At the start of San Marino’s Eurovision song, Jessika stands centre stage wearing a dark cape. But as the beat picks up and the lights begin to flash, her backing dancers remove it to show us who she is. And our girl is gorgeous and strong! Her vocals were on-point and she served major face, no doubt causing some Maltese fans to ask, “Why hasn’t she represented us yet?” Today she wore a glittering sweatsuit — this obviously isn’t her stage costume — which may have contributed to her obvious comfort.
Jenifer’s rap segment came off more polished and less aggressive than it has in the past. Wearing a pantsuit, she served secretarial realness as she marched with confidence down the outer ring of the stage. She also contributes more to the vocals and chorus, dropping some decent harmonies with Jessika. In one of the more bizarre moments of Eurovision thus far, a robot holds up a sign that says, “Will you marry me?” Jessika accepts. Another robot holds a a sign that says “I’m not your robot!” — an obvious play on Eurovision favourite Netta from Israel.
Points for concern? They need to charge the batteries on their ‘bots, as at one point one of them stopped moving. The backing dancers don’t really dance. They seem to flail their arms like they’re leading a Zumba class — or like they’ve drunk a little too much Jesus juice and are in their living rooms letting loose.
