Moldova, Men of DoReDos, 2

Doors can conceal many things. And in Moldova’s Eurovision 2018 performance, they hide humour, creativity and so much more. Popping in and out of a large white panel with a series of doors, DoReDos deliver one of the most memorable and feel-good performances of the year.

The three singers each wear a different coloured outfit — a red crushed velvet suit, a blue crushed velvet suit and a yellow daisy dress — and twirl and jive before the doors. The three of them seem to be lost in their various worlds, occasionally colliding with hilarious consequences. In a statement sent to wiwibloggs, stage director Fokas Evaggelinos explained why.

“It is a story of misunderstandings between one woman and two men. The doors symbolize the personal space of our main characters and the windows their thoughts, as the clouds that we see in comics.”

“When misunderstandings cause laughter and then laughter leads to forgiveness.”

When the doors open, we get peeks of the trio’s extracurricular activities. There’s a great deal of passion and lovemaking — female arms pulling a man forward, and even a bum against a pelvis — and at times legs stretched outright as if someone is sleeping in the air. In the bridge of the song, body doubles in identical clothing emerge, revealing how they managed all the intricate illusions. They break it down with high-energy, traditional dance — it’s River Dance sped up and with a lot more attitude — and you can’t help but smile. Added bonus: When they stand in a line, the colours of their clothes seem to form the Moldovan flag.

Energetic, creative and incredibly memorable, this performance is deserving of a Top 10 finish. Given the mood on the evening, maybe it can go even higher.

Amazing that this song has been at the end of all tops on youtube. Now people started to like it.
It is ridiculous performance , maybe thats why. Sometimes we need some performance to laugh about in the final, so we dont fall asleep.

cute! the ‘white screen with jutting out foldy bits’ is a little too similar to sergey lazarev’s stage setup for me to fully appreciate this though… maybe it’s the Mark of Kirkorov

This song is by no means my favorite. It’s fun to listen to at first, but after a while it gets kind of annoying before you can finish it. However, the performance totally salvages that. This was fun and creative and they good at really good stage presence with a lot of charisma. So even though their song is in the bottom half to my top 43, I can still definitely say I have a lot of respect for them as performers. I enjoyed watching that little snippet even though the song is not to my taste.

This looks so much fun! I can’t wait to see the final product. It’s totally different from Cyprus, but somehow carries the same spirit: don’t try to be what you aren’t, embrace the nature of your song. It’s very noticeable that DoReDos is having a great time on the stage and this will bring the audience together. Moldavia is again serving creativity and putting a big smile on our faces.

has anybody seen they’re actually dressed up like the Moldovan flag? Blue, yellow and red, this is one of the performances I will root for in second semifinal!

This is my guilty pleasure. In some crazy sense, I hope they win… I know it’s unlikely but that would be fun if they do.

Moldova just went from #27 to #18 on the odds. Maybe they get the borderline qualifier. Also WTF with Norway at #2?! The rehearsal was good but the song is too childish and kitsch. It does not stand as a threat to winning.

I think they are 100% going to the final.

Yeah, it seems both Moldova and Norway are going to the final. But neither of them has an actual shot at winning or making Top 5.

“My Lucky Day” wasn’t the worst song of the bunch and now this creative performance, Moldova gets closer and closer to the qualification ticket. I’ll honestly have Moldova over Russia.

This is how you elevate a song. This song sounds dated and boring but they just make it work so good. I think the contest needs this type of fun stuff. They deserve to qualify after this.

This actually looks artistic and not tacky. I bet this is what they had in mind when they made a LEDless stage and wanted acts to be creative and authentic.

I love Cyprus and Eleni, but why they put big money into Sacha Jean Baptiste pocket (Bulgaria too) just to have some fires coming from Eleni’s a/s/s? Moldova (2017 and 2018) serves class and creativity for almost no money.

I love Moldova at ESC for doing their thing – they just don’t give a damn and simply have fun. The staging and the performance looks entertaining and that’s everything I need from this. I am not gonna vote for it but it doesn’t hurt me either.

Fun? For who? 😛 For me, it’s just another dated, cheap and painful to listen entry. Half of this SF is going to be like a kick in the butt… San Marino, Russia, Moldova, Norway, Montenegro, Georgia…

Fortunately, we have others like Hungary, Ukraine or even Sweden.

I’m so impressed by Moldova, year after year they are bold and believe in happy songs. I don’t know if they will win, but such attitude deserves to win, no matter the country.

Look at all these creative stagings.
Remember last year, so many acts using their own faces on the screens. It was pretty flat and boring.
Now, if you don’t have good vocals, if you don’t have stage presence, or if your song is catastrophically boring…there’s no place to hide, we will spot you.

You have to bet on:
Greece – very possible winner of weak 1st semi-final
Moldova – top 10 in final as it was last year
Germany – the best from big 5?
Very good value for Greece, Moldova and Germany!!!

A repeat of 2011 when Greece won the semi over the final winner, is actually not unlikely if you consider who’s voting.

Greece is far from winning the semi. Not even close.
Moldova won’t do as well this year because of lesser kitschy song.
And we haven’t seen any of the big 5 countries yest so we don’t know who is best
