’t mess it up. I really hope they improve it all, because I like it!
If you’re waiting for the song live to be exactly like the studio, you’re probably gonna be disappointed. The studio version, be it vocals or backing vocals, was sung entirely by Yianna Terzi. The song you’re gonna see on stage has four different voices for backing vocals, 3 of them female and 1 male, so it’s bound to be different. We’ll see how it’ll go, just thought I’d warn you lest you be disappointed on that day.
Yeah, I already knew she wasn’t going to sound like the studio version. But these kind of songs relay too much in postproduction and then this happens. I’m not sure if Yianna’s was nervous or her vocals symply aren’t enought, but I haven’t read good critics from other journalists in the press center… Anyway, as I said, I hope the performance will be cool enought to qualify on May 8th.
I think she said she arrived at Lisbon around midnight and she didn’t really get any rest. It’s the first rehearsal, a lot of things can imporove til the semi final. I’ve heard that the vocals were good except from the high note, what I think hasn’t impressed much is the staging. We’ll see how it looks in the semi final.
I’ve watched the live broadcast of those wiwi girls, and believe me, other than the last high note, she sounds almost like studio version. They even mentioned she sounds great.
Omg. Yianna Terzi was born on 7 May 1980. She is going to turn 38 soon! She is definitely too old to do this and wear that dress. I thought she was 48 but 38…
Now you must feel really smart for writing that comment. Jeez some people are seriously in need of brain cells transplant.
A CLASSY greek fan. Make sure yall give your votes to someone else.
Seriously wiwiblogs please ban some trols. They comment just to be provocative. We are here to discuss music and Eurovision and some of us keep bumping on these irrelevant hateful comments. I like some sarcasm and humour but most of these comments are just trash.
I’m surprised there’s no interpretative dancer on this one. Based on what the guys said on the review, maybe they preferred to use visual effects to replace the part that man played on the music video. But we still don’t know what they got, so let’s wait and see. What we can say so far is that it looks very classy and extra greek (which is great).
Even if this entry was “hidden” from people (no live performances till today) I was so sure this would become a power force come rehearsals time because is pure quality music and emotion. It’s all what greek culture represents.
Venga Grecia, tu puedes ganar.
I love this song. ESC need this kind of music. Not my nummer one but it’s in my top! This is what I love about ESC. I would never listen to this kind of music if it wasn’t for ESC. It’s somthing whith this song that make me feel so much emotions althoghI don’t understand a word.
Good luck from sweden!
NO FINAL TBH. Who chose the dress?? even israel is better
Wind machine, white dress, theatrical gestures….WHAT A CLICHE
Umm ….. the Greek entry was boring, and that’s a problem?
Last year Portugal was the dullest entry of the night, yet it won.
Although, admittedly, Yianna really should have used a male dancer. Would have given the entry a little more punch.
Amar pelos dois clearly made the public feel something, it wasn’t just boring.
I‘m with you on that one. It was Salvador‘s Charisma that made him actually win.
It was so strong until now, now it’s just average.
That is because Yianna is an old bi*ch. It was always going to be mediocre. It’s like grandma trying to sing and dance.
you are pathetic, go back to your cave troll
Drama. I love it! Hopefully something goes seriously wrong.
GUYS it has been reported that the greek delegation asked to cut the third run of the rehearsal on the press center because they had a surprise that didnt want to be seen. BOOM
robyn and other wiwiblog members disagree…
are they part of the greek delegation? NO
AND WHERE did the greek delegation said that? got any source?
Well, i guess you’re one of those:
‘guys, i heard this and that so it must be true’. Thanks.
I guess you are a whale sitting on a desk and having no life 😉
Ummm that’s def not a source. But i guess that settles it and confirms it’s just a rumor. Farewell, hun.
I’ve heard that the Greek delegation asked for the 3rd rehearsal not to be broadcasted as they had something that they didn’t want to show just yet. I’m triggered now!
Keep the blue painted hand in mind… just saying! 🙂
What could they possibly want to hide?
They gonna do a Blue FF, just a blue (sorry black)joke, í have hear that to
Dunno, just said what I heard, and it could be rubbish. But her choreographer said in the press conference that Yianna will be controling the lights and it didn’t quite show in the rehearsals. Also there will be wind, smoke and maybe pyrotechnics. So there are definetely things going to happen that the press didn’t even see.
Hun, just was a sarcatic humour(black), for that ones that speak bad about the rehearsal for me Greece is the winner this year (for less onside in my hard)xxx
I didn’t even answer to you, it was Ern I was talking to. xxx
The song is not bad , and the rehearsal meh meh , can be possible Greece dont go to the final
Blue lights and a Greek goddess dress, exactly what I expected from their low-budget staging (having a low budget isn’t necessarily a bad thing btw).
The irony that greece’s 3rd rehearsal was interrupted by the country that supposedly ”stole” the name Macedonia from the greeks
What is this county?
Fantastic. Macedonia save the rest from their misery of this sh*t piece of trash.
OH MY GOD. I remember i read a comment like this in 2006. Its 2018 now. Are you never getting tired of this? I wish you were all banned. This topic is so exhausting….. 12 years of this….
My dear Rasmus you didn’t really understand what Saver wanted to say, in reality you say the same thing. He said: let’s hope that the Greek song will be altogether interrupted by other countries’press conferences so as to get rid of the sh…ty Greek song. So, rejoice my dear friend!
I feel im done talking about the Macedonia/Greece thing now. Im ignoring this from now and just talking about the songs :).
Shocker : ALL Greeks LOVE the GREEK entry and thinks it will WIN. Doesnt that happen EVERY year? Except in 2016.
Calm down, Beyonce. Why so triggered?
haha not triggerd. Its so funny just because they always think they will win it. I dont think my country will win 15 times in a row. Thats the funny bit with Greece 🙂
Your comment is extremely stupid! That may happen with some very few fans.Actually the majority of Greek people dislike every single entry we send even our winner. They also are not interested about Eurovision at all.So do not speak about things that you don’t know.
Just for you information, if you don’t mind: the only Greek entries which I liked, were “Watch my dance” (despite the rap part, which I found awful) and “Alcohol is free” (which you either loved or hated). Even “My Number 1” was just meh to me. So there you go…
My dear Rasmus, I think that your obsession with stereotyping ALL Greeks becomes hilarious. Anyway…
Exactly my thought.
They’re always deluded but once again I don’t see them ending top ten.
This is so not true. I’m Greek and I honestly liked only a handful of our performances from 2001 til now. Us Greeks are usually very judgemental against our songs in the competition and even if “ALL Greeks LOVE the GREEK entry and thinks it will WIN” what is your problem anyway, it’s our song and we wanna support it. I don’t understand why you keep bashing us Greeks, istead of talking about the song. We don’t compete, Yianna does. Instead of focusing on us, go show some support on your song instead.
Amen! Couldn’t have expressed it any better.
I dont like fans that have their own country as their favourite for the last 10 years. Thats my point. Its just weird. To much nationalism. Thats what i want to say :). In scandinavia we judge songs. Not countrys
Really? Thats what Benjamin did on the video where he took of his headphones on the hungarian song and laughed?
As a swede i didnt like that ofc 🙂 He said sorry in a long message on instagram and he is only 20 so i forgive him :). He just didnt think.
What you don’t seem to understand is that the majority of Greeks don’t behave like that. We judge songs as well. There are of course some crazy fans that are very vocal and support their favourite singers like crazy, Demy for example you couldn’t say anything about her else her crazy fans would come for blood. I remember that in 2014 with Freaky Fortune, before the national final all Athens was filled with Rise Up graffitis that was done by their supporters. It’s just the minority that makes us all look bad. Most of us think that our songs suck… Read more »
So, maby you have to support your one countie for once, you never know, maby gonna do it better, you all against the Spanish and the Greeks that both loves and support they one countries and WHAT we are Mediterranean s we love compete we love fight and if that finish bad, ok tomorrow is a new sunny day with all my respect from Spain
Lol the greeks are always judgmental with their entries, you are so wring and obsessed..
I could be wrong ofc. But as a Eurovision fan since 2006 i have gotten the feeling that Greece,Turkey,Armenia,Azerbaijan are the 4 countries that always have their own country as their favourite. On youtube and here and talking to them. Thats just what i have observed in 12 years :).
How about Spain? I thought they are the most enamored with their entry every year! They thought Manel was for the win, I revisited polls from last year, it’s funny.
Spanish fans aren’t that deluded. They thought Pastora and Edurne would do better, but everyone else did… the only time in recent years they were completely wrong and delusional was with Barei, everyone was telling them she was going to end below 20th but they still thought she was a contendant for top ten lmao
Let’s not drag spanish fans into the discussion, don’t do to them what they do to us. It’s not nice pointing out fans if they want to support their song.
No, the Greeks hated Argo. They weren’t so happy with “One Last Breath” either.
I feel im in deep water here and i will focus on the songs instead 🙂 I didnt like our entry in 2007 with The Ark and not Robin Stjenberg in 2013 and actually not Måns in 2015. I wished Italy would win that year
LOL Sara slayed. Greece definitely bottom 5.
Lol sara is so desperate to go through that she made it a circus act. Bottom five in the semi. Kisses felicia
HONEY, the greek entry looks dated. GET OVER IT, it’ll be a miracle if you qualify. kisses felicia, you better pray hard.
Look at those downvotes, greek fans are so butthurt!
Jesus girl, this is not drag race, stop commenting with 10 different accounts, and do something with your miserable life
Lol! Have you listened Sara’s live voice, she is out of tune
Yeah, her last rehearsals showed her powerful vocals. get over it troll.
Oh oh oh… something just popped into my mind related to the blue painted hand: maybe the purpose is not symbolism but rather some sort of blue screen effect, we haven’t seen yet?
Nice idea but i don’t think that it will happen if the background is also blue
Generally, I agree with you. Maybe this effect will only be used in specific moments – for instance when she lookes up, just like in the youtube thumbnail above. Anyway, I am just dreaming. We’ll see next week. 🙂
She is definitely flat the entire time. She was slightly off key – not as bad as Alekseev at Belarus national final. She definitely hurt my ears.
Well, the song itself is three minutes of flatness so I didn’t expect her to make vocal acrobatics.
i like her styling and vocals . I wished this came with a podium or smth higher to give it more presence. But overall ok.
Song for Victory absolutely
I hope there will be indeed some hidden elements. Judging from the youtube snippet and the reactions during the live stream, this was rather a let down for me. Crossing my fingers that in the end they will deliver epicness. And by the way: I really hope, she improves on that high note at the end. If you followed the live stream, you will know what I mean.
Simple, authentic and unobtrusive. there are hidden elements that we will see on the next rehearsals.
Song for Victory .
I think there must be some visuals-holograms that we didnt see, but i think it has potential
