She’s had chart success all over Europe since her Eurovision win, and topped the Israeli music charts with her Eurovision-winning song “Toy”.

Now Netta Barzilai has collected a new title for her ever-longer resume — she’s hit number one on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

After steadily climbing the chart for nine weeks, “Toy” has finally reached the top spot.

This marks the first time that a song by an Israeli singer has topped one of the Billboard charts, which tracks the most popular music in the United States — the world’s biggest and most influential music market.

Speaking to Israeli media, Netta couldn’t contain her excitement.

“This is very exciting for me! I just got off the plane and this is the first message I got when I turned on my phone. I am grateful for everything happening around me. This is an amazing year and the experience I’m having is just nuts”.

“Toy” also remains number 31 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic charts.

Hitting number one on the dance charts is no mean feat. She overtook established artists including Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, Jonas Blue and Axwell & Ingrosso — the cousin of this year’s Swedish representative Benjamin Ingrosso.

The Dance Club Songs chart reflects what DJs are actually playing — a sure-fire sign that Netta is gaining important exposure that could help her in the other charts as people discover her music.

She also appeared in a ‘You Should Know’ segment for Billboard recently, where we learned about how she controls herself on stage, and her obsession with US rapper Nicki Minaj.

Topping the charts comes off the back of a hectic few months: she recently performed “Toy” on the US Today Show and has sung in, and climbed the charts in, Berlin, London, Madrid, Cologne, Stockholm, Zurich, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Frankfurt. Our girl does not bucking stop!

“Toy” marks the second Eurovision song to hit the US Billboard Dance charts in recent times, with San Marino’s 2016 act Serhat entering the charts back in June with “I Didn’t Know”, peaking at No.25. Eurovsion 1988 winner Céline Dion also reached No.1 in the chart, when her song “Ashes” hit the top spot in July.

Are you excited for Netta? Are you still listening to “Toy”? Let us know in the comments below!

Not just the US either! I tried to request it in a bar here in Montreal, Canada a few weeks ago and the response was “we will play this towards the end of the night because it is a big hit”.

Now I don’t even request it and hear it playing multiple times!

I live in America (DC and NY), no one really knows Netta (only jews or europeans know her pretty much) Most people that know make fun of her. smh

Not very surprising. US is huge. She hasn’t got the chance to perform on big stages or late night talk shows yet. But getting every bit of exposure with charts, interviews and small gigs will eventually lead to more radio plays and more performances.

Some weird comments on here !
Netta was voted Eurovision Winner in a show watched by many millions.
She is Beautiful, brilliant and DIFFERENT !
She’s not a clone like the others, she is original and unique. Looping is the new music and she is the best.

You know she’s doing something right when people are STILL upset over her success months after it happened.
Some of you folks are so bitter, making million excuses why she shouldn’t have won or why her current achievements are meaningless (they aren’t). It’s ok to not like her and the song but pretending everyone shares your opinion refusing to accept her victory is very childish. Move on with your life.

No signs of Netta in Europe’s charts though…..
Makes you think how valid and newsworthy us ‘success’ is.

No sign? it’s still charting in various european countries, which is impressive since europeans knew the song since early March and Americans only got to know it recently. Maintaining positions for that long is amazing.

And since when have the Billboard dance charts become a holy grail for music? Is she at least bubbling under the Billboard 100? Or is just a coincidence with the Pride happening now? How about trying to reach a much diverse and wider audience instead of sleeping inside a bubble? Winning Eurovision just meant two things: a) assuring fans that no further meaningful serious ballads or artistic songs would win again so thst uptempo party tunes could still fill in the contest with its worst clichés … and again to make fans happy b) create political noise and headaches for… Read more »

I agree with you regarding this chart’s lack of relevance, but how many times are you going to complain about the quality of the contest when you liked the winner in 2015, 2016, and 2017? “No serious ballads will ever win again” I’m sure you said that after Dana won and we’ve had really good ballads win. Now I can’t stand this song, but at least I’m not blinded by hate towards it that I can’t see the positive aspects of the contest.

Billboard has different methodologies for each of their charts to measure a song’s performance.

The charts on Billboard’s website usually update every Tuesday (and I think Wednesdays if a national holiday fell on a Monday that week). Go to Billboard’s website now, and “Toy” is now listed at #1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. https://www.billboard.com/charts/dance-club-play-songs

Since when do one-hit Eurovision wonders come up with follow ups that are meant to be taken seriously? 64 years of ESC are loud and clear except for ABBA. Céline already had a green light for her US career by 1988 so winning Esc was just … just … nothing special. It wouldn’t have prevented her success hadnt she won. So do you really expect another toy? You will be way too distracted by 2019 entries by the time anything comes up …

The mention of Serhat in the end was rather pointless. He obviously wasn’t nowhere near no. 1 at any point, and you forgot to mention which was his highest rank.

Chill, he’s not asking to kill or harm anybody in real life so calm down

(meanwhile, Iceland considers boycotting 2019 eurovision because of the safety issues due to the conflict over settlements from 2017; this will be another Russia VS Ukraine/Crimea, AGAIN)

Why can’t anyone see that they’re doing it only because they’re upset about their current ranking? (last place total).
