He’s the hairy-armed hunk who head-bobbed his way to a top ten finish for Sweden at Eurovision 2018. But where some acts see Eurovision as the end of the race, Benjamin Ingrosso was just getting started.

In the few months since Lisbon he’s released a Gold-certified Swedish single, announced a 25-date tour of Sweden and clocked up 61 million streams on Spotify.

And now Benjamin has released a new single, “I Wouldn’t Know” as a follow up to his Eurovision smash “Dance You Off”.

In his own words the song is about, “the frustration you can feel when you look up to someone, and love someone but you don’t get anything back.”

And whatever did happen to Benjamin Ingrosso, it sounds ruul ruul deep y’all: “It’s about being hurt over and over again, but you still can’t let that person go.”

“I Wouldn’t Know” takes a similarly defiant tone to “Dance You Off”:

“I won’t waste no more time waiting for a sign, it’s already clear that you’ve got issues,” he tells his lover in the chorus.

He adds, “I would hold you while you’re crying, you wouldn’t dry a tear for me.”

We can feel the pain and anguish. The defiant tone may also be influenced by Eurofans who were quick to jump on Sweden’s poor televote result during the Grand Final.

In that context, the lyric “Ain’t no fire I won’t walk through” could be read as a clapback against the haters.

The song is synth heavy, but also features some 70s guitars, giving a finished result close to the sound of bands like 5 Seconds Of Summer. It also shares some musical similarities with “If I Were Sorry” by Frans and “I Don’t Give A” by Lisa Ajax. In the case of the former, the chorus has the same spoken-sung style, and as regards the latter, it borrows the same repeated fade to great effect.

Benjamin Ingrosso – “I Wouldn’t Know” Lyrics:

Why you so damn hard to talk to?
That’s not the way it’s supposed to be
Ain’t no fire I won’t walk through
Still you act so cold to me

I won’t waste no more time waiting for a sign it’s already clear
That you got issues, and I got questions, my one request before I leave
Tell me, what it’s like to have someone who’s always there for you
Tell me, what it’s like to love someone who gives a damn about you
Cause I Wouldn’t Know

Am I the only who’s trying?
To have a little sympathy
I would hold you while you’re crying
You wouldn’t dry a tear for me

I won’t waste no more time waiting for a sign it’s already clear
That you got issues, and I got questions, my one request before I leave
Tell me, what it’s like to have someone who’s always there for you
Tell me, what it’s like to love someone who gives a damn about you
Cause I Wouldn’t Know

It sounds like he spent his whole autotune budget for 2018 on this song.
